Greek Tragedy

Not sure if anyone wants to play Superior in the conference tourney.  In back to back games, they lose on a 3 pointer and win by 2.  A big turn around for the Yellowjackets as they were crushed in Whitewater.  Point seemed to handle them the best, but that doesn't mean that will be the case if they face them in the tourney.

Where they play makes a difference. Jackets don't do well in Point or Whitewater. I hope they prove me wrong

Anyone know why Greg Schrimpf of Oshkosh didn't play on Saturday?

If LAX and EC both lose their last two games, who wins the tie breaker and seed #6?

EC would win courtesy of their 1-1 record vs Platteville (if they lose to the Pioneers). LX is 0-2 against them.

No clue man, wish I knew. It took until the 10 minute mark of the first half to see that he wasn't in River Falls. As if things weren't bad enough for Oshkosh (with Royston being done for the year and all). Brett Meineke had to run the point for a while, ugh.

I agree that location is key for the Jackets come playoff time. We always have struggled at Point, and I would be shocked if Superior could pull off a win there this year. As for Whitewater, in recent years they have actually played decently, including an OT semifinal loss in 2008 and beating them there in the semifinals last year. Quandt seems to be the only place where I don't have much hope for a victory.

In the last 14 meetings between the two teams in WW Superior is 2-12 by an average score of 80-67.  One win in 2004-05 and one in 2010-11.

I like our odds.  ;)

With only 2 conference games, for most teams, left to go, there is a lot at stake for many of them.

Stout and Oshkosh will be playing for the "toilet bowl" on Saturday competing who gets to end their season with a win (or if Osh even gets a conference win this season).

Eau Claire, La Crosse, and Platteville battle it out for the 2 remaining spots in the WIAC tournament (Platt only getting one more game). La Crosse has a tough road ahead playing River Falls and then at Superior... not looking good. Eau Claire gets to go to Platteville to even things out and then host a tough one against Point. Platteville can secure a spot with a win at home against EC on Wednesday.

The top 3 get to battle it out till the very end. River Falls and Stevens Point are in share of the title so far (RF holding the tie breaker for #1 seed), but things can change quickly. River Falls of course travels to LC and then gets a chance at home for revenge against the Warhawks. Whitewater plays desprite Oshkosh at home and RF on the road. Stevens Point has the "easiest" schedule with a home game against Stout and hen on the road to Eau Claire. Of course Stout is playing as a spoiler with nothing to lose and EC could be battling for survival so anything can happen.

Knowing the tenative results of the conference here is my premature guess of end of season awards.......

Player of the Year- Chris Davis -WW
Coach of the Year- Jeff Berkhof - RF (assuming they hold on and win this week)

All Conference........

Chris Davis- WW
Shane Manor- RF
Tyler Tillema- SP
Dan Tillema- SP
John Flannigan- OSH
Ben Aalfs- SUP
Brett Stangel- PLT
Ollie White- RF
Jordan Peterson- EC
Jordan Brezinski- SP

Honorable Mention........

Luke Knoble- WW
Wade Guerin- RF
Al Chery- LC
Alex Oman- ST (If he played enough games.... sort of a shot in the dark)
Nick Craggs- EC
Brian Kimble- RF

Not really sure how many HM they usually give out but i would guess 5 or 6.

Feel free to knock on my projections/comments all you want. Time to sit back and see what happens the next few days........

Can't practice or travel with team. Has expectation of being on team when year off is done. I understand he had knee issues, but I can't imagine you can red-shirt a season during which you have to sit out.
No, you can practice when the team when you have to sit out.  Greyshirting is different... effectively, Manor got what amounts to a redshirt year without it actually being called that.

It's similar to what Jerrel Harris is having to do at D-II St. Leo after following Turncoat Randall (all NCAA athletes have to sit out if transferring "up" from III to II or I, "up" from II to I, or laterally from II to II or I to I.  No NCAA rule for III to III... but some conferences, like the WIAC do have such a rule for people like Manor who transfer within the conference.  Thus, Harris doesn't lose the year of eligibility, can practice with the team, but can't participate or dress for any games.

Interestingly, Marcus Ruh did not have to sit out... b/c his head coach retired.  There's an NCAA rule that you don't have to sit out when transferring if your head coach leaves, so he can play right away at St. Leo.
Not true- you can go D3 to D2 and not sit out. Just need a release. Both Ruh and Harris had one. (Had nothing to do with Gibbons not being there for Ruh.) For Harris it has to do with academics and WIAC rules, even though went to D2. (Read NCAA transfer rules if not sure , and then go to conference trransfer rules)

BTW- Before calling Randall turncoat you might want to find out all the facts associated with your current coach "withdrawing" from UWGB consideration and broken commitments.

I'm not saying we will win, I'm just saying more recently we have at least been more competitive down there. I definitely would prefer the odds to be flipped around :D
