Those names remind me of one of my favorite occassional non-Division basketball opponents.

It's an interesting name for a university. I'm sure that East-West University got its name because of the midwestern image of itself as being the meat of the American sandwich, with the two coasts being the bread, and because Chicago's status as the capital of Flyover makes it the logical location for a school of that name. But it's also interesting because the common mental axis of Chicagoans isn't east-west, it's north-south. Appropriately, that north-south mentality is fully on display at the moment here in the Windy City, as the Cubs and White Sox are currently in the middle of the first of their two annual Crosstown Classic series.

I've always maintained that East-West University's basketball team is called the Phantoms because you don't know whether they're coming at you from the East or from the West.

I knew you'd have an interesting take on this Chicago-based school. +k.

Mr. Ypsi

Just checked the East-West website - they are reporting that the basketball team has been disbanded (at least for this season).

Apparently the Phantoms have now gone south! ;)

Similarly, in the Mid Atlantic states, the Northern Tier (of Pennsylvania) is south of the Southern Tier (of New York).

Recruiting by pillage continues for Lance Randall...

He is listed on their roster but his name doesn't appear in any of the 2010-11 season statistics.   The year before (2009-10) he appeared in 7 games and averaged less than 3 minutes.  In 2008-09 he appeared in 10 games averaging less than 1 minute.   With one year left he obviously wasn't part of Loyola's plans and probably just wants a chance to play somewhere.

Is it really any different than the transfer's Point has coming in or the UW-Milwaukee player coming to WHITEWATER?  I understand you're pissed at Randall but in this circumstance pillage seems a tad harsh.

If he never played last season, he should have two years of eligibility remaining, using two years to play in 08-09 and 09-10.

If I was just posting because I was pissed at Randall, I'd make a huge deal about how he didn't retain any of the former staff and only kept 5 of the 9 returning guys from last year's St. Leo roster.  I'm not doing that because there's a lot more that goes into building a program and, especially at a place with little to no history, sometimes you just need to clean house.

Perhaps pillage is a bit harsh in this specific situation... Neary was a walk-on at Loyola, sat out last season with a hand injury, and, in the same way that Randall cleaned house, Loyola's new head coach Porter Moser might be doing the same thing.

But Neary excepted, I'm not going to sing a song any different than the one I've sung since this whole situation began.  You simply do not build a program sniping players from other programs.

Don't see this as me being anti-transfer... I transferred to Point after a redshirt year at Michigan Tech.  Michigan Tech just wasn't the right school for me... I never intended to do anything but go there and play my entire career there.  Things don't always work out at one school and another is a better situation and fit.

But when there are so many from a relatively small geographic area where a certain coach has stopped, then things get fishy.

Like I said, I never imagined that I would transfer when I went away to college... I wish I could say the same for others... a certain high profile transfer from a WIAC school just talked about using his WIAC school as a Juco...

And things look even more fishy.
