You all should have been in RF, not for the game so much as for the after-game party where stoutguy, the most generous person of all time, refused to let anybody else buy, PICKING UP THE TAB FOR THE BEER AND THE EATS! All this baloney previously about stoutguy never buying? I dont buy it, and I didn't tonight. His motto? "If you're short on cash, drink with me." I hope he comes to town again, and again, and again. (Is that the way I was supposed to say it, stoutguy?)

As for the game, LaCrosse did not play their best, but did scrap hard. Their perimeter defense was relentless, although it cost them in the foul department. Nonetheless, the Falcons played well, battled hard, and came very close to winning it. Zylstra, with 26 and Werner with 27 had a great battle in a very physical game. W had 12 rebounds to Z's 9, but they pretty much played each other to a standoff.

Stoutguy got a promise of an interview from Rich Melzer on his radio program this Saturday morning, 8:00-10:00, 880 A.M. on your dial. Melzer is back from New Zealand where he finished up his season averaging about 29 per game for the last 10-12 games, but 18 ppg overall for the season. He now heads for Israel where he will play until May. Stoutguy also will have Eddie Andrist, Koelbel from LaCrosse, Rick Bowen, and other WIAC luminaries. Don't miss it!

Hey guys, my previous post was NOT intended as sarcasm.  The first college hockey game ever played outside in Wisconsin.  In hallowed Lambeau Field (I'm not a Packer fan, but I know what Lambeau means to Wisconsinites).

I would have done the same, OS.

Thanks for the recap Fred. There were some tense moments simultaneously at the women's game and on the radio listening to the men. It sounded like Chris Ask hit some big shots again. Just a question. Listening at the end of the first overtime it sounded like Hoeg took an early shot (something like 8-10 sec left) with the score tied giving La Crosse 5.something to go down and win it. They described it as a running one-hander. Is this accurate? It seemed like River was in great position after a miss and all the sudden a shot was rushed up.

Hoping for a couple home games here Monday and Tuesday so the old lady will let me out of the house two nights in a row.

Somebody....please....call 911......

stoutguy picked up a tab and BDB wasn't there to partake in this momentous occasion....

billys--yeah, that's about what happened. And it was Ask who kept them in the game down the stretch. He had no points first half. One thing we could not figure out:  Werner sat the bench for quite a long stretch during second half and was not in foul trouble. We wondered if he had been injured. He finally got back in, but spent too much time on the bench it seemed to us.

My Platteville pick over Point, which ties me with BDB, is probably what got me into such a generous mood.  Badgerwarhawk, what was I thinking when I went with Osh.  I'll tell you what, Titan2000, another rat just jumped off the ship.

Defense was the name of the game last night as Oshkosh was held to just 27% from the field and WHITEWATER only connected 35% of the time.  Cappelle, Jahnke and Gibson held to 7 of 29 from the floor.  The first half was uneventfull, Oshkosh hit two shots with less than a minute to go to forge a 25-24 lead.  WHITEWATER ran off a 16-4 run in the first six and half minutes of the second half to take the biggest lead of night 40-27.  Oshkosh answered with a 15-6 run and cut the deficit to four points which was as close as they would get.  Geo Riley sank 5 of 6 free throws, Mike Toellner added a pair and each had steal in the final minute to preserve the victory and stretch the differental to 10 points, 59-49.  The rats were scurrying franticaly. ;)

Melvin Williams led the way with 11 points and 6 rebounds.  Rob Perry added 10 and 6.  Mike Toellner 9 and 7.   Nobody necessarily really jumps out at you but everyone contributed a little bit of something.  Despite the off night offensively, when do we play well offensively in that barn, it was a good team effort in an absolutely critical game.  This time we were up to the challenge.  It's nice to finally get a win over those guys.

Gibson had nine blocked shots....whoa, that's pretty impressive.

Now to avoid the proverbial letdown against Eau Claire.  In addition to the opportunity to clinch our first outright conference championship since 1994 a win will give Coach Miller his 100th career victory.

I don't know what you were thinking Stoutguy but then I never do. ;)

And...I've never witnessed this alleged philanthrophy of yours in the bar.  That's not the way I remember it that night at Saxes Lone Star.  :D

When I see stoutguy at the Hoops Club luncheon today, I am going to ask to see a reciept from his alleged philanthropy.

I am not quite "buying" this story of extreme generosity just yet.

Although, I do know his pockets are bulging with money from bean farming.   :)

Fred....

Werner picked up his 3rd foul with about 18 minutes to in the 2nd half, which is why Koebl took him out. He did sit there for a long time, I want to say 8 minutes, but at the time it was a back and forth game with RF only going up by as many as 5. LaCrosse got back in the game immediately when Werner stepped back on the floor. Great game all around. The nice physical battle inside with Werner and Zylstra. Chris Ask had a solid shooting night and LaCrosse did a superb job limiting Hoeg clean looks.

I can understand why, Stoutguy.  I have problems when I'm falling down drunk too.  ;)

I'll bet you he has a receipt BDB.  He's probably going to call it an "entertainment expense" and run a tax scam when he files.   Those radio personalities do it all the time.
