Trevor Hass now 10-10 from beyond the 3 pt line on the season. Point has to be disappointed in scoring only 80 points, Jack Taylor would have beaten them by 29 all by himself :P :P

UWSP ain't Cornerstone or Faith Baptist! ;D

Jack Taylor is obviously good, but I ain't impressed with big numbers against obviously over-matched teams.

(NOT a criticism of Jack Taylor, who was only doing what the coach ordered.  A criticism of the 'sportsmanship' of Coach Arsenault, who seems to think that getting huge numbers for a single player [which seems to me to be a bastardization of The System] against an obviously over-matched team is somehow a good thing.)
Funny thing is Taylor was at La Crosse as a freshman, came off the bench and averaged about 7 point a game in less than 14 minutes a game...

Another thing that will slow down games is the media timeouts.  In our women's scrimmage with Augustana there were eight media timeouts rather than the four that we used last year.  Media timeouts occurred at the first dead ball after 16, 12, 8 and 4 minutes of each half.  I was told that it was the way they were going to work this year.  So if teams used all their allowed timeouts you would have 18 timeouts in a game.

Yes, the WIAC went to full TV rules for all games. I guess to mimic NCAA Tournament games. It seems pretty excessive to me.

JB...

Just wondering, what do you mean - full TV rules? Do you mean "media timeouts?

The WARHAWKS opened the home portion of the season with a convincing 106-70 win over Concordia.  After the game was tied 1-1 the WARHAWKS lead reached double figures within the first three minutes of play and just grew after that.  The lead reached a first half high at thirty-four points, 59-25, at the half.  Shooting 64% from the floor the WARHAWKS were led in scoring by Steve Egan's 15 points.  Concordia never got closer than the final score in the second half.   Egan finished with a game high 20 points to lead four WARHAWKS double figures.  KJ Evans (15 points), Reggie Hearn (11 points) and Cody Odegaard (11 points) rounded out the four.  Evans finished with a game high 8 rebounds and Egan added 7 for the WARHAWKS who out rebounded the Falcons 46-30.  Quardell Young had a game high 5 assists for the WARHAWKS

Seventy free throws were shot on forty-eight fouls as the officials were definitely calling the game tighter.

Yes, that was the topic I was quoting. The WIAC has used media timeouts for years, but they had used a "two-per-half" model. Now, they are expanding to the "four-per-half" model that is used in all televised games, virtually all D-I games, and NCAA Tournament games.

3 games in and Stout has a respectable 2-1 record with its lone loss in OT. Now that I have said their record is respectable, I will not say the same about their wins. With the two wins coming against less than mediocre competition in the forms of Crown College and Bethel. Stout was losing by 3 at half and only pulled out a 6 point victory against a Crown team they beat by 40+ (twice) just a couple years ago. I hope the next few games are better competition and give me, and everyone else, a better look at what this team might accomplish this year in the WIAC.

After seeing a game and looking at box scores they have some pretty good pieces to the puzzle it seems like. Whitehead seems to be a great addition and fills up the box score in an efficient manner. Oman seems to be the same old Oman. Jenny is going to be difference maker all season long and will make this team go. His effort on the defensive and offensive ends are incredible and he plays intelligently. The biggest question mark on this team is transfer Phil Freeman. He doesnt seem to do many positive things on the floor and has an assist/TO ration is zero..... yes ZERO!

04 Freeman, Phil......  3-3    68 22.7   7-22   .318   2-9    .222   6-12   .500    2   6    8  2.7   9  1   0  10   0   2   22  7.3

That's 10 TO's to 0 assists, leading the team in fouls, 50% from the FT line, 31% from the field, and only 2 rbs. I do not see very much upside to what this kid can bring. I understand 3 games (and the 2 exb games were not impressive either) is a small sample size, but definitely not a good start. With the team they have I believe they should go bigger most of the time with Oman, Whitehead, Jenny, Wadzinski, Ragland (when healthy), Higgins, and Kosloski. Obviously you have to play more than just these 7 guys, but don't press the issue of players you want to be good and play when they clearly cant hold up to the competition.

Whats wrong with Ragland?

He broke a bone in his foot I believe. He was sitting on the bench last night in street clothes.

Oshkosh lost to St. Norbert's in De Pere tonight by about 10.  But they played them tough and I was impressed by the defensive intensity for the Titans.  Need a little more offense, but liked the D.

Contrary to what you think, the Titans defense was horrible and couldn't stop the Green Knights' free throw shooting. They were 22 for 22 from the line!  >:(  :P  ;)

Seriously though, good showing by Oshkosh. Article said Oshkosh has 10 freshman. Wow!

Yup 2 broken bones in his foot. Some talk abouttaking a redshirt if the healing process will take too long. Thats just a rumor so far though.

Does anyone know if Giovanni Bray left the Warhawk program??  He isn't listed on the roster anymore.  Warhawks are very deep in the backcourt but I was still surprised hasn't found many minutes at all early in the season.

fredfalcon

No discussion of RF vs UST on either board. Falcons may surprise. They are better than I said they were in the scrimmage vs. Hamline. They lost to Wittenberg by 7, a team which pushed Wheaton to o.t. before losing. Won't say any more until I see them tomorrow night.
