BW--I checked Jack's stats from last year. He played in only 6 games w/40 total minutes.

An interesting sidelight:  I was told by a reliable source that Rick Bowen told Jeff Berkhof not to scout him when he was a senior at RFHS because he would not make it at UWRF. One thing for sure:  there is not a better person on the Warhawk squad than Jack Herum. He's a great kid from a great family.

Agree completely.  He's a good kid and so is the family.

Looks like Bowen missed on that one. But I will say this, Berkhof is smart enough to at least check on a kid in his own back yard. Maybe kid had no interest in staying in same town, but my guess is RF checked, knew they wouldn't get a legit look and didn't waste their time. Ask any college coach,  yes is the best answer and no is second best so time is not wasted.

Pville will definitely do damage in the WIAC - only down 7 at the half.  From the box score, looked like Gerber played pretty well.  Only concern for the Pioneers would be their depth if a key guy went down.

See the smiley face....I was kidding.  Sorry I got you so lathered up.

Speaking of silly...

We may get a glimse into whether the talk about Stout is silly or not.

They have an exhibition against Winona State on Monday.

Looking forward to reading TomT's report on the Point/MTU scrimmage from today as well.

First off, the way the scrimmage was set up, both teams didn't play more than 10 guys the first 2 20 minutes periods...basically played out like a real game would be.  Scores were 41-27 Point win, 47-40 MTU win, and the reserves/freshman 29-25 Point win.  Very good sign that our top 10ish beat their top 10ish.

Roster
Tyler Tillema, Clayton Heuer, Trevor Hass, Austin Ryf, Alex Richard, Joe Ritchay, Jordan Lutz, Stephen Pelkofer, Tyler Forsythe, Bill Patterson, Brad Freeborn, Caden Unteidt, Aaron Retzlaff, Jared Gjertson, Sean McGann.

Starting 5 for the first 2 halves....Tillema, Ryf, Richard, Hass and Heuer....believe it or not, they had more size than MTU's starting 5 did.  Reserves for the first 2 periods included Pelkofer, Ritchay, Lutz and a little bit of Forsythe.

Tillema is back to his normal self.  He missed some shots I think he normally makes but he is healthy.  He was able to get to the hole.  Hass was the star today.  Easily the high scorer but it was hard to keep track as there was no score taken.  I had to take it in my head.  He had to hit atleast 6 threes.  Pelkofer is really going to help this team.  He gives us more than DeVon Jackson gave us offensively atleast.  Heuer has improved.  He looked like he moves better and posted up hard.  Richard has improved as well.  He is more aggressive with the ball and will take good shots.  Ryf was solid.  He took care of the ball, played great defense on Armga and hit some open shots.  Pelkofer was the sixth man with Lutz being the first big off the bench.  McGann played solid as well.  He was all over the loose balls and didn't force anything.

The only disappointment I saw was Ritchay.  Honestly, he was dreadful today.  He looked a step slow in every instance and missed quite a few wide open shots while turning the ball over a few times as well.  I've never seen him play worse.

Things I was impressed with...Point's rotation on defense, this team gets after it on that end of the floor.  They are sound and a lot quicker than I gave them credit for.  Their rebounding was ridiculous for a team that was not that big.  They boxed out better than any Point team i've seen in years prior.

In the 3rd 20 minute period, guys that played included Patterson, Unteidt, Freeborn, Gjertson and Forsythe starting...along with Retzlaff off the bench.  They started off slow but really looked to get comfortable as the period went on.  Patterson is very athletic, didn't realize that until watching him in warmups today.  He could be an emergency post if someone gets in foul trouble.  Most impressive of this last period was Unteidt and Freeborn.  Freeborn was scrappy, got to the hoop and fouled a couple times, played great D and played smart.  I was very impressed with him.  Unteidt showed he can hit open shots and was able to get to the hole with ease.  These two look to be the most impressive freshman.

One thing I was concerned with after watching this scrimmage is free throw shooting.  They missed quite a bit on the day.  This is alarming to me with how the scrimmage was called.  The refs were extremely quick with the whissles.  For example, Point had 6 fouls before 2 and a half minutes ran out of both the first and second halves.  I remember multiple times where players were called for fouls where they didn't touch an opposing man.  I really hope officials open it up a little for the regular season.

These are basically my thoughts about the scrimmage, but if anyone has any exact questions...feel free to ask...I felt like I was kind of rambling on without a direction this post....so like I said, a question you want an opinion on, feel free to ask.

I thought Jack had a pretty decent scrimmage.  He is definitely playing better than he did last year and I can see him getting more minutes this year.  If he continues to develop I don't see any reason that he wouldn't be able to play in this league.

Yeah, I noticed their lack of height. I think the tallest numbered player was 6'5". There are two guys, I think, that are 6'6" and 6'8", but they don't have an assigned numbers ("grey shirting"?)

Zemanovic will wear jersey #50.  Patten won't be eligible until second semester.  Fischer is out for the year (injury).

I wasn't trying to be a smartass or anything. I read these two quotes as contradicting each other.

One says he's not good enough to make the Falcons' team and the other was that he was too good for the River Falls' squad and they would have no shot at getting him. I didn't grade well in English glass, so I could be completely misunderstanding this.
