On a side note... LaX Eagles, your buddy Shawn Lee came in and played a few nice minutes in the first half, providing a defensive spark, and absolutely crossing up one of the Platteville defenders.  He came in in the second half and had some trouble with the press (as Point did much of the night... the Pointers had 14 turnovers, and I'd say at least half of those were against the press or the zone that Platteville threw at Point).

.

if he gets healthy this team has a bright bright future.  with el-amin an dhim at the point it will be tough for the rest of the conference to keep up with that quickness

Forget the tape. Everyone saw the foul on the LX player

It should never have come down to that one foul.  Oshkosh underachieved consistently this year and they lost.  They lost way too much this year.   They should have been playing EC, not the 4/5 game.

17-9, what a POS record that is for a team with this kind of talent.   :P

I don't know if I'll ever go to another game after this steamer of a season.

Unfortunately, from reading a newspaper article a month or so ago, it seems that Gibbons will have the position for as long as he would like it.  The 2nd year AD said that he supports Gibbons 100% and that his job is secure.  The article then went into how tough it is for Gibbons now that he is playing with NCAA D3 rules instead of NAIA rules.  I do not understand this concept that was presented.  EC is playing against other NCAA D3 teams that are playing under the same NCAA D3 rules.  Now if they were playing against NAIA teams, then it would be a different story.  But the fact remians they are playing NCAA D3 teams, not NAIA.

Gibbons has fooled the EC community with all of his excuses throughout the last few years.  However, the community is starting to see through him.  There has been less and less attendance the last couple of years and there has been some negative mumblings throughout the EC fan base.  Hopefully the AD will look at this objectively, but I have my doubts.

On the other hand, I have to give props to this years EC team.  Even though they had less talent, the players played their butts off and gave incredible effort.

If you're aren't going to be there, I'm sure UWO will just disband their basketball program altogether just like Eau Claire and River Falls did with their baseball teams. ::)

Try Quandt Fieldhouse.  That's a great place to see a game.  ;)

This week's regional rankings are out.

West
1 Wisconsin-Stout 16-4 19-5
2 Puget Sound 15-2 20-4
3 Carleton 17-4 20-5
4 Occidental 11-3 18-4
5 Wisconsin-Whitewater 15-5 19-5
6 Wisconsin-La Crosse 17-6 19-6
7 Wartburg 17-4 19-5
8 St. Thomas (Minnesota) 18-5 20-5

Well, I'm not sure what Carleton did that was so special that they jump so high.  Like Whitewater, they also won two games (Whitewater had two road wins, Carleton one).

Funny, rat, even I got that one.

Quandt, that is a rathole.   But it seems to fulfill UW-SP's needs......

Good luck to the other WIAC teams the rest of the way, unless you play Lawrence.  then you need more than luck.  As you know I am not a bandwagon jumper there.

Especially best wishes to the boys from Stout, BDB and Stoutguy, you guys are a class act.

Maybe I'll return in 2006/2007, here are the canned responses, just pick a number:

1) Good riddance,
2) I hope you'll reconsider and stay away,
3) Lets see if LU can outlast the WIAC in the NCAA tourney
4)  ;D

Random thoughts:

As much as I enjoy badgerwarhawk's comments and insights, his recent recap of the 'Golds/Hawks game was painful to read, seeings I'm a Blugold who's taking those painful lumps.  ;) A long season has come to an end with an expected drubbing by the Hawks... As I posted prior to the game, I didn't think the 'Golds wouldn't have anything left in the tank going into the tourney rematch, after the thrilling Double OT game on Saturday...

Just to stir up troubles again, since I noted technicals and fouls earlier this year - ha - An Oshkosh player sets a tournament record for FTs shot and made? And La Crosse's Joe Werner gets two technical fouls??? Hummm... It's a conspiracy, I tell you! ;)

Re: Pete Rortvedt's record nine three pointers in a tournament game. First thought was, is that all? Doesn't seem like a lot, until you realize that is 27 points. 27 points is a lot in any game, no matter how you score them. Then to think he did it on 9-11 shooting from behind the arc makes it that much more impressive... And he's only a freshman... How about it, Pointer fans - someone asked for comparisons to Nick Bennett??? Granted, Bennett, who I saw all four years, has done it on the big stage, but how good a shooter is Rortvedt? I missed the game when the Pointers came to EC...

RE: Gibbons - buf is right. The paper had a writeup about the AD's support for Gibbons. In the pros that usually is a kiss of death. But I don't think that's the case here...  When I was a student at UWEC, you had to get to Zorn at 6:15 to get a seat for the men's games.  And I didn't know there was a women's team. Ha... Now, the women, with all the success in the 1990s under Lisa Stone, and currently under Tonja Englund, have outdrawn the men the last five seasons...

RE: La Crosse/Whitewater game... The 'Hawks should win, but unfortunately that might keep a deserving team - UWL, from getting a bid... A Stout win keeps the Pointers out, too. They probably wouldn't make it without winning the conference tournament, based on their record, but hey, let them in so they can defend their back-to-back titles! Heck, let all four semi final teams in!

Greek Tragedy

Well, when I first saw Rortvedt I immediately thought of he being Bennett's "replacement".  I say that because no one can fill his shoes and those are some high expectations.  I'm taking Bennett in a heartbeat and no offense to Rortvedt.  Believe me, I've been drinking the Rortvedt juice all year!  ;D

It's based on four years vs. one year.  If you want a reminder of Bennett's shooting skills, just watch the last two national championship games.  He gets shut out in the first half of last year's title game and then goes off for 18 or something like that in the second half.  He hardly even needs to set himself, some of his shots were just incredible.  Two years ago, he goes off for 30 or whatever against #1 and defending champion Williams.

After watching the young Pointers mature throughout the season, I'm really pumped for the next couple of years with the likes of Rortvedt, Beamish (who still has to start shooting more), El-Amin, the return of Shawn Lee and more recently the play of Drew Jackson and even Jerome Wotachek.  Of course, we can't forget about the veterans in Hicklin and Krull.

Of course, what the heck am I talking about next year for when we have Stout tomorrow night!

As you stated in the MWC board, the LU fans are over the whole Quandt situation last year and you requesting me to do the same, I think you should get over this whole "Quandt is a rathole" thing everytime you post on this board!  ;)  At least you are over the whole "Super Bowl" thing.  :P

I think I'll be at the game in Whitewater tomorrow night.

Good luck to all four teams for possible NCAA berths.

Thanks for commenting and I saw that article too about the AD.  I agree the kids he had this year worked their butts off for him.....I just think his lack of recruiting skills have caught up to him the last few years. I'm also tired of his excuses......a tough conference......EC is such a strong academic school and blah blah blah.  That hasn't slowed down the women's program or the football  program!
I remember somebody wrote in to the Leader-Telegram in the Voice of the People about a year ago right after their season was over and voiced his displeasure over the direction of the basketball program.....I'll be watching to see if that happens again.

Nick Bennett averaged 14 minutes and 5.6 points a game in his freshman year at Point, and Rortvedt has doubled those numbers this year. Nick's numbers in his soph year are about where Pete's are this year, so if Pete progresses along the same lines he could have a better career. As far as being a better player, let's see after his senior season. The one thing that I don't know that he'll be able to duplicate was Bennett's ability to just go up and hit a shot with a defender in his face from a dead stand still. It was amazing to watch him do that time after time. Kind of like a leaper that gets alot of dunks in a game, firing up your own team while letting the air out of the other team.
