Thanks for having me on, guys.

It is our pleasure, Pat. We posted it on the MIAC football site and we took a bunch of hits from Minnesota!

The WIAC guys that regularly listen showed up as well.

Thanks for being on and let's keep it rolling.

Anyone happen to know why Brain Bauer is not playing today for Point?? I defintiely wouldn't have picked Point in the Pick'em if I knew he wasn't going to play. :'(

Shows how much I know, as Point pulls out a 69-68 victory at Stout.

Very impressive win for Point, considering one of their top players (Bauer) doesn't even step on the court.  Stout puts 5 players in double figures (Chandler 13, Stangl 12, Chiasson 11, Farmer 10 and Nonemacher 10) yet still comes up short.

Other Finals....

Greek Tragedy

First off, I heard on some radio show this morning (not sure why I was up at 8:05 though) that Bauer wasn't going to play, but didn't hear why.  There has yet to be a write up on the game tonight...which leads me to this:

Swampgoon and I missed out on the Stout trip (and a meal with Stoutguy and BlueDevilBob) tonight as we were at Lambeau watching hockey!  Anyway, I call Swampgoon's dad to get a late score and find out the Point women got hammered and the men were down 8 or so with 8 to play.  "Call me when the game ends," I instructed.  No call, so I figured they lost as well.  WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED AT JOHNSON FIELDHOUSE???  There is a little write up compliments of this site, but I need DETAILS!  By the way, apparently Mr. Swampgoon didn't have my number...he's forgiven...though I almost had a heart attack when I saw the score via this website.  ;)

I guess Stoutguy and BDB wouldn't have been in any mood to eat with Swampgoon and I after the game anyway!  :'(

Greek Tragedy

Well, all I have is the Boxscore via Stout's website in Point's stunning 69-68 win in Menomonie.

A few observations.  I'd like to know why Bauer didn't play if anyone knows.  They go with a small lineup with El-Amin starting, basically in Bauer's place, with the usual suspects of Rortvedt, Hicklin, Krull and Bouche kicking things off.  Shocking to see Jerome Wotachek logging 26 minutes, Drew Jackson (read that he scored 5 points in the last minute) came off the bench with 19 minutes, and little used Shawn Lee coming in with 15 minutes.  I was also surprised to see that Lee didn't even play in the second half, according to the 1st half/2nd half split stats.  ???

According to the release on the scoreboard page, it says that Stout couldn't buy a shot or something like that...they shot 55% in the 2nd half! Uh?  Must have come in spurts because Stout was up 18 with 13 minutes to go!

On the Stout side, why didn't Jacob Nonemacher start?  Isn't he always a starter?

Only a guess: Senior Night at Stout; Brian Buck started. That doesn't seem like a completely satisfactory guess, but it's a stab...it can hold up until a real answer comes along

WARHAWKS take over first place, thank you Stevens Point, with a blow out win over the Falcon 81-56.   River Falls shoots a frigid 17% from the floor but an overwhelming advantage from the free throw line (21-9) keeps them close before Jeremy Manchester sinks a clutch three-pointer as the first half ends and WHITEWATER enjoys a 10 point lead, 32-22.  The second half was all WARHAWKS as they shot 59% from the floor, blew the game open and led by as many as 30 points a couple of times.   The WARHAWKS continued to shoot well at 51% for the game.  River Falls was stone cold behind the arch shooting 4.8% (1-21).   Melvin Williams leads WHITEWATER with 18 points.  Andy Fruend contributes 14 points and 7 rebonds.  Jeremy Manchester adds 11 points and Rob Perry gets 10.  Craig Anderson comes off the bench for a team leading 8 rebounds.

Ryan Zylstra paced River Falls with 13 points.  Zylstra had foul problems and only played 25 minutes.  Melvin Williams gave Hans Hoeg all sort of problems and he was held to just 9 points primarily from the free throw line.

WARHAWKS are playing some pretty good basketball right now.   We may be peaking at the right time.  Time will tell.

Thank you for Stevens Point, never thought I would say that but I can say that Stout still sucks (argue that one, Nonemacher).

Toellner didn't play today because he was concussed by his teamate Craig Anderson, and Melvin finally is coming around and holding his own (4 of 5 threes today).  Tight defense on Hoeg all day.  Congrats to them, i wanted to go see by old alma mater RF but the UWW weight room was filled and I had to wait for the machines to open up (even Evan Cherry was in there before the game).

On to Oshkosh, should be a terrific game.  Tough road test.

Just returned from a great game at Stout.  Regarding Jacob N., he won the opening tip and was the last of the 5 starters announced.  Brian Bauer had a big boot on one of his feet.  My GUESS is that it's the plantar fasciitis thing acting up. He told me recently that it can be very painful and will take time to heal.  The Pointer fans that made the trip to Stout knew it was going to be a long, hard afternoon, but walking into the fieldhouse and seeing Bauer not warming up for the men and Cassandra Schultz not playing for the women (concussion) made it harder.  Great comeback for the men as they overcame an 18 point deficit with only 13:06 left.  Most, if not all of that time was played by Krull, Hicklin, and a variety of freshman.

This looked like a totally different team than the one that was beaten by the Warhawks only a few nights earlier.

A comeback of this magnitude will do wonders for the confidence of this young team.  They will  be a very dangerous team to face come WIAC championship week even if they don't have the services of one of their best players.
