Greek Tragedy

Interesting to see previously that Trevor Hass did not make the top 3 teams in the West Region for D3hoops though...

Olson and Young made 3rd team.  D3hoops has positions as well.

So does Cross go first or Tillema?

Probably depends if a Pointer fan is picking first or not...

Greek - regarding fantasy pick, I'd have to go with Cross figuring you know what you're getting and his numbers should improve.  Tillema somewhat of a wild card - you know he'll be good, but not sure to what level.  Speaking from first hand experience, missing most of a year is difficult and the sooner you can get back to working out hard is crucial.  Also Tillema should have a real strong support cast next year and probably won't have to score as much.

Does anybody know of Tillema's current status?  Is he still rehabbing or is he on the court yet?  I saw him in February - no limp, no boot, no cast, etc.  He looked like he was moving pretty well.

Greek Tragedy

Well, only the Championship game is left to play, so it hurts even more that no WIAC team is playing for the Walnut and Bronze.

Even with another regular season WIAC championship and 2nd round appearance in the NCAAs, along with a 7th consecutive bid to the Big Dance, I can't help but be a little disappointed with this past season.  Call it arrogance, cockiness or expectations, but I was hoping for so much more.  How great would it have been to have Point or Whitewater or both teams make it to the Elite 8 and go out there and see SEVEN games in two days (6 games and the all-star game)?

Stevens Point had a great looking and tall recruiting class come in.  Lead by D1 transfer 6'8" Heuer, it looked like Stevens Point would have the post play needed to make a deep run.  Only half of the recruiting class made the cut for various reasons with Heuer, McGann, Patterson and Studer seeing time.  DeMyers quit after four appearances.

6'4" McGann played in 24 games averaging almost 11 minutes a game.  6'8" Patterson appeared in just 10 games and averaged 1.5 minutes.  6'7" Studer got in 17 games and averaged just over 9 minutes a game.  I do know that Studer injured himself, and I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) Patterson was also injured.  IMO, probably because of high expectations coming from a D1 school AND because of his size, I thought Heuer would do much better.  I guess 10.4 points and 5 boards a game isn't horrible, but I was hoping for more (maybe 14 and 6.5?).

The addition at the semester of DeVon Jackson really helped and I hope Van Handel (6'8") can get over the hump.  Forsythe (6'6") didn't play a minute all year.

Obviously we have a pretty solid team with Ryf, Tillema, Hass, Richard and Ritchay all coming back.  I just hope the big men can come in and get some quality minutes.  Already looking forward to next year.

Has the 2013-2014 schedule come out yet? LOL  ???  ;D  ;)

GT,

Haven't seen a schedule yet but word is the Pointers were set to join the D3 Hoops tourney in Vegas.  With that, the other non-conf games would be up in the air.

IF the dogs can avoid injuries they should have a nice team next year.  Tillema will be the big add but then bringing back Forsyth, Lutz and Studer won't hurt.  Heuer will be better with a summer to work on things and get a little stronger.  Need some more big help, especially if Studer's back doesn't respond.  Don't know what recruiting might bring in but a couple of nice 6-5 or better would be great along with a quick point guard.  We'll see what happens.  I too am waiting for October (or maybe the pig roast) to see what we have.

Yes, we are expecting UWSP at the D3hoops.com Classic in 2013! I have opponents in mind for them but we're not announcing teams until we have all the signed contracts.

Is it next year that all D3 games will count regardless of opponent, region or mileage, etc.?

Pat Coleman

Correct, all D-III games will be considered in the primary criteria provided they are full members of D-III (or third- or fourth-year provisionals) and provided a program plays 70% of its schedule against regional opponents.
