Just a few things about the whole Thomas situation.  I heard that Thomas filled an appeal to the NCAA to maybe get an extra semester of eligibility.  The NCAA process is slow though so the season could be over before they even get to his case.  So I think Eddie played him hoping that he would have him for 2nd semester.
Which would then make sense of how things have played out....  Thanks for sharing the rest of the story!!

Even if I knew before the season started that Thomas was only going to be around for the semester, I'd play him like I had him for the whole year.  Get as much production out of him as possible and maybe get a few more wins that you might not get if you don't play him much.

It took overtime for the WARHAWKS to beat Hamline 91-80 in a game that could best be described as brutal.  Sixteen first half turnovers negated 52% shooting and put the WARHAWKS in a twelve point hole 42-30 at the half.  The second half was the Chris Davis show as the junior post player scored twelve of the WARHAWKS fourteen points.  However the WARHAWKS could never get into the lead.  For a long time the deficit stayed in the 5-7 point range until it was reduced to two points 58-56 with six minutes to play.  Hamline held on though and kept the lead in the 4-7 point range until Antone Byrd tied the game 60-60 on a driving layup with a little less than a minute and a half to play.  Hamline answered with a three point basket to go back on top.  After Byrd had made another layup a steal by Phil Negri led to a pair of free throw shots by Byrd with less than a minute play.  Byrd made the first free throw to tie it but missed the second. Alex Edmunds rebounded the missed free throw but Byrd missed a jumper and the game went to overtime tied 63-63.  Hamline opened the overtime with a three point basket but the WARHAWKS answered with back to back three pointers and a 15-0 run to put the game away.  The two teams combined to score 45 points in the overtime as the last two and half minutes were a continous parade to the free throw line.

Davis finished with 32 points and 11 rebounds.  Edmunds also had a double-double 10 points 16 rebounds.  Byrd finished in double figures with 10 points and Dantzler finished with 17 points.  DJ Dantzler and Phil Negri had game high 4 assists each and Negri also had a game high 3 steals.  The WARHAWKS had significant advantages in both rebounds (52-31, 22 offensive) and free throws (30-47 to 16-18).  The  WARHAWKS shot 20 free throws in the overtime.

A bird told me that Mahlon Thomas is still practicing with the team as the NCAA process is still being hashed out.  So, all hope is not lost yet.  He made the trip but could not play.

Old School.  Your "bird" told you correctly.  Eddie thought there was still a 50/50 chance that Thomas would still be able to play.  Big difference in Stout's ability to compete this year.  Thomas, at times, is as good an inside presence as anyone in the league.

Oshkosh knocks off Marian today, 79-59.

The Titans put four guys in double figures, led by Flanagan and Wittwer's 14 points apiece.  Wojahn chipped in with 12, while Schrimpf added 10.  Washington just missed out on a double-double, as he scored 9 points to go along with 11 rebounds.

The WARHAWKS beat Pomona Pitzer 67-57 in Los Angeles tonight.  Starting cold from the field the WARHAWKS trailed by seven points early in the first half before a pair of three-point baskets from DJ Dantzler sparked the team to a four point half time lead.  The WARHAWKS never trailed in the second half building the lead to a high of sixteen points.

Dantzler and Chris Davis paced the scoring with 16 points apiece.  Antone Bryd also scored in double figures with 13 points.  Davis had his seventh double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.  The WARHAWKS shot poorly as a team finishing at 34.5% though they were 11 for 29 on three-pointers and 16 of 22 from the free throw line.

Tomorrow night it's Occidental.

Remaining schedule:

   Whitewater
   01/03/11      Occidental            SCIAC
   Point
   01/10/11      Macalester (MN)            MIAC

   01/29/11      Finlandia (MI)            Ind
   Stout
   02/15/11      Crown (MN)            UMAC
   oshkosh
   02/19/11      Silver Lake            USCAA

I have to think that the WIAC will be favored in all of these games, if not heavy favorites.

If all 6 are wins, then the WIAC would end the season at 60-21 (74.1%) overall and 48-14 (77.4%) against in-region oppontents.

Not quite as good as last season... but still pretty dominant.

Please check for errors... I caught a couple already.

Last night's Stout-EC game was an intense, typical Blugold-Blue Devil battle. It's too bad it was played in front of such a sparse crowd.
