The WARHAWKS defeat Eau Claire 74-62.  Eau Claire led eary 7-2 before a three pointer by DJ Dantzler put the WARHAWKS up 10-9 at the 14:43 mark and they would never trail again in the game.  The lead grew to as many as eleven before settling in at seven, 35-28, when the first half ended.  The WARHAWKS started the second half with a 7-0 run and led by as many as sixteen.  EauClaire cut the deficit to a low of seven points with a little over two and half minutes remaining but that was as close as they would get.

Chris Davis led all scorers with 29 points.  Antone Bryd had a double-double 16 points, 10 assists and Alex Edmunds finished in double figures with 14 points.  The WARHAWKS went 15-16 from the free throw line to the BluGolds 5-6.  The WARHAWKS had just 5 turnovers in the contest and went 7-16 from beyond the arc.

Amadou Fofana had 22 points and Marcus Ruh had 19 for the BluGolds.

Falcons survive Pioneers, 56-53, as Koonkaew makes 2 FT w/ 7 seconds left. It was a sloppy game with 19 t.o.'s by each team. Manor led both teams with 18. Falcons uninspired until last 3 minutes when they turned up D pressure to create at least 3 straight turnovers.

Stout gets owned against Oshkosh. The game was close at times, but it was Oshkosh's game. Stout never got in a good flow and had people standing while Osh hit big 3's and got the ball inside when it was needed. Hostetter looked better than he has knocking down shots and his two turnovers came on questionable offensive fouls. He went 8-13, 4-6 3pt fg, with 5 reb and 25 pts in only 25 min  ???. Olson played one of his worst games of the season if not his worse. No one else could do much for stout as they went 22-53 from the field.
Stout is in trouble.... Wednesday at Superior is pretty much a must win if they plan on making a run to at least get into the tourny again this year.

Coach Semling was on hoopsville tonight... I didn't listen to it yet, but the archive is here:

It looks like two losses can at least tie for the WIAC title. Whatcha think?

Two could win it.  Thought the Falcons would lose at Whitewater and they didn't.  Point will need to beat them at Quandt to have any shot.  Falcons end the season with three roadies...Point, La Crosse and Platteville.  Prior to their tour, they host Whitewater.  River Falls had slim wins over La Crosse (6) and Platteville (3), so they'll be tough.

I don't want to overstate this, because I think every game is big...

But this is a pretty big game on Wednesday for a whole bunch of teams.

River Falls is clearly in the drivers seat, as they already have their 8th conference win and have the bye Wednesday.  As an aside, I think the Wednesday bye is better than the Saturday bye for a couple reasons... First, it gives you a full, continuous week of practice to prepare for Saturday's team, as opposed to having the Saturday bye and having practice on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and off on Sunday, then Monday and Tuesday back on.

I also think that it's better due to class schedules (both due to non-missed classes on Wed and non-missed classes on Thursday morning) and better sleep patterns... as I think guys are more likely to stay in on a bye-Wednesday than a bye-Saturday.

Anyway, just my two cents on that... and it doesn't even discuss my original topic yet!

This is a big week for everybody else because they're all at least two and a half rungs below RF, looking up, and, barring injuries to key players, I don't see RF doing any worse than 5-3 in the second half of the year.

So here's the lineup:

Point (5-2) vs. EC (3-4)
WW (4-3) vs. Platte (3-4)
LaX (3-4) vs. Osh (2-5)
Sup (2-5) vs. Stout (2-5)

So #2 and #3 host teams that are tied for #4.  It looks like the pack will either become more concentrated (with an EC and Platte win) or some teams will really start to separate themselves.

Just throwing out one scenario... if WW, Point, and Oshkosh win, then we'll have this:

RF - 8-0
Point - 6-2
WW - 5-3
EC - 3-5
Platte - 3-5
LaX - 3-5
Osh 3-5
Winner of Sup/Stout 3-5.

That's a 5 teams vying for 3 spots in the WIAC tourney who are all under .500 and can't be thrilled with how the first half of the league has gone.

It's all just one big muddled up mess (even more-so if Point and/or WW lose on Wed) with one thing very clear... RF is firmly in control at this point.
