Any word on Max Schebel from Oshkosh? He's been MIA the last two games.

I hope Oman and Whitehead are good to go Saturday. Games against Eau Claire are always a fun environment and it's a game I'll finally be able to attend. I would like to see the full lineup of Stout and get a good idea of what to expect from this team the rest of the season.

Trevor Hass AND Tyler Tillema both on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week.

I was actually wondering after last night's game if two guys from the same team had ever been on the TOW together before... but if two teammates deserved it, these two guys certainly did.

In three games (and these were three games in four days, including a plane flight back to Chicago from Vegas) Hass scored 20, 40 (tying the school record), and 21 (81 pts total) in the victories. Tillema scored 30, 25, and 33 (88 pts total). Ty also had 5 assists in each game and had 17 rebounds over the three games.

Two of the most amazing three game stretches I've ever seen... and they happened in the same three game stretch.

It will be interesting to see if both are selected as the conference's players of the week.

Typically, schools can only nominate 1 player, so that probably can't happen.

Despite being 0-2 and behind two 3-0 teams, I feel confident Whitewater still finishes no worse than 2nd place.

Greek - I usually concur with the points you make and I'm down for the Warhawks finishing 2nd.  Stout is very inconsistent and LAX will have trouble scoring against the better squads in the WIAC.  Hard to figure Platteville at this point.

The bottom four will most likely only beat each other, similar to last year as the league again is very top heavy.

Greek Tragedy

Those two losses to St. Olaf and Buena Vista are really gonna hurt at the end of February (wow, I'm talking Pool C already). Though not cupcakes (the Oles played well against Point), Platteville has to beat teams like them. Losses to Whitworth (perennial NWC power) and Carthage (they beat Wash. U. but still only 4th or 5th best in CCIW) could be accepted. Platteville may be 3-0, but have only played the so-called bottom feeders in the league. Even if the Pioneers go 12-4 in the WIAC, plus a conference tourney loss, thats 9 losses.

Is it next year when the CCIW and WIAC will both be in the newly formed Central Region?

So, d-mac,

Why did the Whitman coach blow up and get two techs after Tillema's layup in OT?

Also, Platteville getting outrebounded 39-20? Ouch!

Sorry for the delay... been tied up catching up and dealing with a sinus cold since I got back.

Coach Bridgeland didn't like the no-call prior to the Tillema layup. He thought his player, Duckworth, had been fouled on a eight-foot, baseline shot attempt in front of their bench. I talked to the refs after the game and the one closest to this no-call said he saw the ball going down and the hands going up - indicating no contact with the arms or wrist thus no foul. Bridgeland than apparently dropped two "bonus" words as they were coming down the court - to the same official. The words started with f and b and where back-to-back. That earned him the first T. I didn't see that whistle, but when I turned my head I saw Bridgeland 15-plus feet from his bench in the ear of the official and one of his partners going ballistic. I didn't need to know what the first whistle was to see he had earned a T and I knew instantly he was going to earn the second T. Talking to the officials about all of that afterward... he said this was the second and third technical foul he has called (probably on a head coach - as in-game stuff is more common) in his 15 years of officiating. In other words, I think he gives coaches a long leash which Coach Bridgeland used up (he had been warned at least once during the game).

Greek - I'd be shocked if Pville only lost 4 games in the WIAC, I see more like 6.  I thought they'd be better than last year when the only loss out of the starting lineup was Stallion.  His scoring is definitely replaceable - it's quite possible they miss his energy and leadership.  That guy was always jacked pumped up to play
.
Talked to a college coach last week who has already played them who also said he has a hard time figuring them out.

Good luck in the fantasy league tomorrow.

Greek Tragedy

I only used 12-4 for Platteville to get them under 10 losses for the season. I don't think they'll finish 12-4 either, actually.

To make matters worse, Platteville's win over Indiana Dabney doesn't count in the selection criteria since they aren't D3. Conversely, La Crosse's loss to loss to SW Minn. St. doesn't hurt them for the same reason. Of course, La Crosse loses wins against Indiana Dabney and Viterbo as well.

Point gets a gritty win over a La Crosse squad 74-61.

If you head over to the CCIW page, the last few pages they have been discussing the lack of talent between everyone else besides Tillema and Hass on UWSP.  The people that just watch a couple games a year of Point don't realize the little things that Richard, Lutz, Ryf, Ritchay and Pelkofer do every game to help Point win.  Heuer played so much better today as well.  So, with that said it was nice for them to get a team win over UWLX with 4 players in double figures.  Tillema with 18, Hass with 16, Richard and Ryf with 10 a piece.  Heuer on the cusp of a double-double, I hope he plays this well the rest of the season.  Ritchay played great defense today, getting a few steals.

IWU vs UW-Stevens Point would be a great matchup.  I don't see much separation at all there - not sure there is any.

Two very different teams:

* IWU always seems to have 5 equal parts on the floor at any given time, with shots coming from basically any player at any time.  Stevens Point is led by two perimeter players - 6-3 PG Tyler Tillema (24.4 ppg) and 6-4 SG Trevor Hass (19.5 ppg, 38-69 3-point, .551).  Tillema has to be the best PG in D3, and Hass might be the best 3-point shooter.  That said, IWU has several players capable of getting hot and turning in a dominant performance...and Stevens Point always has 5 really good basketball players who can score on the floor at all times.

* IWU has much more inside presence than the Pointers.  Even though UWSP has 6-8/235 Clayton Heuer (6.7 ppg), a transfer from D1 UW-Green Bay, their offense doesn't revolve around getting him the ball.  The Pointers are not an "inside-out" team.  The Titans commit to getting the ball inside much more, and score a lot of traditional low post baskets between  6-10 Nick Anderson, 6-5 Victor Davis, and 6-5 Andrew Ziemnik.  Just very different offensive approaches.  I do think UWSP would have some trouble containing IWU down low over the course of a 40-minute game.  The Pointers do a really nice job of posting up Tillema on occasion - he is often bigger than his defender.  He has a nice post up game.

IWU and Stevens Point on a neutral court is a "pick 'em" for me.  Seems like we're on a collision course for this game at some point.

I just went back and read all of the UWSP-related comments on the CCIW board.  By saying "they have been discussing the lack of talent between everyone else besides Tillema and Hass on UWSP", you are really misrepresenting the posts on this topic.

The points made over there were basically:

* Tyler Tillema is one of the best players in Division III

* Trevor Hass is a great #2 man and one of the best shooters in Division III

* UWSP does not have a very impressive low post game, and is not an "inside-out" team.  The Pointers are a perimeter-oriented team.

No one said the players outside of Tillema and Hass are not talented.
