Just returned from a great game at Stout.  Regarding Jacob N., he won the opening tip and was the last of the 5 starters announced.

Oh, interesting.  Stout boxscore had Brian Buck starting and not Nonemacher.  Whatever, I guess I really don't care...and I forgot about Bauer's previous injury, which kept him out at least a game and a half earlier in the season.  Thanks Bandit.

And just so I don't look like a total moron...they changed the boxscore...apparently someone got confused with Bouche and Shawn Lee...Lee didn't play at all.  The initial boxscore had Bouche only playing about 8 minutes and Lee playing 15 and Krull playing only 30 (which surprised me).  Now, it has Bouche totalling 18, and Krull with 35 with only 8 players being used by Point.

Boxscore has Zylstra playing only 17 minutes, which I think is right. Melvin Williams held Hoeg to nine, 5 from the line and a lucky bank jumper for one of his 2 field goals. The first half was pathetic for both teams, and was really hard to watch exept for Melvin's job on defense. Freund made some incredible passes but really needs to be shown where the wieght room is, along with several other Warhawks.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Bandit answered most of your questions, Old School,  and the lineup was different because of senior night.  Bauer's injury sounds kind of serious as Semling said that he wasn't able to practice because of the pain.  What an amazing comeback.  I was shocked.  I would have bet everything with a 15 point lead at 7 minute mark that this thing was over.  Your kids just would not quit.  Defense, offensive boards, great shooting, hustle for the loose balls, everything that got Stout ahead, got them behind when Point took over.  I told coach Semling after the game that Stout didn't lose it, your guys won it.  Old School, what the heck were you thinking going to Green Bay to watch hockey when this game was available and BDB, who now leads the pick'm pool, was going to buy.  The hockey looked fun, but you missed a classic comeback from a team that has a gigantic heart apparently.  Major blow to Stout and now they need help.  Go, Oshkosh.  Also, major blow to pool C opportunities.  We are planning an all WIAC show next Sat. morning.  We'll cry some more then.

Congrats, BadgerWarhawk, and it sure will get interesting now.  Your team is playing very well.  WW4ever, I see that you are listed as a 2nd stringer.  I would guess that describes you pretty well.  And thanks for sharing that you lift.  That was good to know.  Jake Nonemacher says "HI".  Hopes to see you again!!!!

stoutguy--how'd you like the raucous message on your cell phone from the Alehouse after the game? I thought Stout lost it when they went to small ball latter part of second half. At that point they quit trying to get the ball inside and settled for threes, which were not falling.

At one point early in the second half Stout looked positively brilliant, doing everything right in in building their 18 point lead. Then the surge stopped and the momentum switched. From then on, it seems to  me, the Nonemachers spent quite a bit of time on the bench in favor of a smaller lineup.

I  spent quite a bit of time listening to the "Luke Loney Story," from the perspective of "guess who" after the game. It's not a pretty story.

Nice message on the machine, FredFalcon.  I owe you one.  I am going to try to get over to your cute little gym on Wed.  for the La Crosse game.  Do I need to get there early to get a seat?????  You are buying after the game.  I have already decided that.

Thanks Stoutguy and I think you're right, it is going to get a lot more interesting before it's over.  Right now we are playing as well as we have all season but Oshkosh will be a tough test.  They've had some extra rest with the bye on Saturday and I expect they'll be playing like a team with everything to lose and out to make a point.

The most positive thing is that we control our own destiny.  It won't matter what anyone else does if we simply take care of our own business.  If we fall short we'll only have to look in the mirror to figure out why.

Most of us here in WWland[/color] appreciate Nonemacher's talent and the impact he can have a game.   Personally, having now seen every team, I think he's probably one of the most improved players in the league.   I wouldn't be calling him out on a public website.  There isn't any thing good that can come of it and frankly we don't need to be providing him extra motivation.

Swampgoon and I missed out on the Stout trip (and a meal with Stoutguy and BlueDevilBob) tonight as we were at Lambeau watching hockey!

I guess Stoutguy and BDB wouldn't have been in any mood to eat with Swampgoon and I after the game anyway!  :'(

OS, it was supposed to be a pre-game burger at the local BlueDevil haunt so you and swampgoon could get on the road afterwards.

The offer stands for next year.  ;)

stoutguy--When the word gets out that a radio celebrity is in town for the game, you will NEED to get here early for a seat.

When the decision about who buys comes up in RF, it goes to committee. I'm the head of the committee. I'll tell you how it comes out after city  council debates the issue Tuesday night.

Swampgoon and I heard about the game at Lambeau sometime in the summer, I think.  We immediately said we were going whenever tickets went on sale.  We got the tickets in mid-October and later found out it was the same day as the Stout game.  As much as we are disappointed not to make it up to Menomonie and share a meal with you guys, and witness one of the greatest Pointer comebacks in history, we don't regret it for one second that we went to the hockey game.  Swampgoon and his brother wore their "Hanson" jerseys from Slap Shot and they were famous.  People wanted to get their pictures taken with them!  That hockey opportunity doesn't come around every year like a trip to Stout!  Sorry boys!  :D

Here are a few random observations now that we are getting close to the end of the season.

It is nice to see people start to give Whitewater some credit for being a well-coached and good defensive team.  I will get my first look at this year's UWW team on Wednesday, but I thought Melvin Williams was the best perimeter defender I saw in the WIAC last year.

Jacob Nonemacher might very well be the most improved player in the WIAC this year.  Although his age is a drawback, I will go out on a limb and say he has an outside chance to play at the next level.  He definitely has the frame and athletic ability.  The rest is developing.

We all better get used to the idea there is only going to be one WIAC team in the big tourney.  Too much would have to go just right for there to be more than one.  Every team sets winning the conference regular season as a goal, but it seems that getting to the NCAA's is what really matters these days.  With that in mind, there are three purposes to the regular season:
1.   Enjoy playing college basketball.
2.   Improve as a team in preparation for the post season.
3.   Try to position yourselves to get home court advantage in the post season.
Once we get to Feb. 21, it is likely to be win or the seasons over.  That is what makes post season tournaments so exciting.  You have to play better than everyone else at the end of the season.

Old School, you made the right call, no doubt. I don't know squat about hockey, but my son played football at North Dakota, so we all learned about the passion of hockey folks.  When he did his masters at Wisconsin, I learned quickly that you do no wear ND gear in Madison.  We have had the Badger hockey coach on our show several times this year.  He is a class act, straight shooter, and a fun interview.  Being from the Eau Claire area, HS hockey is a very hot and controversial topic right now.

I can certainly see attending an historic game like that instead of a big WIAC regular season game.

Holy Cow... I'm out of town for the weekend and I miss an amazing Point comeback...

Mr. Downtown,

Are you sure that Stout would be the 2 seed and Point the 3 seed?  I haven't looked at it, but it seems more logical to me that head to head would hold more weight than record vs. above teams (where Stout WOULD have the advantage).

Never mind... Stout is up a 1/2 game on Point, I hadn't looked at the standings.  Even so... if (and it's a bigger if that we Point fans would like, as Platteville beat Point at Point) Point beats the Pioneers in Pioneer Land, who would hold that second position?

I was going to ask a hypothetical, if Whitewater would lose to Oshkosh... but I'm exhausted, and I don't even want to think about that right now... I'm just going to be a pretty big Titan fan on Wednesday... rooting for them almost as much as I'm rooting for Point... but I care a lot more about Point at this jucture!
