Technically Gordon Mann has the women winning the national championship -- he wrote the women's preview.

Not that I think UWSP can't win, but I want him to get credit for his hard work. :)

I would imagine most of you will watch the video from UST, but in the case it goes down (it did in November when we were there).

I'm down in Bloomington to support the UWL women.  Sadly, we lost last night.

They had frequent updates by the announcer on the IWU/RF game.  Sorry you guys lost, and congratulations on a great season.

Greek Tragedy

Point knocks off Luther, easily, 76-56.  Huge crowd of Pointer travelers there tonight.  Boxscore say nearly 1078 there and 600 were probably Pointer fans.

Tight game early at 4-4 and then Point explodes for a 22-0 run.  Point lead by 19 at the break, but Luther made a little run to start the 2nd half.  Luther cut it to 12 with a 7-0 run and then Jerrel Harris ran off 8 straight of his own on 2 threes and a bucket.  He got a little too excited and pushed off a guy going down the court after his 3rd bucket and got a tech.  No big deal.  It was a 20-point lead by then and Point didn't look back.

I was impressed with Luther's upset victory over Concordia the night before in the face of a raucous crowd of rabid students. They out-rebounded the Falcons 47-29 and scored 20 pts off of 18 offensive rebounds. I thought 6'8" center Wedemeier would pose a problem against Point.

Point dominated him throughout the game and ended up outrebounding the Norse by 5 (9-8 offensive) and outscoring them in the paint by 8 (with 14-9 advantage in second chance points) despite the 4 blocks by Wedemeier.  I talked to a Concordia fan at the half of their game with Luther and he asked if I thought Point could hold up against the physical nature of either of those two teams defense and my reply was that they played against a tougher defense every day in practice and it played out that way in the game. Louis Hurd played extremely well during the weekend and is without a doubt the team leader.  I also heard that Dan Tillema is not likely to return this year because of the elbow injury. I thought the crowd from Point was at least 700 strong, nearly filling the stands we were in.

Hopefully we will travel as well down to Rock Island. I'm disappointed we didn't get to host, but at least St. Thomas didn't. Our home attendance numbers in NCAA tournament games are far superior to either of those teams, but that wasn't enough to offset slightly better regional ranking numbers.

Greek Tragedy

Luther was down 25 with 2:30 to go in the game and still had their starters in, I believe.

The night before, St. Norbert was down "only" 16 with about 2:30 to go and their coach pulled his starters.  I thought that was a little interesting.

Can someone explain why the SP men, who are ranked 3rd in the nation will not host any home games? Is it because the women are also ranked # 3? Is there some D 3 rule that says that both teams cannot host? I assume there is no neutral site option in D#3, but if there was ever a reason to insert that rule, it would be now. SP should be rewarded not penalized for good play. I recall in the football playoffs that WWhitewater, ranked # 1 all year long, was shipped out to Illinois and then out east for two playoff games while MT Union, who was ranked # 2 all year, hosted every game. Does anyone find this unusual at the very least and wrong? Surely one could argue that the defending champs from the WIAC in both football and basketball, need to suck it up and display that they
deserve" their rankings, but come on, this is not right...
