Hopefully point will continue to roll and host all the way until final 4.

Pat, I'd be interested in your take on how an 8 loss team (Emory) gets the first round bye.  On the surface it looks like Point got hosed but I realize there are factors other than w/l record that go into the decision.  But, really, 8 losses.

For WIW I like our pod with Northwestern, St Thomas and Augustana.

Emory is even more puzzling, given that in the group of 3 teams, Centre is clearly the best one, and all three schools are within the 500 mile driving distance to each other. If you HAD to put the bye in that group because of geography, it should have gone to Centre and let Emory and LaGrange play each other.

There was little chance UWSP was going to get a bye since they are plenty of teams to play within the 500 mile circle, but to give it to Emory is really bizzare.

I also think you could have swapped the UWW pod for the Illinois Wesleyan pod and then flipped one of the Eastern quadrants over so that the semifinals weren't East-East and West-West. That would have kept UWW and UWSP separate without extra flights or problems.

In general, I think this was a lazy bracket.

The left side of the backer has teams that are currently ranked 1,2,3,4,5, and 8.   It might be a good idea to spend a little money on travel!!!

My guess is it was the vRRO/SOS that got Emory the host job.

St Thomas just lost to a team you guys drilled and they've lost twice to St Johns.  One of their better players has been injured and missed some recent games.  Augustana has beaten both LaCrosse and Oshkosh but was beaten by Platteville.  We've beaten all three at least twice.  I'm not positive but I think Augustana is the team we scrimmaged before the season started and did just fine.  Plus we'll only have to play one of the two.  I don't know anything about Northwestern though we've played them in the recent past and haven't had any problems. Actually from my contacts with them I have a lot of respect for their program.

I'm not suggesting that I think it will be a cake walk and they should just pencil us into the next round.  If we play poorly, turn the ball over a bunch and shoot 17% from the floor we'll get our butts waxed.  We'll have to play well and get some breaks but given all the information I have right now I like our chances.  We're 12-0 in our own gym.  That's all I'm saying.

Though I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express for a long, long time so it's possible I don't have a clue.

edit: I meant to say that I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express....

I'd like to think the Eagles at least gave Whitewater a few problems despite a couple double digit losses.  Chris Davis could shoot 17% as you point out but instead he went 15-18.

The Tommies have lost a couple games recently but they've got enough tournament veterans to turn it up for the Dance.

Clearly Centre was the better team? Did you really look at the data? Because Emory was second-ranked last week and Centre was around fifth or sixth. Emory's SOS was one, if not, the best number in the country and they played more teams regionally ranked. Centre was not clearly the best team of the two. I don't have a problem with Emory hosting if it was a pod. Centre should have hosted ONLY because it could have allowed a pod to be created of four teams and geography plays a major roll all of the time.

As do we.  Five with National Championship experience.  If the two meet it should be a very competitive game.
Northwestern shot really well from beyond the arc in our last meeting.

I'm not sure that this has ever happened before but a brother-sister pair have been named the conference's scholar athletes of the year.  Alex Merg was named the men's scholar athlete and his sister, Mary Merg, has been named as one of the women's scholar athletes.  I thought that was pretty cool.
