True, but that wasn't stated. I didn't want anyone to get the impression that every game will now be counted under the new rules.
That's fair. I was hoping you didn't have some new info on the rule. But I did write "teams must play 70 percent of their competition in-region." Key hyphenate was in-region. Onward ...

Greek Tragedy

Superior dropped a 71-60 decision to Gustavus Adolphus in Eau Claire.  Superior falls to 3-8.  Peterson lead four players in double figures with 21 pts. and 8 rebs.  Byrne had 12 and 12.

Eau Claire stormed back from a 37-30 halftime deficit to rally past St. Olaf 69-62. Eight players scored for Eau Claire, with Mau, Craggs and Effertz all scoring in double figures; 15, 12 and 11, respectively.  Craggs also lead the team in rebounding with 9.

Platteville eased past La Verne in California, 70-61 after taking a 40-28 halftime lead.  Chas Cross went 9-11 for 18 pts, while Jake Manning was the leading on the boards with 7.

Huge day in the WIAC today as all nine teams are in action

Stevens Point is in Texas vs Texas-Dallas
Superior and Eau Claire swap partners as Superior takes on St. Olaf and Eau Claire battles Gustavus Adolphus
Whitewater heads to the St. Nobert College tournament and takes on an underrated Northwestern (MN) team.
River Falls hosts St. Johns (MN)
Stout and Oshkosh are in Wisconsin Dells to take on Loras (IA) and Concordia (WI).
Platteville stays out in California and takes on Colorado College
Last and definitely not least, La Crosse has the toughest test out in Vegas vs. #3 North Central (IL)

So did anyone pay the $5.95 to watch the Point game?  I would have, but knowing how poor most streaming video is, no way. Live stats is even very poor. Money well not spent ::)

I paid the 6 bucks...Gio got his stroke back to say the least.  He hit a couple tough shots but for the most part in the first half, Dallas was leaving him open.  He ended up with 29 with 9 3's.  Ritchay ( I believe) was the only other Pointer in double figures with 13.  DeVon Jackson made his season debut and looked solid.  He will be a welcome addition as the backup to Ryf.  Tillema didn't play a second which was probably smart as he wasn't needed.  He was dressed and I imagine would have gone in if it was a close game.

Heuer was dreadful.  He only played a few minutes because of foul trouble but those fouls were plain stupid.  He needs to play smarter as he is easily Point's best option inside the paint.  If Heuer is in foul trouble and Point isn't hitting from deep, they would be in trouble.

With that said, good showing down in Texas...It's great to see Gio finally play well this year, hopefully he brings this shot back to Wisconsin.

Platteville goes 2-0 on its California trip, knocking off the La Verne Leopards 70-61 yesteray evening and upending Colorado College 61-59.  La Verne isnt very good (record wise) but check out some of there opponents this year exibition games vs UC Santa Barbra and the Afghan national basketball team and regular season games against D1 Cal State Bakersfield and nationally ranked UNLV.

A bit of a head scratcher as Loras beats Stout at Wisconsin Dells 74-67...I only say a bit because it has been over three weeks since the Blue Devils last game. I guess the rust got to them a bit...shot only 28% from the floor in the second half

WARHAWKS: 71
Northwestern (MN): 61

The WARHAWKS scored first but Northwestern answered with a three pointer to take a lead that they would build to a high of nine points and hold for the entire first half before it ended with the Eagles on top by five, 34-29.  The Eagles were hot from the floor in the first half shooting over 60% for much of it including 5 of 11 from beyond the arch.  The WARHAWKS on the other hand shot 25%-30% for most of the half.  However as the half progressed Northwestern cooled off, finishing at 48%, while the WARHAWKS heated up some finishing at 41%.  Reggie Hearn came off the bench to lead the WARHAWKS scorers with 8 points while Luke Knoble and Quardell Young each added 6 points.  Alex Merg opened the second half with a three-pointer and after each team scored a basket Darnell Harris stroked another three pointer to give the WARHAWKS their first lead since the opening basket, 37-36.  Two lead changes and a pair of ties occurred over the next four minutes until KJ Evans came off the bench to score nine straight points giving the WARHAWKS a six point lead 52-46.  Northwestern would make a 5-0 run to pull within a point but the WARHAWKS responded and a pair of free throws from Merg and Eric Bryson in the final minute ended any chances the Eagles had.

Shooting percentages changed significantly in the second half as the WARHAWKS shot 52% to Northwestern's 37% and finished the game out shooting the Eagles 47% to 42%.  The WARHAWKS out scored Northwestern 12-5 from the free throw line though the 12-21 for the game was disconcerting.  Ten team steals led to an 8-0 advantage on the fast break and a 13-5 points off of turnovers.  The taller WARHAWKS out rebounded the Eagles 42-32 and dominated the paint with a 42-18 scoring advantage.

Luke Knoble led the way with 14 points.  Hearn (13) and Evans (11) came off the bench for a combined 24 points and Quardell Young added 12 points.  Merg and Young each had 4 assists.  Merg finished with a game high 11 rebounds and Young's 3 steals were also a game high.

Northwestern finished 10 of 26 from the beyond the three-point arc.  Both are season highs for WARHAWK opponents.

St Norbert beat Marion 67-57 in the other game and the two winners meet tonight.

UW-Whitewater gets beat by St. Norbert 66-55. Warhawks playing with out Cody Odegaard again. St. Norbert really plugged up the lane and Warhawks were not feeling it from deep. My finished live blog of the game http://diiihoopsblog.blogspot.com/2012/12/live-blog-uw-whitewater-at-st-norbert.html

WARHAWKS: 55
Saint Norbert: 65

SNC scored the first four points of the game before the WARHAWKS rallied to tie the game and over the next five or six minutes the two teams were tied five times with a pair of lead changes.  SNC tied the game 14-14 and then took the lead and held it for the remainder of the half.  Their largest lead was five but a three point basket by Eric Bryson left the WARHAWKS down one 22-21 at the half.  Quardell Young and Alex Merg scored the first six points of the second half giving the ]WARHAWKS the lead 27-22 but SNC battled back with a six point run to regain the lead 28-27.  Over the next three minutes the lead changed hands four times with a tie when SNC emerged with a 35-33 lead which they never relinquished the rest of the way.  Their lead reached double figures with six minutes left in the game and after that the WARHAWKS could get no closer than eight points.

Turnovers were a big problem for the WARHAWKS as they finished with 18 to just 10 for SNC.  SNC did a very good job of keeping the WARHAWKS out of the lane forcing outside shots that just weren't falling or picking the pockets of our guys trying to penetrate.

Quardell Young led the way with 21 points and Luke Knoble added 10.

The WARHAWKS will host Cardinal Stritch Wednesday night.

Odegaard has a broken hand and will miss several weeks.
