Oshkosh beats Platteville in OT.  Gerber drives the lane with 2 seconds left in OT, is hacked badly, foul not called, and misses the driving layup.  Oshkosh missed both ends of the double bonus to make this possible.  Both these teams stink.  69 points in OT FTW?   :-[
You must have been watching TVD with the officials again, because there wasn't any "hack" involved.....   ::)

My thoughts on the game last night:

Eau Claire looked extremely uncomfortable when trying to run the ball up the floor.  I remember one time where Rau was running with it, and it looked like he didnt even know how to run and dribble at the same time. Like he had never done it before. (Obviously he knows how, it just looked really, really awkward). When it became an uptempo game in the (mainly early and in the late second half) that played right into the hands of RF.

The Falcon defense was forcing EC into tough shots all night. Blugolds didnt get many clean looks on their way to 21-55 shooting. Brian Kimble is a stud on the defensive end.

Late in the second half the Blugolds went to a zone, and my color guy said it on the air "this basically tells me that Eau Claire has conceded the fact that they can NOT guard River Falls in a man-to-man half court set." Even when it became clear EC was going to need a couple steals and aggressive D to get back into the game they sat in the zone and allowed RF to burn nearly all 35 seconds every trip.

It looked early as if the Falcons were going to struggle with the Blugold height inside, but White stepped up after a few early miscues and played really well.  Jake Voeltz stepped up and took Fofana out of the game once he was asked to guard him. Mike Sullivan called Voeltz the most underrated player in the WIAC.

River Falls has not been 3-0 in conference since before Rick Bowen got here in '87, if ever!  When they won it in 2004 they started the season 0-2.

I believe they have a good shot to head into the semester break at 4-0 in the conference.  But we can't over look Oshkosh, this has trap game written all over it.

Bombs away at UWL's Mitchell Hall last night as the Eagles set conference records for threes made (19) and attempted (40) in a game...

Eagles win 89-69 over Stout. Tony Mane ties a career high 37 (7 of 12 on threes), with 29 points after the break... Quoted in the local paper as saying he had a lot of open looks... TV highlights of the game showed that was indeed the case, and no-doubters, too, from NBA range...

UWL lead at half 41-28; Blue Devils were able to cut it to 44-37. UWL, with the help of four threes, then bumped the lead back up to double digits at 59-41...

Hello D3 boards Ive been reading your posts for years and decided to start my own account cause I feel the stout basketball talk is down this year.

I went to last nights game and It just looked like the classic example of one team hitting there shots and the other just being ice cold.  Stouts matchup zone that they play tends to give up alot of outside shots and the Eagles were on hitting 19 3s a new conference play record.  Stout on the other hand couldnt buy a bucket.  I didnt think ethier team played defense very well.  In the 1st half I saw Hostetter with I bet 5 or 6 3point shots without a man within 3 feet of him.  Its not often where I see him that cold from the outside.  I would like to see Stout get the ball down low more often seeing as how I think they have one of the most athletic big men in the WIAC.  At the same time I feel Thomas needs to do a better job fighting for post postion he settles for 10 foot turn around jumpers to often.
Then there is Mane what can I say the kid can just score the basketball.  I like to consider him the Allen Iverson of the WIAC.  he will get you 20 or 25 on 8 of 23 shooting or in stouts case he will drop 37 on you going 11 of 24  and perfect from the free throw line. The most pure scorer Ive seen in awhile.
Look forward to getting in on all all the WIAC talk. :) PS If you need another fantasy player Id love to do it.

I would guess he is talking about your comment of Oshkosh being a "trap game."

Usually when the term "trap game" is used, it's because of having a "big game" before and after the aforementioned game.  Not sure I would put Eau Claire and Hamline in the "big game" category this season.  Now if they would have had Point last night and Whitewater next Wednesday than I would agree with you....  Regardless, I don't see River Falls losing to Oshkosh Saturday.

Cubs beat me to the punch.  I also think its a little early to call Oshkosh a trap game because they are 1-1 in conference.  Its not like they are 3-10 and River Falls has a date with Stevens Point to determine the conference champion next week.  The Packers playing Detroit this weekend before they play the Patriots is a trap game.  I think UWRF is getting ahead of himself in more ways than one!  :D :D ;) :)

I guess I just meant it more as a game they shouldnt lose, but being on the road and a long drive.  Coming off a good 10 days. We need to win the games we are suppose to win.  I suppose its not the EXACT meaning of a "trap game."

And yet, every game in this league is tough... and if you find yourself looking ahead on the schedule to the impending game coming up, you can easily get clipped.  There is a very high precedence of bottom tier teams putting a scare in the top tier teams and though we've said it so many times before, even the "worst" team can beat the "best" team on a given night.

The old addage is that you win on your home court and you "steal" games on the road.  By that logic, if you win all of your home games and half of your road games, then you're 12-4 in the league and often times, that's enough for the conference title.  50% on the road may be a little mediocre... so let's way win 5/8, which makes you 13-3, and that WAS good enough to win the conference 7 out of the last 10 years.

I would expect Vegas to pay .2 or less to 1 on that game on a bet on River Falls, and only because cubs would fund those small gains.
