As Schrimpf goes, the Titans go.
Would love to hear you explain this one.....

Monday night Schrimpf fails to reach double digits and the Titans win.....

Tuesday night Schrimpf leads them in scoring with 21 points and the Titans lose....

Am I missing something??

No column for double teamed denied shots that leave others open to score.

Going to the Stevens Point vs St. Thomas game tonight.
Prediction if the game stays in the high 50's low 60's Point wins any higher scoring then that I see St. Thomas winning.
That being said Go Point! :) I dont wanna see St. Thomas beat both River falls and Point.

The stats don't agree with this though, Stoutfan...  Per the Tommie gamenotes, Point is 32-2 when scoring 61 or more points but 1-4 when scoring 60 or less since March of 2009.  One of those losses came at the hands of the Tommies, in the NCAA tournament two years ago, 53-50.

Both teams average in the mid 70's and give up points in the low 60's.  Something's gotta give... and whichever team battens down the hatches defensively will win this one.  I expect a pretty close game with UST grabbing an early lead, Point pulling about even at the half, and then Point pulling away in the second half.  Point wins this one by about 9, I'll say 72-63, due to free throws at the end of a tight 5 point ballgame.

The stats held true tonight. I'd like to say I was wrong.  :)  That being said I really think the score was where Stevens Point needed it to have a chance to pull out the win.  They are a great defensive team but looking at them on the offensive end of the floor you can really see they miss there go to guy/closer in moses.  I still see Point as a top 10 team because of there defense but I see there lack of offensive fire power cutting there run short this year.

Isn't amazing that St. Thomas builds a $50 million facility and yet they don't have live stats or video.
.
maybe the point of the new facility is for people to actually show up in the gym for a game? Makes sense to me, but then again, I havent missed a UST home game since 1988  :)

AWESOME game tonight... talk about titantic defensive battles. Hat's off to UWSP-- they are an excellent team, talented, well-coached and disciplined. I'm lousy at names but #25 off the bench for Point is one hell of a player, as are the senior starters (42, 44 in particular). Foul trouble hurt Point, too. I'd love to see a rematch, ideally in Salem!

As for RF, they absolutely deserve to be ranked. 4-0 in the WIAC for the first time in a long long time. Coach Berkhof has got those guys to buy in to playing a lot of guys and a handful are capable of getting 20 on any night. That could be a major plus down the stretch.

He's doing a great job.  You could see last year that they were starting to put things together.  I think they'll be a tough team to beat in WIAC play.

That still doesn't explain scoring 21 points, while leading the team with 14 shot attempts, and losing....

Last night was easily the worst I've seen Point play, worse than RF this year.  Brezinski was easily the best player Point put on the floor last night.  Jerrell Harris hit a couple 3's but did nothing else expect dribble into triple teams.  Nick Krull had a solid game, was more assertive on offense.  Dan Tillema was god awful last night.  Other than that, everyone else was extremely average.  That's all I will say about Point, thinking about the game is just starting to irritate me.

Nicolia (spelling?) hit some big shots for St Thomas down the stretch.  Nobody really impressed me for their team though either.  It was a very sloppy game.  The first half included both teams just turning the ball over back and forth.

Greek Tragedy

Let's see.  Point has 18 turnovers, misses 10 of 22 free throws, Dan Tillema doesn't hit a shot, they shoot 20% from 3 and they have the game tied with 2 minutes to go against a Top 10 team on the road.  I guess it could've been worse and played the best game of their lives and come out on the short end of a 61-54 game.  I'm not too concerned yet!

Tough stretch after the Christmas break.  Fly to Vegas, play two games in two days, drive to Phoenix and play two games in two days.  Four games in four days with a long drive in there as well.

The facility at St Thomas is definitely top notch.  They have a scoreboard overhanging the court and a jumbotron screen that is in one of the corners of the gym.  It doesn't seem like it fits that many fans though.  They do have some bleachers underneath both hoops that weren't used for the game, that would add some seating.

My only complaint is that if you don't know where you are going on campus, you might never find the entrance to the gym.  I ended up finding the entrance to the gym but even walking through that door I didn't realize if it was the right place or not.  There is a bunch of construction going on around the facility so maybe when that is finished it will be easier to find.

I'm pretty sure SP set a school record in steals this afternoon with 20 in their 92-50 win over Colorado College.  That stat isn't kept on the SP records page, but I looked at the WIAC one, and Point wasn't listed (all teams with 19 or more steals were), so that means that the previous record had been 18 or fewer.

Lots and lots and lots of free throws in this one... the teams combined for 51 fouls and 71 free throws.  Hopefully Point got their FT groove back as they hit 31/40, and a number of those misses were in the proverbial garbage time.

Point is now 2/2 on the barnstorming tour and they'll hop on a bus for a 5 or 6 hour ride to Phoenix... they play at 6:00 (Central) tomorrow night against Simpson (IA)!
