Illinois Wesleyan scored the game's first eight points before the WARHAWKS got on the board.  Wesleyan's lead grew to double digits twice in the half but the WARHAWKS gradually cut into it getting to within a single point twice before the half ended with Wesleyan up three, 28-25.  Wesleyan pounded the boards in the first half holding a 20-9 advantage and shot 52% from the floor to the WARHAWKS 38% but the game stayed close because the WARHAWKS forced 17 Wesleyan turnovers while committing just 7 themselves.  Darnell Harris led all scorers with 11 points which included 3 of 5 from beyond the arch.  The complexion of the game changed quickly in the second half as Harris and Luke Knoble combined for all 14 points of a 14-2 run by the WARHAWKS giving them a 39-30 lead.  IWU came back to tie the game 41-41 but the WARHAWKS eventually increased the lead to 11 points, 68-57, with slightly more than a minute to play and held on for the 71-65 victory.

Harris had a huge night leading all scorers with 32 points and finished 6 of 8 on three-pointers.  Knoble finished with 18 points and Quardell Young added 11 to round out WARHAWKS with double figure points.  Young finished with a game high 7 assists while Harris and Eric Bryson had a team high 6 rebounds apiece.  The WARHAWKS shot 69% from the floor in the second half and finished at 54% for the game.  The WARHAWKS had a 31 to 8 advantage in points off of turnovers including 10 to 0 on fast breaks.  Though they were outrebounded 34-21 the WARHAWKS outscored IWU 36-22 in the paint.

A nice road win over a ranked team.  Travel to Stout for a game on Saturday.

Hopefully this Harris kid can turn into something special.....especially only being a Freshman. He was fun to watch last night. He was everywhere.

Darnell Harris' 6 of 8 3's last night was no fluke.  He leads Whitewater hitting 47% of his three point attempts this year. He was 60% from 3 as a senior playing a national schedule at his Humble, TX prep school.  BTW Cody Odegard is at 45% from 3 this year. YIKES!

He's the real deal.

I believe he is a legitimate mid-major Division I talent.  Last night he looked like a D1 guy playing in D3.

Voice, wasn't sure if easier to catch you here or back on CCIW board...

Darnell Harris never attended prep school in La Jolla, CA only Christian Life Center Academy in Humble, Texas last year

Voice, it seems to me that Harris left his Milwaukee H.S. after his JR year and played at Christian Life Center Academy in Texas during the 2010-11 season.  This article from August 2010 mentions him heading there - http://www.jsonline.com/sports/preps/101441709.html

But for 2011-12 it seems that he was at LaJolla Prep. Here is video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMgfLq9wHkY

(Just from watching the video I'm 100% sure that is the same Darnell Harris that lit the Titans up last night.)

Here is a MaxPreps player page: http://www.maxpreps.com/athletes/Noo5qJG9E02_-g6BMdR8rw/basketball-winter-11-12/profile-darnell-harris.htm

And a boxscore from 12/11/12 (LaJolla Prep vs L.A. Trade Tech): http://www.saddleback.edu/athletics/basketball/brum01.htm

Here is mention of his committing to Cleveland State (from LaJolla Prep): http://clevelandstatehoops.blogspot.com/2011/09/darnell-harris-commits-to-cleveland.html

Titan Q - I bow to your superior knowledge!!  I didn't realize Harris had played two years of prep school basketball at two separate schools.  I'm going to  further investigate and report back this evening.
Thanks TQ for the heads-up.

After watching last night's game do both teams justifiably belong high up in the D3 rankings?

I wonder how many people felt that way after his first three games.  ::)  8-)   :o

I did. :D

He's learning a new position and how to play with four other guys who know the system inside out.  It takes a little time.  I'm not saying that he'll score 30+ night in and night out but he's only going to get better as the season progresses.

I only watched a few minutes of it but I felt confident with them both being Top 10 teams.

UWW seems to have the fire power and speed to keep up with any team. However, I would like to see them improve their foul shots and rebounding, and maybe their defense a little as conference play begins.

I will see that Pat gets the message, 02.  :D

What I really want to know is what emma thinks is needed  ;)

Seriously, we're off to a really good start but there's always things to work on and I expect that there will be a significant change in the physicality of our opponents once we're into the conference schedule. How that might affect some of the new guys is yet to be seen.  You have to keep in mind that despite returning four starters we have a number of new faces that have to learn the systems and mesh with each other and the veteran players.  There is a learning curve there and it takes time.  Barring the unforeseen the team should only get better as the season progresses.

Four returning starters, with Darnell Harris being the next Chris Davis

I don't see a problem  ;)   ;D

I'm just kidding around...I know this team has a ways to go, it's a long season. Those who know me from the football boards, know I very cautiously optimist about my Warhawks.

Eau Claire hits 10 of 13 three-point attempts and leads Saint Scholastica 50-29 at the half.

How bout Tony Bennett winning @ Bo?  Wow.

This Pointer fan is smiling!   :)

Speaking of teams in Wisconsin... anybody catch the final of the Northwestern/UW Superior game?

Northwestern wins 97-68.

That's Northwestern from Minnesota, folks, not from the Big 10...  Yikes.

I'm sure the players from Northwestern in Illinois get mistaken for my Northwestern as much as I was mistaken for them.   8-)

I can't say I expected that margin either.  The next WIAC test is going to be a little tougher.

I don't know who to blame more for the Big Ten/ACC tie, the Badgers or Spartans.  Disappointing..

No Trent Davis in last nights boxscore. Is he hurt?
