Yes they did!!

Anyway, Stoutfan1 came up with a good description of the game. Neither team was able to develop an offensive rythym due to the defenses played. Point was a little soft in the opening half on D and came out more determined in the second. Stout threw up some shots at the last second that somehow went in and had SP fans shaking their collective heads. The reffing was very uneven, putting your hand out was called several times, but pushing off with your forearm was not. Kosloske was very physical, pushing Heuer into a Stout player causing a foul and also pushing Tillema down during a rebounding scrum. Both occured in front of officials who missed the calls. The refs were sort of consistent as they missed a call or two against SP as well :P

Point did not play as strong physically as Stout inside and I was surprised that the rebound battle was even. Heuer played OK defensively, but still only had 2 pts and 2 boards in 25 minutes of action. Stout collapsed well on defense inside and also stepped out on screens up top and ball handlers were unable to get around clean or get a pass over the top. Tillema was unable to get to the basket often on drives. but did get several short jumpers to fall. His shot is so soft that I occasionally think it's going to stick on the rim one of these times.  I don't know if McGann was injured/sick or it was coaches decision, but he never got in the game after averaging 10+ minutes prior to this game.

I've seen every Point game now either in person or on the net and this is the best anyone has played defense against them (refs not withstanding). Hats off to the Blue Devils for their effort even though they were shorthanded with injuries.

I was wondering about McGann myself.  He is a very heady players who seems to always be in the right spot so he's a valuable guy coming off the bench.  The fact he didn't play a second on Wednesday was shocking to me, atleast if he was healthy anyways.

I discussed the officiating with some of my Stout friends, and we all agreed that it was pretty one sided.  The officials repeatedly bailed out Stout in the last 5 minutes when they drove to the hoop.  From my vantage point there were atleast 3 bail out calls that looked to me like really good defense.  I don't think Stevens Point played badly but maybe Stout is just a bad matchup for this Pointers team.

Last point about the officiating that sums it up for me.  Semling barely ever even talks to the officials, during the media timeout with 4 minutes left in the game, he was in their face yelling at them....that tells me everything I need to know.

RedHotFalcon

I"ve seen a lot of Point games. Let's say if things are going good, Semling is not saying much. If things are not going so good, Semling certainly is vocal.

I've been in every WIAC gym on multiple occasions following my squad - Stout's officiating was easily the worst with so many missed calls specifically on players absorbing contact while shooting.  Not sure why this happens at Stout, becasuse don't the same group of officials just move from gym to gym within the conference?

Two out of the three I've never seen call a game before against Point. And yeah they weren't so good.

So to sum up these last several posts: Stout got all the calls and that is why the game stayed close, and Bob Semling hardly ever talks to officials.  Right.   :-[

Stout plays certain way... It's a bit more physical, scrappy... they always play hard and make you do certain things you may not be comfortable doing. It can be difficult to officiate, though,  because sometimes the scrappiness makes the ref swallow his whistle so as to not blow it on every play.

But, truly, there isn't a foul on every play, so even though there are some fouls, they do go uncalled occasionally because a player just made a similar play without the foul. That's why it's tough.

Did you watch the game??  Cuz if you did and don't want to admit that Stout got some major calls down the stretch to keep them in the game then I don't know what to tell you besides you're being extremely biased.  Regards to Semling, I've seen every second of every game this year and this is the first time he has raised his voice in a face to face conversation with officials this season.  He is an extremely calm coach who spends most of every game standing up with his hands in his pockets.

I played in the WIAC and I have never been in a more biased arena than Stevens Point when it came to officials. But I will say they always had the best fans at crying too.   :P ::) ;D

Stout:16
Platteville: 27

Stout can not do anything offensively....... end of story. Platteville out hustling the devils and goes into halftime with the lead. Disappointing game to watch so far especially after a great performance Wednesday against Point.
