Tom, congratulations!  I'd wondered about the new one's board name: New School?  Young School?  Preschool?  Or, perhaps playing on your new designation: Greek Comedy?! ;D

Wow, anybody call this one for the pick 'em?

Should have took me up on that trade OS-GT

River Falls - Platteville should be a great game on Thursday unless Platteville is just gassed from their game tonight.  Point should be able to handle Superior at home.

WOW!!!!  Tony Mane leaving EVERYTHING out on the court tonight, scoring a "normal" 35 points, but also picking up 11 rebounds.  I'd be willing to bet he didn't have 11 rebounds in his last three or four games combined.

Platte @ RF...  flashbacks to 2004?

Sup @ SP...  flashbacks to 2004?  (at least the regular season finale...  Point won the rematch 3 days later in the first round of the WIAC tourney).

I think SP will take Sup... but Superior has some interesting stats.

They lead the conference in free throw percentage (albeit with the fewest attempts...  at least 80 less than the next-lowest team), and first in the conference in 3 point percentage (41% to 39.5% for RF), and have a pretty low turnover rate (11.8)

Now, what this points out to me is that they're very perimeter oriented... much like Point from two years ago prior.  They led the conference and were high in the nation in all of these categories... but they do kind of go together.

1) Few free throws... they aren't attacking the basket, but they're good shooters (see 3) so they make a high percentage  2) Few turnovers... they're not attacking the basket so the ball isn't in harm's way  3) they take a lot of 3's and have good shooters, so they get lots of good looks.

It can be a winning formula... but it has its faults.  When the shots aren't falling, it can be very hard to score.

Elsewhere in the midwest...

Illinois Wesleyan beats Augustana 70-68 in a CCIW game that could potentially have implications for NCAA sectional hosting (should Augustana get that far).  Augie is a lock even with a loss this weekend... but that potentiality is increased by virtue of the fact that they have to travel to Naperville to play at North Central for the conference tournament instead of hosting it.

Mane had possibly his best game ever, but I think Platteville outplayed the Eagles.  We played ineffective defense in the paint, and no one besides Tony scored consistently.

And I had talked Brian into a road trip to Stout.  :'(

Superior played well last night.  They took a one point halftime lead up to 11 points in the second half and every time we got to within 2-5 points Culy, Ritchie or Smith would hit a three pointer.  Both teams shot pretty well from the field (Superior: 54.9%, WW: 53.1%).  Superior made two more baskets than the WARHAWKS.  Both were three pointers and that was the difference.  They also were really balanced with five players scoring in double figures.  We had our chances but just didn't make the shot when we really needed it and to their credit Superior did.  They played with intensity and once they got the momentum they played with confidence.

There are things worse than a 17-9 season but I can't help but be a bit disappointed it's over for us.  Now it's time to hit the recruiting trail.  We need to strengthen our front court.  With Davis, Edmunds returning and Chris Vines be added to the mix we're set with starters but still need to add some depth.  We'll miss Negri and Dantzler but with Bryson, Merg and Bryd returning we should be ok.  I'll be anxious to see what players we bring in.

Good luck to those teams remaining.

Chmarx, why would you go to Stout?  ;)
