Greek Tragedy

I originally had just Old School and then changed it to include my actual name.  I wanted to change it back to just Old School, but it wouldn't let me, reminding me of a poster who used Old School recently.  Not sure if he's on here anymore.  I was then going to change it to Greek Tragedy, which I started using after I got married, to a Greek, of course, but didn't want to confuse anyone when Old School disappeared.  So, I just added Greek Tragedy to my originial Old School name.

In the WARHAWK/Platteville game there were six lead changes and four ties in first nine minutes before Platteville went ahead by as many as six points for the next four minutes when the two teams were once again tied at 26-26.  Following that Platteville again went ahead by as many as six before the half ended with the Pioneers up four 32-28.  Platteville maintained a lead of 2-9 points for the first thirteen minutes of the second half when back to back three pointers from Phil Negri tied the game 52-52.  Platteville regained the lead on a pair of free throws from Nick Allen.  Alex Edmunds cut the lead to a single point with a free throw and Eric Bryson gave the WARHAWKS a lead when, following a Platteville turnover, he got loose with a back door cut and made a layup.  Platteville would tie the game one last time 62-62 but the WARHAWKS responded with a lay up from Chris Davis and a free throw and a pair of steals from  Antone Bryd.  Platteville had one last chance when Bryd missed the back end of two free throws with five seconds remaining.  Nick Allen received the inbounds and got up the floor but lost control in the front court and the game ended 65-62.

Davis was the game's leading scorer with 20 points and led the WARHAWKS with 8 rebounds.  Edmunds and Cody Odegaard scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively.  Davis and Byrd had a game high 4 assists apiece and Bryd had a game high 3 steals including two in the final six seconds of the game.

Eric Wall and Chas Cross paced Platteville with 18 and 15 points.  Platteville outrebounded the WARHAWKS 33-24 with Cross's 9 a game high.  Cross played well 6 of his 9 rebounds were on the offensive end.

Free throws decided the game.  The WARHAWKS shot them poorly making only 10-18 but Platteville only shot 8 of which 7 were successful.  Those three points were the game.

they won't go far in the tourneys shooting like that.

Unless they hold their opponents to 2 field goals in a half, like they did in the first half tonight...

I don't expect to see many tourney teams throw up the bricks that EC did however.

UWO defeats UWL last night, 73-62, in a game that saw senior guard Tony Mane become the Eagles' all-time leading scorer...

He topped the mark of 1,822, set by Larry Halverson, a 1977 graduate; Mane scored 20 and now stands at 1,831.

Halverson and the former numbers 2 and 3 on the list were in attendance at Mitchell Hall to see it, and congratulate Mane. (Ed Uhlenhake 1,699 {1974-78} and Eric Haug 1,649 {1971-75}.)

Quite the front line they had back in those days, should any old timers remember that trio... Along with Todd Herried, now number five (1,404 points (1977-1980)...

Newer posters here will remember the #6 and #7 guys on the list - Joe Werner, 2003-07, with 1,398, and 2004 grad Casey Taggatz, at 1,338.

The only thing I'll add to Bulk 19's excellent summary of our game with Oshkosh is that the postgame ceremony seemed prefunctory and disorganized to me.  Not what you'd expect when a major team record is broken.

Just wondering and I know there is not a lot of traffic on here from Yellow Jacket fans, but they cant be real happy with where they are sitting about now.  Coach Flora led them to a good season last year and right now they are in a dog fight to even make the playoffs.  Seems to me as if they are underachieving.

Any thoughts from the North country.

Also I know TVD and Terry Gibbons are institutions at their respective programs, but these are two of the more high profile programs in the WIAC and they have not been very good. Eau Claire especially.  Does the administration not care or is there any heat in the kitchen.

I would also have thought that Berkhof prior to this year if Bowen had not been the AD would have felt a little heat.  Clearly he is making a big statement to his new boss.

New AD's all over the league do any of them feel any heat to get their teams to preform at a higher level?
