Augsburg led once early in the game.  But it stayed close and  10-2 run to close out the first half gave the WARHAWKS a 47-38 lead at the half.  The lead fluctuated but stayed in single digits through most of the second half.  Augusburg would pull to within one or two points multiple times but each time the WARHAWKS would respond with a run to built the lead back up.  The high was 11 points.  Augusburg got within five points late in the half but the WARHAWKS scored eight of their last ten from the charity stripe to gain the win.

The WARHAWKS shot 61% in the first half and 55% for the game.  Augsburg shot 63% in the second half and 59% for the game.  Augsburg sank 9 three-pointers to the WARHAWKS pair but the WARHAWKS were 21-28 to Augsburg's 14-20 from the free throw line.

Reggie Hearn: 16 points, 8 rebounds
Eric Bryson: 16 points, 8-10 free throws
Steve Egan: 15 points, 6 rebounds
Quardell Young: 14 points, 5 assists, 2 steals
KJ Evans: 14 points, 5 rebounds

The WARHAWKS are off til 12/30 when we'll host Edgewood.

Pointers eased by St Thomas 75-62.  Tillema led 5 Pointers in double figures with 21.  It was a 20 point game when the Tommies hit a few treys to make the final more respectable.  Pointers hit 16-19 free throws to shore up what has been one of their few weaknesses to this point.  Semling has to be pleased with post finals performance before heading to Las Vegas.

Greek Tragedy

Reggie Hearn also had 5 turnovers and missed 5 free throws. Thats doesn't help his fantasy stat line! At least this nonconference game didn't count in fantasy basketball land!  >:( ;D

Pointers down at the half to Whitworth 45 - 43.  Not playing good defense, and missing a ton of free throws.

Point down at the half to Whitworth, 45-43...Whitworth hit a 3 in the final seconds to get the lead back at the half after having a 7-8 point lead most of the first 20 minutes.  Point's defense is what is failing them, they have looked atrocious on that side of the ball.  They aren't shooting as well as they have the whole season either.

tomt4525

Point's depth prevails....win 91-75....Tillema was unreal as usual, ended with 35 I think...Whitworth had 3 players foul out and that really hurt them down the stretch.  They also missed a lot of free throws in the second half which proved costly to them keeping the game closer.  It was a closer game than a 16 point win though.

SgtPaul

Pointers defense was better in the second half but poor free throw shooting very well may cost them at some point.  Pointers hit more threes in the second half, adjusting to the more open shooting background, I guess.

What the hell is with Stout.  Some games they look unbeatable and then they lose to Millikin.

Very hard to believe Stout would lose to Millikin who earlier in the season lost to perennial power Principia.  Did review the box score which had Stout committing 28 turnovers, hard to beat anyone coughing it up that much.  Don't know what's up with Oman who didn't start, played just 16 minutes and scored 4 points.  He's had a very inconsistent season to date - I thought he'd be one of the top players  in the WIAC this year and it just hasn't happened yet.  I do recall him being injured earlier and that's probably a major factor.

Based on what I've seen lately either live or via video streams, I don't see anybody in the WIAC beating Point.

Goodness this looks like it was an ugly game...

Stout actually shot better, 18/40 (45%) vs 22/55 (40%) for Millikin. But Stout had 28 turnovers and only 12 of them were steals for Millikin. Does that mean there were 16 unforced errors? I guess a team can force a turnover without it becoming a steal but... goodness.

Millikin was no world beater either. They turned the ball over 17 times themselves (for those keeping track at home, that's 45 turnovers). There were 42 fouls which led to 61 free throw attempts... but both teams combined for just 35 (again, for those keeping track at home, that's 26 missed FTs).

Point was in a foul-fest in Vegas as well... there were 54 fouls in that one, which led to 39 FTs for SP and 40 FT's for Whitworth. 79 free throws in a 40 minute game...

I almost wonder if all of the misses are due to boredom... or fatigue. The length of the games are certainly stretched out when you have two free throws per minute for the ENTIRE game.

Either way, SP definitely had their hands full in the first half. Whitworth appeared to play about as well as they could and stretched the lead to 8 with 8:03 left in the first half (31-23). Stevens Point ended the half on a 20-12 run and outscored the Pirates by 20 in the second frame, 50-30.  That's a 70-43 run in the final 28 minutes after being outplayed in the first 12 minutes.

Basically, Whitworth was on pace to score 103 at the 8 minute mark in the  first half. They were on pace for 51 at the half and almost got there. But Point definitely turned up the pace... they were on pace for just 38 at the half and 76 in the game but managed to greatly increase the pace, even despite missing 12 more free throws the rest of the way out.

Perhaps most impressive to me was the fact that Point turned it over just 4 times in the whole game.
