Point hosts Northwestern and then probably travels to Calvin, if chalk holds up.

I actually read the bracket wrong, think Calvin was hosting Rose-Hulman, that's why I thought Point might go to Calvin.

Oman, Hortman, and Olson all make 1st team. Pretty impressive and happy for all 3 of them. Only surprise in the list to me was Morrisey made it instead of Knoble. Numbers were somewhat similar, but WW finished 2nd in the conference. I didnt get to see LAX play so I just have the numbers to go off.

Here is an interesting look at how individuals impact a team's performance.  The following analysis is not based on individual stats, but compares team performance with individual players in and out of the lineup.  This is an objective analysis using actual data from every game played by Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams this season.  Based on this comprehensive analysis, the following players are making the most positive impact on their respective team:

UW-Eau Claire: ANDY KLEIST improves UW-Eau Claire's scoring rate by 5.3ppg but also allows opponent scoring rate to increase by 0.1ppg - a net gain of 5.2ppg.    NICK CRAGGS (5.1ppg) also makes a strong positive impact.

UW-La Crosse: JEFF HEIDEN does a nice job of not only improving UW-La Crosse's scoring rate by 6.4ppg but also reducing opponent scoring rate by 8.0ppg - a net gain of 14.4ppg.    CALE ZUIKER (10.8ppg), BRADEN TICE (8.3ppg) and TRENT SCHMIDT (5.2ppg) also make a strong positive impact.

UW-Oshkosh: ANDRE WALLACE does a nice job of not only improving UW-Oshkosh's scoring rate by 2.6ppg but also reducing opponent scoring rate by 10.7ppg - a net gain of 13.3ppg.    JADE ROYSTON (8.7ppg) and DYLAN WURTZ (5.1ppg) also make a strong positive impact.

UW-Platteville: JIM STOCKI does a nice job of not only improving UW-Platteville's scoring rate by 2.8ppg but also reducing opponent scoring rate by 2.7ppg - a net gain of 5.5ppg

UW-River Falls: OLLIE WHITE does a nice job of not only improving UW-River Falls's scoring rate by 9.7ppg but also reducing opponent scoring rate by 4.8ppg - a net gain of 14.4ppg.    DAVID STANLEY (12.2ppg) also makes a strong positive impact.

UW-Stevens Point: TYLER TILLEMA improves UW-Stevens Point's scoring rate by 12.3ppg but also allows opponent scoring rate to increase by 3.7ppg - a net gain of 8.6ppg.    JOE RITCHAY (6.8ppg) also makes a strong positive impact.

UW-Stout: JOSH KOSLOSKE does a nice job of not only improving UW-Stout's scoring rate by 11.2ppg but also reducing opponent scoring rate by 4.2ppg - a net gain of 15.4ppg.    ALEX OMAN (8.6ppg) also makes a strong positive impact.

UW-Superior: BRONSON BYRNE does a nice job of not only improving UW-Superior's scoring rate by 6.8ppg but also reducing opponent scoring rate by 11.1ppg - a net gain of 17.9ppg.    TRENT DAVIS (7.5ppg) and JARROD PETERSON (6.8ppg) also make a strong positive impact.

UW-Whitewater: PATRICK SOUTER does a nice job of not only improving UW-Whitewater's scoring rate by 4.7ppg but also reducing opponent scoring rate by 3.3ppg - a net gain of 8.0ppg LUKE KNOBLE (5.0ppg) and KJ EVANS (1.4ppg) also make a positive impact.

Yes, that is interesting and worth + karma for your time.

dmj - great analytics, very impressive.  Is the majority of your numbers based on team's plus/minus when they're on the floor?  If so, who are the top 5 to 10 plus/minus guys in the league?

havej

stoutfan - congrats on 3 first teamers, it's definitely deserved.  Regarding Morrissey as all WIAC first team, also definitely deserved.  Without question the best #4 man in the league in terms of all around versatility and impact.  Always takes on a tough defensive assignment, scores, passes, and plays the right way.

Thanks for that and after taking a little closer look Morrissey is up there in quite a few categories when knoble is not. Just a little surprising and only 1 person from the team that finishes 2nd in the league is named to all conference. Obviously they had multiple as honorable mentions.

WW should have had a 2nd player and my choice would have been Eric Bryson

badgerwarhawk, thanks for the karma.

havej,

the numbers above are a bit more interesting than a straight plus/minus as they take into account a time element as well as how the team does when the player is not in the game.  It is a patent pending algorithm which measures the impact of individuals on a team objective and adapted to basketball.  The numbers given above are the difference between how the team does with and without the player on the floor.

Per your request, the following are the top ten plus/minus for the conference:

        Player                       Team             plus/minus
1) STOCKI, JIM             UW-Platteville          227
2) KOSLOSKE, JOSH      UW-Stout                221
3) CROSS, CHAS           UW-Platteville          220
3) RITCHAY, JOE           UW-Stevens Point    220
5) OMAN, ALEX             UW-Stout                217
6) HASS, TREVOR         UW-Stevens Point    210
7) HEIDEN, JEFF           UW-La Crosse          204
7) KNOBLE, LUKE          UW-Whitewater       204
9) OLSON, ERIK            UW-Stout                203
10) YOUNG, QUARDELL UW-Whitewater       200

The problem with plus/minus is that if you are on a strong team, the more you play, the better your plus/minus.  If you are on a weaker team, the longer you play the worse your plus/minus.  The above algorithm takes that into account by introducing a time element and, more importantly, compares the result to when the team is playing without the player. Hence, giving you a far more accurate (and better) picture of how the individual is impacting the team.  Hope it makes sense.

Was it Mark Twain that said "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics"??

But I work with statistics, so good job and keep them coming!!!

havej

DMJ - thanks for the plus/minus, interested in knowing where the other 3 first teamers on playoff teams (Heuer, Hortman, Morrissey) fared in the plus / minus.

And yes, your analysis about playing for a winning or losing team makes perfect sense.

Lastly, based on the algorithm, who are the top 10 players in terms of value or team significance?  And thank you for your insights
