I attended the LaCrosse at Oshkosh game tonight at Kolf.

Sorry to ask for something I know won't happen,  but the end of this game was incredibly disappointing.

I feel the WIAC should watch the tape on this one and get rid of the ref (NOW) who gave Oshkosh Coach Juckem a T at a key time in the game after same said ref 1) missed a call on the offensive end and then 2) called an inexplicable intentional foul on Royston in front of the LaCrosse bench.  It had a huge impact on the outcome.

If he is too big a wimp to talk to a coach about the basis for such a ridiculous stretch of calls, he should be out.  >:(

I know this sounds like sour grapes but I have seen that guy treat coaches like **** in the Midwest Conference as well.

There are plenty of refs who make mistakes, but most of them are man enough to communicate with the coaches.  >:(

Luke Tweed is a shooting stud.  Someone might need him in the NBA.  Wow:o

IMO, I think Whitewater in general talks a lot, starting with Miller.

BTW, what was that commotion in the 2nd half when the ref basically told two players to quit talking. One of the players was ours, the guy on the bench in the suit with the pink tie. The other was a Warhark player, I believe. Swampgoon, Mrs. Swampgoon and I believe there was trash talking about the Pointer player's tie not matching his dress shoes, but that's speculation.  ??? :-*

Pink tie guy is assistant coach Brandt Bailey and he got into the middle of a disagreement between Alex Richard and Reggie Hearn. Bailey apparently was talking to Hearn, which the ref would have none of.

I'm surprised nobody has brought up Eric Bryson from last night's game.  He trips Ryf and gets an intentional foul on top of talking back to the officials and getting a technical foul.  From video I couldn't tell for sure if the trip was intentional but it did look bad.  The technical made me laugh, Bryson gets called for a foul and basically couldn't believe it....He walks from the half court line with the ref basically following him all the way to the free throw line.  I imagine Bryson was talking under his breath and the ref T's him up.

Definitely an intentional trip. I sit about 30 feet from where it occurred and you could see him kick his leg out as Ryf sped by, dropping him to the floor. I was hoping he would get tossed, as a move like that could easily injure the opposing player.

That's classless out of Eric Bryson then...that happened right in front of the WW bench and I didn't see Miller or anyone even react to what happened.  It was like they didn't even care what Bryson did.

Let's not take this too far gents... Pat Miller is a class act and he runs his program in a classy way. I'm sure he and his team were frustrated by the way that the game played out, especially because this really puts Whitewater in a tough hole.

It's not unprecedented for a team to start the year 0-2 and still get a piece of the conference title... Stevens Point did it in 01-02.... losing to Whitewater and Stout to open the WIAC season and Point went 11-3 the rest of the year... and tied with Whitewater and Oshkosh on top of the league at 11-5.

I have no quarrels with this statement at all, but deliberately tripping an opponent running down the court is to me more egregious than a hard foul in the heat of a game.  I'm sure he regrets the act and how it reflects on the team, but you would expect more of a senior leader who is a 3 year starter and 4 year member of the program.

I can understand why Pat wouldn't berate a player in public.  To assume it means he didn't care is off base.  He and Eric have spoken about it.  Pat doesn't coach that kind of play and doesn't approve of it either.   Eric, as frustrated as he may be, needs to control his emotions.  This is the first incident of this sort in which Eric has been involved.  He's  a hard nose competitor but not a dirty player.  I think his frustration and impulses got the best of him this time.  He was appropriately penalized and fortunately, despite the possibility, no one was injured.

Congrats on the win.  When you play like we did for half of a game you won't beat a team as good as the Pointers.  You guys have our number.  Maybe next time. shrug

I couldn't see the play on the video very well, but there's a difference between egregiously trying to hurt someone and intentionally fouling them.

In the heat and emotion of a game, I've been pushed, punched, scratched, tripped, had balls thrown at my head, etc etc... by teammates, good friends, and opponents alike who were caught up in the emotion of the game or practice and let it get the better of them.  These acts would be deemed intentional (but the offending party usually felt pretty bad when they had their wits about them)

I've also played against guys who cheap shot you and are trying to hurt you (undercutting a layup or rebound, for example).  These guys were... best described by various 4-letter words.

The players from Whitewater are good kids. These are the same kids playing elsewhere in the WIAC, with a few exceptions... some of them have "gone astray" a bit in the past, but Pat Miller has done a wonderful job giving them a second chance. I think this commitment to these types of players is quite laudible as has been mentioned in the past and I feel like this instance was just a situation where his emotions got the best of him.

Points athletic director is  a top 4 candidate for a d1 job.  Anyone know what school I can't find where I read it today?  Perhaps pointer baseball coach pat bloom will finally get his chance.

Thanks I'm hoping he sticks around but it would make sense to hire bloom if he gets the job.  It was nice to have the stability that frank obrien brought to point and bloom could do the same.

New poll is out.

http://d3hoops.com/top25/index

Point adds 7 points to last weeks 611 points. They also gain 10 points on Wooster, while  stealing 3 first place votes from them.

After losing to Point, Whitewater drops 4 spots and 74 points to 12th.

I hope Stout enjoyed their stay. They jumped into the poll to 19th after topping Whitewater. 3 days later, they lost to River Falls, resulting in a 101 point drop and out of the Top 25, barely. They are 26th with 50 points.

Platteville got some love even after losing to Carthage in double overtime.  They are only 608 points behind the Pointers with 10 points.
