You're assuming that carrying the team would show up in the writeup. They typically tell about the general flow of the game and give the highest scorers, which are most likely going to be Tillema and Hass in large part because they're the recipient of garbage fts which inflate their stats.

Wow, really John? Hass averages 2.5 made free throws A GAME. Tillema's is 4.5. Assume half are made in the last 5 minutes of the game. Even if both didn't make any free throws the whole year, they would average over 15 points a game. Hass and Tillema are in there at the end of the game, something that Heuer isn't a lot of the time. They are in there is carry the team to victory at the end.

If there are games that Heuer did carry the team, it would be mentioned, even if it was defensively. I know you played and more of a student of the game. You are partial to post playes.  Im more of a numbers guy. Last year Erik Olsen made AC and he didn't have great stats, but I know he deserved it. Heuer doesn't...and neither does Royston.

I'll grant that my point may have been a bit overstated... but the ball is in the hands of Tillema or Hass at the end of the game and it's in the hands of one of those two guys 65% + of the time on offense... with another 15% being held by a guy who's looking to pass to them.

I'm just saying that, especially in the second half of the year, Heuer made a much larger impact than he did early on (non-con) and became a player to be reckoned with.... which in and of itself HELPED the team because defenses had to choke down on him.

That was all written before I tonight's game, by the way. Afterwards, I reiterate my points.

Heuer scored 20 twice earlier in the year... against Platteville (with a good-sized big guy) and against Superior (with a mini-giant). While Clayton came in from UWGB as a perimeter player, he has developed inside skills and plays BETTER against bigger players.

I completely get this... I was much the same way when I played.

RE attendance... were the figures correct? 2200 last night and 2000 tonight?

I imagine that it will be jam packed if Point hosts and both SP and WW make it to the Elite 8... but it just seems odd that these games wouldn't sell out 100%. Quandt's capacity is listed at 2787.... Could they really have fit 759 more people in the gym tonight, and another 500 last night?

From the sounds of the crowd noise on the video, it was REALLY loud... which generally only happens when Quandt has 2400+.

And it was nice to see the students finally organize a bit and get up out of their seats...
Not competing against WIAA Boys Sectional Finals on Friday like they were Saturday may have a little something to do with it, and the fact that there are fans from four teams at the game compared to two (even though 90% were still likely Point fans both nights.)

Marian's crowd was 3 times the size of Central's, accounting for most of the difference.  A few people did attend high school games Saturday as well.  I am quessing those were paid attendance numbers (not counting the pep band or cheerleaders)because there was no way you fit it another 400 people for the Marian game.  Kudos to the Marian team and fans for their performance Friday, they easily could have pulled the upset.

I guess the WIAC hosing in the NCAA tourney isn't sexist. The Whitewater women have to play the Oshkosh women in the Sweet 16.

Sad that one of these very good teams will not get a chance at the final 4.  Limited resources is understood. Travel had to be a part at this level. But the national championship game could be held at the host of uww and uwsp. Again great job to both teams. Best of luck. WIAC conference of champions.

Follow the Warhawk game with Augustana an Augustana fan walked up to Reggie Hearn and handed him a DVD.  The title of the DVD was "Evolution vs. God."  This seemed kind of odd to me.  I'm not sure what the message was.

Can one of you regulars who understands all this stuff explain why UW-Whitewater couldn't have been placed in the bracket below UW-Stevens Point?  Warhawks could be playing at IWU instead of UWSP.

Could be worse though as we've seen with women's sectional play.  Whitewater, Point, and Carthage all traveling to Indiana.

"Evolution vs God" is a series of interviews with evolutionary scientists/professors on various college campuses. The interviewer asks some pointed questions rather than just softball tosses that allows the professors to bloviate without challenge.  No idea why the fan gave it to Reggie. Maybe they know each other or, with social media being what it is, maybe they had been engaging in online dialogue.

Point vs whitewater for berth to final 4 would be awesome and no doubt a sellout crowd.  It does blow that they couldn't meet in title game but oh we'll to be the best you have to beat the best.  How was central not ranked they were an extremely talented team.  As seming said in post game inteview they had two guys for sure he would've nominated first team in Wiac I would argue maybe three.

It was argued that travel had nothing to do with it this year. It was a new committee and they were either lazy and/or clueless.

Pat, I'd be interested in your take on how an 8 loss team (Emory) gets the first round bye.  On the surface it looks like Point got hosed but I realize there are factors other than w/l record that go into the decision.  But, really, 8 losses.

For WIW I like our pod with Northwestern, St Thomas and Augustana.

Emory is even more puzzling, given that in the group of 3 teams, Centre is clearly the best one, and all three schools are within the 500 mile driving distance to each other. If you HAD to put the bye in that group because of geography, it should have gone to Centre and let Emory and LaGrange play each other.

There was little chance UWSP was going to get a bye since they are plenty of teams to play within the 500 mile circle, but to give it to Emory is really bizzare.

I also think you could have swapped the UWW pod for the Illinois Wesleyan pod and then flipped one of the Eastern quadrants over so that the semifinals weren't East-East and West-West. That would have kept UWW and UWSP separate without extra flights or problems.

In general, I think this was a lazy bracket.

Actually it is Oshkosh, not Point on the women's side....

I'm pretty sure Reggie didn't have a clue who the guy was.  This has the appearance of a random act.  Why someone would chose a basketball game to hand out religious material and Reggie specifically will probably remain a mystery.  It made me wonder if the fact that we are a public school had something to do with their motivation.  I really don't know if UW-Whitewater has any theology course in our cirriculum.  It wasn't a big deal.  I just thought it odd and to my knowledge nothing like it has happened in the past.
