Point loses another game against the LMC. Previously they lost at Lakeland, and now at Edgewood. Two losses in a row after losing to Oshkosh, what does this mean for UWSP?

Read the fine print on this post.  Point plays 4 freshmen 16+ minutes per game.  Once you get to this part of the season, it really starts to grate on you.  I HOPE that they've just had a few bumps in the road... but this is the 3rd loss in 4 games.

The WIAC is tough.  You don't get to take any nights off (case in point, WW and Oshkosh tonight).  Teams with more experience have performed far worse than this Point team has.  Hopefully they can pull it back together... they're only a half game out of first and tied in the loss collumn for the conference lead!

This team has had some great games (the first Oshkosh game, the La Crosse game, the Stout double OT game) and some mediocre ones.  One quality (usually) of veteran teams is consistancy.  Hopefully they can play with experience of more than their collective years and finish the season strong!

Seems as if Platteville came out with bus lag in the first half, then came out with more intensity, fire and quickness in the second half to make a game of it. Wonder how much of a factor it is sometimes in doubleheader games, where the teams on the road have to leave early, then sit around and wait for the women's game to get done...

'Golds hit four big threes to take a 28-16 lead into the half... Just had a feeling Platteville was going to make a run; just a matter of whether the 'Golds could hold them off. Pioneers pull to within 54-51 with five seconds left, but a lapse in defense let Matt Riley throw a nice TD pass to B.J. Vetterkind for a layup to salt it away...

Point Special - I've touted him earlier this year, but a key to the Pointers' success down the stretch will be Brian Bauer.  He launches a lot of threes, maybe too many? But as the size on that team, he's got to get more boards than he has recently! I know he has the intensity to be a banger...

as long as bauer has his tin of grizzly he is an affective player, you take that away from him he is nothing!

Zero FT's is just nuts. TO say UWO did not get fouled on a shot the entire game is absurd.

CONFERENCE SEEDINGS

Ok, everyone bear with me on this one.

1 Stout           8-3
8 Eau Claire    3-8

4 Stevens Point  7-3
5 La Crosse        7-4

3 Whitewater     7-3
6 Platteville        4-6

2 Oshkosh          8-3
7 River Falls        4-7

Wow...Poor Stevens Point, they don't play a conference game (still lose though, tough loss), and they go from having home court advantage to, now being the 4th seed.

Stout takes a major jump, and in all reality with River Falls knocking off Oshkosh at the buzzer (Jahnke took 12 3's, and made 6 of them!), the winner of the Stout and Whitewater game was going to be number 1.

The biggest games on Wednesday:

4. Stevens Point @ Eau Claire: Point needs a win to keep pace, and what better place then a trip to Zorn. The Blugolds are 2-3 at home this year, but thats a lot better then being 0-5 on the road. They have a shot because Stevens Point hasn't been very strong on the road..either (3-2)

3. Stout @ River Falls: Can the Falcons do it again? Hoeg and fellow teammates might need a little bit more magic to knock off the Blue Devils, who themselves have pulled off last second shots. Also, the win against Oshkosh was the first win at home this year for River Falls. Not good considering Stout is a road warrior this year in conference (4-1).

2. Platteville @ Whitewater: The Warhawks slip the first time this year at home to Stout. They get a chance to once again defend there homecourt, but Platteville doesn't mind playing away from home. This year they are 3-1 on the road in the WIAC. If the Warhawks aren't careful and suffer from Post-Stout funk, this game could have upset special written all over it.

1. Oshkosh @ La Crosse: Ok, so they lost to River Falls on the road. Plain and simple, looking at how the womens team did, it just wasn't a very good day at all for Oshkosh. Mitchel Hall should be rockin' and I bet the Eagles are looking to avenge their 2 point loss this year at Kolf. Once again, the key will be Gibson vs Werner. A La Crosse win, add with a Stout win, would give the Eagles the tiebreaker over Oshkosh in the seedings. A Stout loss, then Oshkosh would stay ahead of La Crosse because a Whitewater win would put the Warhawks in first, and Oshkosh has a better overall record against the Warhawks, a team La Crosse was swept by this year. In the end, La Crosse needs this game...a loss and you can kiss good bye any chance of winning the conference title.

You can take away Bauer's tin of Grizzly, but he still has two NCAA D3 Championship rings, though.

The officials at the R-Falls/Oshkosh game were just brutal.  50% of Oshkosh's shots were in the paint and only 7 fouls were called the entire game.  Gibson, Warning, Doedens, and Capelle all got hamered on shots that they took in the paint.
Getting to the free throw line is a huge part of the Titans "O". They usually get to the line 20+ times a game.
It would be explainable if they took jump shots all night, but they were attacking the basket with post ups and dribble penetration.  Bodies were mysteriously falling to the ground and no calls were made.

Great game at Whitewater yesterday.  It is games like this that make me love being a part of this WIAC basketball scene.  It was a classic battle of two very good basketball teams.  It was great visiting with BW after the game and appreciate your treating me before the game.  Also, Eddie mentioned how much he apprciated your discussion with him after the game.   Class act.  He didn't know you were "BadgerWarhawk".   On another note, for those who were asking last week.  Menonomie's Cole Kraft will not be playing in the WIAC next year.  He is going to accept a partial scholarship at Winona State and plans to play football and baseball.  Too bad.   He would have been a nice addition to the WIAC.

A couple of posters have stated/imlied that the officials were responsible for the Osh. loss. Baloney.

As a spectator, I like watching a game in which officials are barely noticed through their whistles. Granted, a total of 14 fouls (7 on each team) called is highly unusual. But it was not a physical game. And the Osh. coaches will not be sending in a tape of any foul at the end of the game which may have affected the outcome as was the case in the recent game in Osh. RF coaches did send in a tape protesting the call which disallowed a bucket that would have possibly put RF in the win column in Osh.

For real deciding factors, how about the 50% shooting (24/24), including 50% on threes, for the Falcons compared to the 39% shooting (24/61), including 33% on threes, for Osh.? Plus, Osh. out rebounded the Falcons by 10, one of the reasons they got so many more shots.

Let's face it:  Oshkosh did  not play a good basketball game.

I'm not blaming the officials at all. I just look at is as theoretically impossible for their to be only two fouls on shots, and 4 ft's to be shot in a whole game where 100+ points are scored. I'm looking over any stat sheet I have from previous games, and have never seen anything like it. Most I can find is 8 FT's shot in a 26-20 HS frosh game.

Is there any one coach in the WIAC that could be in jeopardy of losing his job?

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.
