BanditUWSP,

That is correct, Gbenga is no longer on the team.  I know the details, but I don't think it's my place to disclose them here.

Just a tidbit I saw somewhere, so I thought I'd pass it along...
After the fall semester, four WIAC teams are in the top 25 for the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings. (Based on finishes in cross country, football, field hockey, soccer and volleyball...)

#7 Whitewater - with national champs in volleyball
#10 La Crosse - men's cross country champs
#24 Oshkosh
#25 UWEC
#1 is College of New Jersey. Point is #83, and Plattevillle #93, but in those instances, there are an abundance of ties... Couldn't find Superior, River Falls or Stout in my brief look at the standings...

#1248
Interesting... Williams has won the award every year (exept perhaps for the first) and they're in 6th.  Now they're only 123 points behind, but... Ok, here it is, 9 out of the last 10 years

Also interesting, Point is 5th in conference.  I'm pretty sure they've been on the top of WIAC teams in the past few years

99-00 7th nationally
00-01 6th
01-02 6th
02-03 Ok, I was wrong, Point was 3rd in the WIAC @ 16th (Oshkosh was 8th, LaX 10th)
03-04 5th
04-05 5th

I think 5th is the highest a WIAC team has been EDIT: finished (I know that La Crosse was 2nd and Point 3rd in past years after the winter sports)... and IMO it would be harder for them to get much higer than that because the WIAC teams don't compete in men's golf, m/w la crosse, men's tennis, women's bowling, fencing, skiing, women's field hockey, men's soccer.

That's NINE sports that other schools can compete in, that the WIAC schools don't.  Now, there are a lot of other schools that don't compete in them either... but they're not consistently in the top 10 (and a WIAC team always is).

I've always thought of OS and Swampgoon as the cheesehead version of Penn and Teller, only without the card tricks.

I do play cards, but I'd think more in line with Jay and Silent Bob since Swampgoon never says anything.  :D

Pretty quiet here on another big day in the WIAC, as the doubleheaders are all set to tip off... Women's board is dead... Ha.

Oh, Point Special - UWEC has men's golf... Wow. Yawn. They have done fairly well on the national level the last 10 years, but I'm not sure how many teams that comprises, and I'm not sure if the WIAC has any additional teams?

Not to take anything away from the golfers, but I'd rather see UWEC bring back baseball... Seems like my era here was about when it went out the door... Of course, the 'Golds
would get stomped by the likes of Whitewater, Oshkosh and Point, but Carson Park is a great facility for baseball...

EC Express had a team thank-you night after its debut season this summer, and all the speakers (Twins GM Terry Jorgensen sp? and others) seemed to think it's a shame UWEC doesn't have a team any more... Anyway, sorry for talking baseball here...

UWEC will be hiring a new chancellor very soon. Wonder what kind of influence he will have on the sports programs here? Wonder if he'll increase the salary for the new football coach, which I think was the lowest in the conference????

Ok. Oops. That's football, baseball and golf in the hoops forum... Sorry. Will be back later to check on everyone's takes on what happened in hoops today...

Neither does Teller, which is why I said Penn and Teller in the first place.

WHITEWATER keeps pace with a blowout win 91-63 in Superior.  The WARHAWKS take an 18 point half-time lead, 44-26, increase it to thirty in the first eight and half minutes of the second stanza and the final score is the closest Superior got the rest of the way.

WARHAWKS shoot 64% from the floor in the first half and end up 56% on the game and won the battle of boards 37-29.  Melvin Williams led five HAWKS in double figures with 17 points.  Gio Riley chipped in 14 and Jeremy Manchester added 12 despite spending a lot of time on the bench with early foul trouble.  Rob Perry and Cory Vernon each scored 10 points and played well.

Perry continued to play well.  Vernon is getting more minutes each contest.  Williams is picking up his game.  Riley produced with today's extended minutes.  Everyone dressed played and all but one scored.

Leornard Cobb had 27 for Superior.  He had to take a lot of shots to get them and overall the defensive effort was pretty decent particularly helpside.

Combined the WARHAWK men and women teams scored 186 points today.

So, we've got:

1. Stout 10-3
2. Point 9-3
2. Whitewater 9-3
4. Oshkosh 8-5
4. La Crosse 8-5
6. Platteville 5-7
7. River Falls 4-9
8. Eau Claire 3-9
9. Superior 0-12

Point and Whitewater meet at the Quandt on Wedensday, then Point travels to Stout on Saturday.  After WW plays Point, they go to Oshkosh.  Stout finishes the year at La Crosse, so the top 5 teams all will have some say in the regular season title (as will some of the other teams, if they really want to!).  The top is a little less muddled... but this race is far from over!

I was at the Point/La Crosse game... but I'm too exhausted to post tonight.  Is everybody else in the same boat?

Paper or Plastic??

Hey fellas....I'm a long time follower of this site and after plenty of cold ones and a lot of liquid courage I decided to finally get myself on this site....

Abercrombie, Freddy "the mayor," or Frankie T.....
Is Ryan "straight butter" Zylstra and Tremedous 12 Thompson  the real deal  prospects for the future for RF basketball??

Old School....
I really like your insight about Point bball.....can Krull and Hicklin get Point back to the title game (ala the days of Kalsow and Bennett)??

Just wanted a little insight on the happenings at RF and Point...  Thanks guys, WIAC bball is the best in the nation...

stoutguy

For us "Stoutguys", the Osh/Stout game was awesome.  Nothing controversial or lucky about the win but just two very good teams going at it and the home team being just a bit better.  Oshkosh had two kids who played very well Gibson (7-11, 19 pts) and Jahnke (8-17, 4 three's, 20pts) but Stout had everyone  (except Chaisson who forced it a bit) play well.  This was a team win and this team has become so unselfish that it will take a really special effort to beat them right now.  Chandler had 12, Stangl 15, Farmer 10, and Jake N., the player of the game with 11-17 shooting, 4 dunks, 4 blocked shots, 13 boards (6 offensive boards) and 23 points.  The kid has become a story in this conference.  Time to just stop talking about his size and lack of basketball experience.  He is a player.   Period.  Eddie is fond of saying all the games count the same.  None bigger than any other.  Well, I respectfully disagree.  I think the Point/Stout showdown Sat. looms larger than the Sup. game on Wed.  I think the winner of the game Sat. will become the conference champion.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
