Anybody at the Point game last night?

Final score was 82-52 BOX

Point led by as many as 44 in this one in the second half.

SP used a 21-0 run 3/4 of the way through the first half to put this one out of reach. It was 45-25 at the half, then Point opened the second half on a 33-8 run over the first 15 minutes of the second half to push the lead to 77-33.

SJU finished the game on a run of their own... 19-5, against the guys at the end of the bench for the final.

I didn't get to listen to much of this one (after all of my ballyhooing, there wasn't video... at least none that I could find) but I was shocked when I turned the live stats back on after having to run some errands mid way through the first half... and seeing a 2 point lead balloon to 42!

Easily Point's best game of the young season. I saw the Lawrence game as well and in that one they looked tentative going inside and slow on defense, both of which they were not last night. Ty Tillema had an awesome all-around game, with several spectacular assists via penetration. I was critical of Austin Ryf last year of being too tentative, but he is not this year and earned the starting nod with his play. Joe Ritchay also got the start and his strength and fight inside will be a huge asset. Heuer is better than he appeared the first couple of times I saw him, but St. John's had no one his size to counteract him so he dominated. Offense fed off the defense, which was the best I've seen them play this year or last, a huge turnaround from Saturday at St. Olaf.  Once they got out to that big halftime lead I thought back to last year's game at St. John's where they had a big first half lead and played poorly coming out of the break.  Not this year, as Point won the fights for loose balls and rebounds and came up with several early steals in the second half and put the game away with a 25-4 run to the 10 minute mark. Subs then took over with the 3rd string playing the last 9 minutes, with Jordan Lutz playing very well (other than his turnovers) with 8 pts and 8 boards in 17 minutes. If they can play with this intensity every game it will be a good year. Big improvements in their game from last year by Ritchay, Ryf, Lutz Richards is evident so far this year, while Giordana has not really made an impact at all.

On to Storm Lake and Buena Vista this Saturday, a long ride of 7 hours according to Google maps.

Like I already posted Platteville was suppose to travel to North Park last night but NP backed out and they scrambled to fill a 25th opponent.  I am aware of the fact that Platteville is yet to play an NCAA III opponent but they did have an exibition game vs DI UIC i believe they play a DII team in their California trip plus they travel to North Central and Augustana and Goshen although NAIA beat Eau Claire.  Meat and potatos are nice but everyone needs a cupcake from time to time.

Cupcakes or not, sometimes its just hard to find someone to play.  Whether it be the opponent doesn't want to agree to a home and home series or someone doesn't want to possibly "take a loss" by playing a WIAC team.  It happens.  I know football plays a conference opponent as a nonconference game because of their troubles of finding opponents.  Point played Oshkosh in a nonconference game a few years ago in basketball, (out in Vegas?).

Anyway, sometimes teams want to play meat and potatoes all the time.  #24 Randolph-Macon started the season against a very good Christopher Newport, then vs #16 Transylvania and then vs. #19 St. Mary's (Md) all within a 4-day span.  BTW, they are 0-3.  :'(

In a battle of conference favorites, Whitewater destroys NathCon South favorite, Aurora 107-68. HERE IS THE GAME STORY

Doesn't sound like it was much of a game with Whitewater up by 15 at the break.  They take on Carthage, picked 3rd in the CCIW this year, tonight in Kenosha.

I remember seeing earlier this week that there was a link to watch the Point game tonight, apparently there is no video now.  Wonder what happened there??

RF over St. Scholastica 69-43 (I think). Live stats quit at half, streaming in and out. Stats later.

UW-W wins Carthage tournament with a 74-69 win over Carthage.  UW-W held a 39-24 lead at the half. Carthage made a few runs to tighten the game, but the Hawks held on for the win.  Eric Bryson had 19 and KJ Evans had 15 to pace UW-W.

Pointers beat Buena Vista 80-68 tonight, good road win early in the season.  Off of memory from the live state I think Tillema ended up with 22, Heuer with 19 and Ritchay with 15.  Also, could be wrong but I think Ritchay got his first dunk of his Pointer career tonight.  The announcers made a pretty big deal about the play.  It was in the halfcourt which doesn't happen too often in D3 basketball.

David Stanley scored 19 in 20 minutes, Arik Smith had 13. No Falcon played more than 23 minutes in win over St. Scholastica. Falcons play Concordia-Moorhead tomorrow.
