Last year in Madison the Badgers didn't reset the score at halftime.  Does this mean they will be on probation?

Double secret probation.

The time has come for somebody to put his foot down. And that foot is me!

I don't want to get in any hot water with the NCAA, so I can't publish the time ........... Oh wait, can they penalize a fan??  ::) I guess if I don't actually post the time it should be OK. :-X  It starts pretty close to 2:59PM. :-X :-X

That's stupid.  Who schedules games at 2:58??  Is this MLB that schedules first pitches at 7:07?

I think the extra time for MLB is so TV fans can settle in with their nachos & beer after the pregame ends ???

Interesting scrimmage today. Point narrowly took the first "half", MTU the second and I didn't stick around for the third. Point came out with Tillema, Tillema, Brezinski, Abbeglen and Giordana as starters, with Ryf, Kacala, Hass and Parlow playing major minutes.  Tyler T came down on someone's foot late in the first period and had to be helped off the floor - didn't return to the gym, so I hope it was not a major injury as he appears to be offensive option 2.  #1 scoring option was Dan T, who nailed 4 of 7 treys and two breakaway dunks on his way to 25 pts total (in the first 2 periods) as well as about 4 steals. Abbeglen has muscled up since last year and looks remarkably like Scott Hoelzel did as a frosh, but he does not have the hops Scott did. Brezinski nailed a 3 and a few buckets, but got pushed around too much on "D", wish he would have spent some time in the weight room with Aggeglen. Nothing new from Giordana. Ryf made a few mistakes but did hit a 3 and played well on D.  Kacala did well inside on the boards and on D.  Hass was impressive scoring several points including a pair of treys, and Parlow was probably the best of the big men scoring-wise hitting inside shots and boarding well too. Point will be able to score inside or out with this bunch, but they need work on defense. MTU was able to penetrate way too often (Austin Armga - Waupun WI) and post ups by their big man Ali Haidar. MTU returns 4 of 5 starters and 11 of 14 from last years 17-11 team. http://www.michigantechhuskies.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=18800&KEY=&SPID=10929&SPSID=90465

Overall, Point matched up pretty well considering the size MTU came out with (3 starters 6'7"), but defense will have to improve to get wins. The young players will have to develop fast because depth will be a problem early in the season.

Thanks for the update.

After reading this,  I feel like Point is a better team than I expected as I thought they may have to rebuild a little this year.  I am also a little surprised not to hear Ziemer mentioned at all as he was a guy mentioned that was practicing well.  Did he play at all Frodotwo??  Having young guys playing well like Hass, Ryf, Kacala and Parlow is going to be huge.

With Semling as the coach I don't think I'll ever be too worried about their defense.  I think their struggles have a lot more to do with Tech being a good D2 team than anything Point was doing.  I don't see any teams on Point's schedule that can give them the matchup problems Tech can, unless you want to count Wisconsin on their schedule.

Here's to hoping Tyler's injury isn't anything significant, he would be a huge loss for any amount of time.

Ziemer played the last few minutes of period 2, but had no stats, positive or negative. I talked with another fan who saw him play several times as a Jr & Sr down in Verona and said he was one of the top players in that Madison league. He was a scorer inside and outside. I think he is playing catch-up after not playing competitively the past 2 yrs.

I think Augustana still has a pretty big front line coming back this year, maybe bigger than MTU.

They really need players to step up early and develop depth. The Tillemas (22+ mpg), Giordana (15 mpg) and Brezinski (13+ mpg) are the only players with any time in the system. Hass should help as he got about 15 mpg with Augustana last year.

I heard the same things about Ziemer after he decided to attend Point, which is why I was so excited to see him play.  Basically, I was told by some fans down in the Madison area that they were shocked Ziemer didn't go D2.  That Madison league is one of the best in the state, so the competition he played against I thought would really help him as he adjusted to the WIAC.  As you say, he probably still is getting back into the swing of things after not playing for 2 years.

You bring up a great point and exactly the reason why I thought Point would be having a rebuilding year for their standards.  They have 4 very solid contributors from last years team back but basically all unknowns after that.  Abegglen sounds like he is really improved and is locked into the rotation at this point.  The rest of the rotation will be made up of newcomers.  The newcomers that look to be fighting for a rotation spot are Hass, Parlow, Ryf, Kacala and I'm going to count Ziemer there as well as he hasn't really played for Point yet.  How these guys play will go a long way in what type of season Point puts together.

I was pretty encouraged at the scrimmage today.  UWSP has a bright future.  It is clear that we are a young team but a young team with promise.  Ryf played well.  He is strong and confident.  Haas is a shooter.  When he is hot, feed him!  Parlow plays strong and confidently.  He will be a scoring and defense force this year and for the future.  The freshmen will compliment the upper class men who also played well.  They beat a D2 team in all three halves -- that's not bad.  It may be a rebuilding year for UWSP but I believe it might be a pretty exciting year.

That is a little conflicting as frodotwo said Tech won the second half...regardless I'm happy with the result.  You might be onto something with it being an exciting year for Point fans.  I can't wait to follow these underclassmen all year and am expecting some great things from them in the future from these early season reports.  It sounds like Semling and Co. hit a homerun with this recruiting class, and they needed to.

Falcons scrimmage St. Mary's in Winona tonite, a "homecoming" for Chris Palmer, who transferred from St. Mary's to RF after finishing in the MIAC as leading rebounder and second leading scorer last year. When/if I find out how it went, I'll report.

Exhibitions are essentially real games that don't count. D-III schools aren't permitted to play exhibitions against other D-III schools, only against D-I and D-II schools.

Scrimmages are essentially joint practices. That's why they're not publicized, score isn't kept across periods and usually they play more than a regulation game.

Word on the street was that UWRF & new MIAC transfer, Chris Palmer, scrimmaged his former school, St. Mary's (SMU) on Saturday afternoon. Anybody hear any results on how that scrimmage turned out?  How did Palmer & Shane Manor look together, is big ol' talented post player Wade Guerin, healthy & back in the lineup; Thomforde, the transfer PG, along with the other returning nucleus for the Falcons?

With the heavy graduation losses & transfer that SMU had, I can't imagine they put up much in the way of a competitive scrimmage against the Falcons.

Thanks to several members for explaining the difference between a scrimmage and an exhibitiion.  Obviously, I was confused.

I still think the Badgers should be on probation!  :P
