Anyone with a report on the Eau Claire/Rockford game from today?  In looking at the live stats, it appeared Eau Claire scored with 0:04 left to take a two point lead.  Rockford turned it over with 0:03 left, and after a boatload of fouls were called, Eau Claire shot six free throws, making three for the final five point margin.

Just wondering what actually happened with the technical fouls....

UWRF wins 68-59 against Pac Lutheran.  They were down by 6 at one point in the first half, but came back to take a lead and opened it up to 11 with 4 to go in the game.  All 5 Falcon starters played 30+ minutes and scored in double figures, led by Manor and Guerin with 14 a piece.  The negatives were 17/29 from the line and 16 turnovers.  They play 4-0 Puget Sound tomorrow night.

Any word on when we'll see Cross or Edmunds back playing?

Oshkosh picks up their second win in as many days today as they knock off Rockford College 84-68.

The Titans scored the first basket of the game and led the entire 40 minutes as they put four guys in double figures for the second straight day, athough it was a slightly different group of guys today.  A day after scoring 21 points Royston is held to just 4 points, but Hutchinson steps up to score 12 points off the bench.

Mathwig and Wurtz lead the Titans in scoring with 18 points apiece, while Flanagan adds 17 points.  Flanagan had 11 rebounds and Mathwig 9 boards to help UWO win the rebounding advantage 36-28.

The pair of victories evens the Titans record at 2-2 as they open conference play at Stevens Point December 7th.

Point won tonight 87-70. I saw most of the game (I was running after a pair of 3 year olds and we left with about 3 mins left).... I may be able to provide nore thoughts tomorrrow when I get back to I'LL. I haven't seen final stats but heard the Tillemas both had 24 and 6 TO's for the team for the game. SP jumped out to a 21-1 lead and 14 at the half... Buena Vista cut it to 5 in the second half but back-to-back-to-back 3's by Ty Tillema helped to rewiden the lead.

Despite 24 pts., 10 rebds. by Manor, RF lost 67-64 to Puget Sound, now 6-0. Kimble had 12 pts., 8 rebds, 4 assts. in a second straight outstanding performance. Nobody else in double figures. Colin Utke had 9, Zach Peterson 7. Guerin had no points and four fouls, but did not play for the last several minutes. He may have been injured.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

To add to FredFalcon's recap........UWRF shot 36% for the game, 4/19 on threes, and 18/27 from the line.  Tough to overcome that shooting performance, especially when you add in 16 turnovers.  The Falcons trailed almost the entire game, but actually came back from 10 down to take a 1 point lead with a minute to go.  Disappointing to have two early losses..........althought I have no idea how good Puget Sound is.

I watched the entire UWSP game.  Any win is good!  The big three scored well but ....  defense is a real issue.  We simply gave up too many easy baskets.  No one helps the big who steps in down the lane.  What really alarms me is not just the reliance on the Tillemas but the fact that we apparently have no one to take JB's place.  Are the new freshman bigs that raw?  We need a more balanced attack.  On a positive note we really improved on the TOs - only 6.  Bring on the regular season.

Your win over the Tommies looks even better after they knocked off D2 Concordia-Saint Paul last night

The WARHAWKS took to the road and beat Hamline 87-76.  Trailing 4-2 early Eric Bryson put the WARHAWKS on top with a three-point basket and the lead steadily grew to 18 points before finishing at 17, 48-31 after twenty minutes.  The WARHAWKS shot 54% from the floor including 7 of 14 from beyond the arc.  The second half got dicey as the WARHAWKS went stone cold from the floor and the Pipers got hot cutting the lead to a single point 55-54 over the first nine minutes.  At that point the WARHAWKS warmed up and though the Pipers shot well themselves the deficit remained between 5-9 points before single free throws from Alex Merg and Chris Davis created the final.  Despite the cold spell the WARHAWKS finished at 54% from the floor and 12 of 22 on three-pointers.

Davis led all scorers with 31 points (10-11 free throws).  Cody Oldegarrd and Bryson each had 3 three pointers and each finished with 15 points.  Charlie Fischer sank 4 three-pointers for 12 points.  Merg, filling in at point guard, had 13 assists.

Was this a tourney or a classic (... so the two non-WIAC teams couldn't have played each other... and the two WIAC teams couldn't play each other)?

I thought it was hit or miss with the defense yesterday.  There were some definite bright spots... such as Austin Ryf preventing a shot by the BV point guard to end the first half.

But there are some fundamental things that the young guys need to learn...  They're ok at the half court defense, but you can tell that they've been working on that (getting to shooters, stopping the ball, ball pressure, etc).  It doesn't seem like they've worked a whole lot on transition defense.  The most important facet of transition defense if picking up the guys who are in transition and stopping the ball...  If you don't have the ball, you have to get ALL the way back, from the basket out, and pick up a man.  It seemed like the defenders were either so transfixed on their individual man or the ball that they missed guys streaking to the bucket.

Your point about help-side defense is definitely an important one too, though... It's hard when you've got somebody like Jordan Giordana guarding the off-side guard.  For one, he isn't really big so he won't be able to provide a whole lot of help anyway... and he also can't give his man that much room either for the same reason.  I love the kid to death and I love what he brings from a shooter's perspective on the offensive end, but he's a bit of a defensive liability.

For that matter, though, he's not the only small guy out there... Point doesn't have the luxury of having a bunch of 6'5" and 6'6" guys out there... And the guys they have of that size that could potentially spell Brezinski just aren't where they need to be right now (Kacala has played some good minutes but he's inconsistent... as are Parlow and Van Handel).  But I think that's to be expected.  Not too many big men can come right into the college game ready to play.  It typically takes them some time to grow into their bodies and be ready for the physicality of the college game, especially in a league like the WIAC (which they haven't gotten a taste of yet).

Joe Ritchay and Alex Richard (in addition to Ryf) have provided some pretty good minutes for Point.  I think that this team will definitely get better... and one thing is for sure (which might have seemed in doubt after Tuesday's game...) but this team can shoot the basketball.
