As noted previously the WARHAWKS defeated LaCrosse 60-45.  Neither team shot well in the first half.  An Al Cherry jumper game LaCrosse an early lead, 6-4, two and half minutes into the game and they held the lead until a Charlie Fischer three-pointer put the WARHAWKS on top 11-10 with ten and half minutes remaining.  LaCrosse would tie the game 13-13 on a Jack Taylor three-pointer with eight and half minutes to play but went stone cold missing their next thirteen shots and failing to score the rest of the half as the WARHAWKS made a 12 point run to finish up 25-13.  LaCrosse shot 17% (4-24) in the half.   The WARHAWKS paced by Chris Davis' 15 points shot 37% (10-27).  LaCrosse started the second half with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to single digits but the WARHAWKS responded and maintained a double digit lead for the first five minutes.  LaCrosse got within single digits on a three-point basket by Braden Tice and stayed within 5-9 points for the next eight minutes before a steal and layup by Eric Bryson put the WARHAWKS up 47-36 with seven and half minutes left in the game.  After that LaCrosse closed to 8 points once before the WARHAWKS built the lead back to a high of 16 points and the game finished with the final 15 point spread.

Davis led all scorers with 23 points.  Luke Knoble added 11.  Both Davis and Knoble pulled down a game high 8 rebounds.  Bryson and Quardell Young each had 3 steals and Alex Merg had 4 assists.  The WARHAWKS shooting improved to 54% in the second half as they finished the game at 45%.  The WARHAWKS had a season low 8 turnovers.

Taylor led LaCrosse with 17 points and Lucas Collom had a team high 7 rebounds for the Eagles.  LaCrosse finished the game 28% from the floor.

Knoble continues to improve and appears to playing with more confidence each time out.  This year's edition of the WARHAWKS is playing better defense than those of the recent past.

Badgerwarhawk or chmarx,

Why didn't Jeff Heiden play last night for LaCrosse?

badgerwarhawk

There were two LaCrosse players in street clothes.  He may have been one of them but I don't know what he looks like so I couldn't say for sure.

Stout has yet another disappointing offensive effort scoring only 51 points against Superior. The same Superior that beat Northland College by 2 little points and Stout beat by over 20. This means Stout shouldve beat Superior..... only if it worked that way. The blue devils didnt get their first point until about 6 min into the game and were down as much as 22 in the first half. Good defense and a fast tempo cut the lead down to 7 midway through the 2nd, but Stout couldnt keep the momentum. Aalfs had a couple crafty finishes at the rim as he looks to have a breakout season with Smith and Culy now gone. The game was, sorry to say, boring for 35 min and mildly entertaining to cover the other 5. Watching what will appear to be a battle of a couple teams ending near the bottom of the WIAC this year.

Being a Stout fan I have to ask the question WHEN? When is a coaching change going to happen and Eddie will be gone. The coaching strategy isnt there for these kids and clearly hasnt been for the last few years. Not coaching to your talent and not being able to make changes during a game with mismatches and situations means needing a change. Isnt that what a coach should be able to do? Granted the team is young and will be getting a few additions after Xmas, they have a few really talented kids that should allow them to cause a few upsets....... if coached correctly. How can your college team only score 50 points a game??...... and defense orientated is clearly not the reason. Going to be a long and frustrating season watching the Blue Devils this year........

My expectations of this season will be simple, even with a "down" year......
Stevens Point, Whitewater, and Oshkosh at the top
Plattville and River Falls in the hunt
Stout, LaCrosse, Superior, and Eau Claire battling with each other

Was it a minor injury or will he be out for a while?

Really ugly physical game  @ Zorn last night. I like the way Nick Bartlett has continued to progress coming off of his foot injury last year. I really like the energy Coach Green has brought to the program, but on the other hand the team is really not that talented and really lacks any skilled big guys and is going to struggle in WIAC play this year. FR Alex Anderson looks to be a pretty promising player for UWEC down the road as does Jake Manning for Plattville

There's something about Jeff Heiden's jumpshot that just looks cool.

Not sure. Heard he was going in for further evaluation last Wednesday or Thursday. Have not heard the result yet.

I couldn't agree more that Stout could benefit from a little change at the top.  With that said, I have to disagree some with your expectations.  I definitely don't see Oshkosh being in the top 3.  After watching River Falls against St Thomas, I think they might be the class of the league at this point and hate to say it, but a matchup nightmare for Stevens Point.  Also, when Cross comes back for Platteville, I see them as a better team than Oshkosh as well.

After taking a second look at the scores from this year so far I would have to agree with most of the points you make. I reacted a lot off the players RF lost from last year along with Superior. Wade should be a tough matchup for most teams in our conference and Manor is an athletic freak. I still Like Osh with Flannigan and I go with the assumption of their younger players coming back improved and ready to work off of him. I am excited to see some of the "role" players breakout after all the big loses for teams with graduation/transfers.

Augustana looks like they will give Point trouble with their size.  They seem to be as big as the Mich. Tech team we scrimmaged in the beginning of the season.  6'9" to 6'7".  We will need to limit their second chances and run a little more.  If this game slows done to a half court contest, IMO we may be in trouble.  Hass and the Tillemas need to be on!

While you may end up being correct, I don't think you are giving Oshkosh enough credit.   After watching them play Augustana earlier in the season, this Titans team may sneak up on more than just you.
