It should be interesting to see how Whitewater and Point do against Hope.

Greek Tragedy

Hope has a tough schedule to open their season, not even playing any cupcakes to kick off 2013. They travel to Whitewater and Point on back to back nights.

Hope hung tough with Whitewater last night. From the article, it was close virtually the whole game as  the Warhawks pulled away near the end. It'll be a tough go to have to travel up I-39 and play tonight at Quandt. Wish I could be there.

Whitewater recorded the only WIAC win last night, getting past Hope.

Eau Claire fell at Bethel 74-67 and Superior dropped one at Augsburg 80-73

It was a very good game last night between Whitewater and Hope. Whitewater had a little more depth and eventually wore down Hope a little and pulled away at the end. I was very impressed with Hope. I think they are definitely a top 25 team. They may start out the season 0-2 but I believe they will climb into the top 25 shortly.

Jackets got 2 pts. from their bench in loss to Augsburg. Peterson got 32 for Superior.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Don't wanna argue with a newbie...welcome, by the way. But, the boxscore would suggest otherwise. Hope's top 3 bench players played 15, 18, and 23 minutes. Whitewater's played 10, 18 and 23. Pretty even. Bench scoring slightly favored Hope. Regardless, should be a great game at Point!

Thanks for the welcome Greek. You are correct - I probably shouldn't have said depth; however, Whitewater did wear them down. Hope's top scorer had to sit towards the end of the game due to cramping.

Depth doesn't always equate to points. If WW was able to put in substitutions where the quality of play didn't decrease (say, in taking care of the ball, rebounding, and defense) then there wouldn't be a drop off, even if those guys didn't score.

In contrast, if Hope's subs had a drop off (or if Hope didn't have as many subs) then it meant more minutes for the starters... and thus they'd get tired quicker.

I had hoped to see that game last night but I got home late from basketball practice, then I was nursing my knee....

Coaching tip... when you're 32 (and a center) it probably isn't a great idea to be running as the point guard against your middle school players (and probably not a great idea to try to split two defenders and do a reverse dribble between your legs.

For the record, I got fouled and if I hadn't been fouled, I would have split the aforementioned defenders... but as it is right now, my knee's all swollen and it hurts a bit.

But, anyway, didn't get a chance to watch it like I'd hoped!

Should be a good one tonight from the looks of it!

So, 6'9" Mr. Gleich got schooled by a couple of middle-schoolers? If Shaq can do it, you should be able to! Yeah, yeah...you got fouled. Did you shoot your one-and-one?

I got tripped and landed on my knee... scraped them both up, my right one was about 3x the size of the left one.

Ice and ibuprofen have helped some... but it's still pretty swollen.

I let somebody else shoot the free throws  ;)

The WARHAWKS got a nice win 83-70 over Hope.  Hope scored the first basket but the WARHAWKS quickly got a lead and held it through the entire half.   For the most part the lead was never more than six points until about three minutes remained in the first half and the WARHAWKS made a run to take it to eleven points 42-31.  However Hope finished the last minute and half with a run of their own cutting the deficit to six, 42-36 at the half.  The lead ranged from a single point to a high of seven points for the first twelve minutes of the second half until Hope took their second lead of the game,  61-60.  That was when the WARHAWKS made their second run of the night a 18-5 spurt over the next seven minutes that put the game away.

Despite being the shorter of the two teams the WARHAWKS controlled the boards 41-30 leading to a 44-36 advantage on paint points and 16-9 advantage in second chance points.  KJ Evans had a game high 11 rebounds.  Eric Bryson led the WARHAWKS with 19 points.  Quardell Young and Evans had 16 points apiece and Reggie Hearn added 12 points.  Young had a game high 4 assists.

It looks like Whitewater did a good job of wearing down Hope last night so Stevens Point could take advantage of it. ;)

Tyler Tillema had one of his best games as a pointer this evening just had unbelievable body control and made everything look so easy.  Created some easy baskets for his teammates as well I have a hard time seeing him not being one of top 10 players in country.  Alex Richard also played some tremendous defense and had what I thought was a sequence in the game that broke it open.  Had two offensive rebounds in a row and the second one led to him getting a layup and free throw for 3 point play.  His work ethic on the floor reminds me so much of when nick krull played.  It's early but this point team really looks good only concern I would have is lack of overall size which I believe they can overcome with their backcourt play.  Can't wait for whitewater and st Thomas games

I think definitely so... It's tough playing back-to-back nights, especially on the road, especially against ranked opponents, especially against a team who has already played 2 games.

Yesterday was Hope's first game. Some of the biggest improvement happens between game 1 and game 2.... but when you have less than 24 hours between games, with 8 of those being sleep hours and 4 of them being transit time from WW to SP, it's hard to make any significant adjustments.

RF loses 75-69 to UST after leading 40-29 at half. Falcons played a very good first half, a sub-par second half. Tommies held Falcons to 29 pts. second half. Scoring totals (unofficial, of course):  White had 19, Erickson 10, 9 each for Smith and Berthene.

Nord (14) and Riedeman (19) led UST scoring. UST had 39-22 rebound edge.
