Stevens Point pulls out a 54 - 50 win at River Falls to clinch at least a share of the WIAC regular season title.

WIAC homepage had Stout winning 60-59 originally when I went to get Live Stats for Point/RF Men's game.  It has since been changed, and I see that the score is what the Women's game actually was.

Stevens Point 13-1 +6
Whitewater 12-3 +4
La Crosse 9-6 +2
Platteville 8-6 +2
Stout 7-7 -1
Oshkosh 6-8 0
Superior 4-10 -3
Eau Claire 3-11 -4
River Falls 2-12 -6

I think Point has already wrapped up the top seed in the conference tournament.

Because SP and WW split their two decisions, it goes to record against the next highest seed. Point swept LaX and WW was 1-1. Both teams swept Platteville, so this is negated, and under this scenario, both would be 1-1 against Stout... so any way you slice it, Point is the top seed.

La Crosse can't end the year worse than 9-7 and Oshkosh can only get up to 8-8, so even if the Titans beat the Pointers, SP would still be the top seed.

Anybody see any flaws in this logic?

Oshkosh: 51
WARHAWKS: 75

The lead changed hands twice in the first seven minutes until Eric Bryson's three-pointer put the WARHAWKS on top 12-11 and with a lead we would hold for the rest of the game.  The WARHAWKS lead remained a single digit for the until Alex Merg's three-pointer made the score 30-18 with just under three and half minutes remaining in the half.  The lead grew to fourteen points briefly and the half ended with the WARHAWKS up thirteen 37-24.  The WARHAWKS shot 48% in the half while the defense held the Titans to 30%.  Merg led all scorers with 10 points hitting all three of his shots from the field and the charity stripe.  Opening the second half with an 11-2run in the first four minutes the WARHAWKS pushed the lead to 22 points 48-24.  Oshkosh would get no closer than 16 points for the remainder of the game.

The WARHAWKS finished game shooting an even 50% while holding the Titans to 36%.  KJ Evans led all scorers with 17 points while Reggie Hearn added 16 points and Eric Bryson and Alex Merg both finished with 10 points.  Evans and Merg each finished with 6 rebounds.  Quardell Young had a game high 5 assists and added a pair of blocks and steals.

Max Schebel led the Titans with 12 points.

In a non-basketball note congrats the the WARHAWKS wrestling team who dominated both Stevens Point (38-9) and LaCrosse  (35-9) to win their third consecutive WIAC championship.

#2 Cabrini beaten.  Will the WIAC claim the #1 and #2 spots in next week's Top 25?

Interesting that Heuer had 11 pts and 10 rebounds at halftime and then just 4 points and 1 rebound after the break.

WARHAWKS #2

I don't think the WIAC has occupied the top two spots before.  At least not that I can remember.

Not since the D3hoops.com poll began (or, at least, according to what's been archived).

Back in 08-09 (the year of the Bracket of Death), Point, Whitewater, and Platteville were all ranked in the top 7 in the final poll.  That's the closest I think we've gotten. Those 3 teams were 3, 4, 5 during that season and in week 4, Platteville was #1, Point #5 and WW #6.

In 06-07, Point was #1 and Oshkosh #5 in week 11.

In 09-10, Point was #1 and Whitewater #5 in week 8.

Lets hope the committee finds a way to put them on opposite sides come tourney time.  I remember a few years back when several ranked teams including point st Thomas whitewater were all in same regional just a little ridiculous.
GOTTA LOVE ACT 10

badgerwarhawk

Last night I was reading my home town newspaper which includes a feature in which they highlight news stories from 100 years ago, 1914.  The feature included a story of the Tomah Pickwicks defeating the Sparta Pickwicks 25-11 and in it said that the Tomah team not only had to defeat the Sparta team but also the Sparta official who's "methods were not conducive to fair play, "cost the Tomah team several points to which they were entitled" and "led to delays due to injury and other causes."

Evidently complaining about the officiating goes a long way back.  Don't ask me why both teams were Pickwicks.  Actually I don't even know what a pickwick is but I got a chuckle out of the article.
