Greek Tragedy

Well, today is the day.  Super nervous for the Pointers against the taller Calvin team who seem to out-rebound everyone and their mother. I don't know much about North Central, but I have more confidence of Whitewater winning on the (sort of) road than Point winning at home.  Good luck to both team tonight.

Oh, and congrats to the Whitewater women making the Elite 8.

I'd have to see that to believe it...pretty disappointing because at this pace, it's completely unwatchable.  I'm just listening to the radio now.

Never mind, back to the old link... but Point's now down 11, might not be worth watching...

It seems this Point team peaked way too early....they've been fairly average for the last month or so...

What do you mean average?  According to your poster "ShineTime" had it not been for a couple of injuries, Point would have "easily" won another national championship this season.  Sorry, tested and true Point fans.  I just couldn't resist another shot at that comment.  You guys have a great tradition, a great coach, and probably the most loyal fans in the conference.

Greek Tragedy

Not sure what you mean by "your poster," but whatever! LOL

Anyway, for Point's standards, they might have been average.  I didn't have a good feeling going into the tourney this year anyway, and I think I've said that before.  They were just 3-3 in their last 6 games going into the NCAAs.

With the reported height of the Calvin team, I wasn't too confident since we aren't a great rebounding team.  For me, at least, there was something in the air about not having Tyler Tillema in the lineup.  Obviously no disrespect to the rest of the team, and they did put in some very good performances without him, but I always felt the ball was going to drop on them.  Maybe that's the pessimist in me.

As much as it was disappointing for the Pointers to lose last night, I was more surprised to see Whitewater go down.  Granted, NCC is no light weight, but the Warhawks hadn't lost since the Point game back in late January and I felt they were playing some real good ball down the stretch.

Looks like lack of consistent perimeter shooting was UWW's undoing

I meant national titles.  They beat whitewater twice last year and with jerrel would've clobbered them.  Personally I think this year with a healthy Tyler Tillema alone they would've had great chance at final 4 almost beat st Thomas on their home floor with a 50 percent Tillema in December.

Sounds like "Your poster" to me, but maybe just a fan.

He may be a Point fan, but he's not MY poster.  :P  I'm not claiming him as a dependent on my taxes. ::)  ;D

I know this is the men's board, but props to the Whitewater women making the Final Four, beating Simpson, who beat Point the previous round, and then topping Hope (due to geography, Whitewater hosted, but Hope should have)...now on to Holland to take on Amherst in the Final Four.  Good luck!

Not quite, havej. You have it half right I think.

UWW was only 3 for 16 (a sickly 18.8%) from distance and 21 for 48 (43.8%) overall.
NCC also hit only 3 treys (of 12), but shot 53.2% overall (25 for 47).

If you ask, the NCC staff will tell you that UWW was the toughest defensive club they faced all season. They came in giving up an average of just 60 points a game, and played like it.
However, NCC came in giving up an average of only 58, and also played like it.
UWW gave up 4 points over their average, NCC, only 2.

Accordingly, it wasn't just lack of consistent perimeter shooting that was UWW's undoing. It was NCC"s tenacious overall defense that caused that lack of consistent perimeter shooting.

I sense if you asked UWW they would tell you that NCC likewise, was the toughest defensive club they faced this season.

Make no mistake, defense was the primary (with a huge assist to Brandon Williams) reason NCC won this game, and not many teams play defense better than the Cardinals.
