Follow the Warhawk game with Augustana an Augustana fan walked up to Reggie Hearn and handed him a DVD.  The title of the DVD was "Evolution vs. God."  This seemed kind of odd to me.  I'm not sure what the message was.

"Evolution vs God" is a series of interviews with evolutionary scientists/professors on various college campuses. The interviewer asks some pointed questions rather than just softball tosses that allows the professors to bloviate without challenge.  No idea why the fan gave it to Reggie. Maybe they know each other or, with social media being what it is, maybe they had been engaging in online dialogue.

I'm pretty sure Reggie didn't have a clue who the guy was.  This has the appearance of a random act.  Why someone would chose a basketball game to hand out religious material and Reggie specifically will probably remain a mystery.  It made me wonder if the fact that we are a public school had something to do with their motivation.  I really don't know if UW-Whitewater has any theology course in our cirriculum.  It wasn't a big deal.  I just thought it odd and to my knowledge nothing like it has happened in the past.

I'm sure that Whitewater has philosophy courses though... I took a number of different philosophy and religious studies classes at UWSP.

Despite the course names, though, these are decidedly secular courses. They're not tied to any denominational tradition and they're taught by people with PhD's from secular universities, not from a seminary.

This doesn't necessarily mean that the professors are without any convictions of faith personally... but in my experience, the vast majority hold to beliefs alligned with an humanistic atheism.

TICKET INFO.

Busy weekend for Pointer fans!

So all year long there were probably an average of 75-100 students (quiet ones at that) at Point home games when tickets were free. Tickets are now $4 for students and there are twice that number (all the loud ones as well) at the games in the NCAA tourney. Go figure.

Starting with the conference tournament game against Platteville, Daron Montgomery... incited? suggested? that some students take the spot underneath the basket (where superfans typically have sat... er... stood) instead of directly across from the Pointer bench.

I think that the Marian students may have helped... when you have a group to cheer against, it can help to get people a bit more organized.

I still think that if a larger student organization arose, like the Orange Crush at the University of Illinois, it could go a long way to developing consistent student support. The Orange Crush does much more than simply cheer at basketball games... they also do service projects and raise money for scholarships, etc. That would be great to see at Point... and/or in the WIAC in general.

This would give the student direction and the teams more support... plus they would contribute to the greater good in their communities.

I think that these college students are largely an untapped available resource in the communities that they go to school in. I think back to all the free time I had in college (even with majoring in math, playing basketball, and being very involved with both the local Campus Crusade chapter and at my church) and I think of everything more that I could have accomplished, and, multiplied over a (potential) base of several thousand students, what could be accomplished is unbelievable.

Interesting debate on the all-conference so i did a little statistical analysis to look at it more closely.  I took the formula that they use for the fantasy league for the WIAC and tweaked it by dividing the number of games played.  Thus not to penalize someone like Tillema or Skogman for breaking their nose and thus missing a conference game.  I used conference only stats no non conference games played any factor in this.  So for review i took points scored, 3pters made, ft's made, total rebounds, assists, steals, blocks minus turnovers and then divided by games played.  I also took the liberty to go a little deeper to see if anyone in the league may have gotten slighted...

1 Chas Cross 30.25 pg  1st team
2 Tyler Tillema 29.733 pg POY
3. Trevor Hass 29.313 pg 1st team
4 Jarrod Peterson 29.125 pg HM
5 Ollie White 28.938 pg 1st team
6 KJ Evans 28.813 pg 1st team
7 Callahan Skogman 27.133 pg 1st team
8 Adam Hjelter 22.625 pg HM
9 Jade Royston 22.563 pg 1st team
10 Jimmy Whitehead 22.50 pg HM
11 Alex Oman 22.267 pg HM
12 Eric Bryson 21 pg  1st team
12 Aaron Jenny 21 pg 1st team
14 Bronson Byrne 20.563 pg HM
15 Reggie Hearn 20.00 pg HM
16 Lucas Collom 19.625 pg HM
17 Ben Gresmer 19.375 pg     NOT ON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
18 Quardell Young 19.25 pg 1st team
19 Jim Stocki 19.125 pg HM
20 Lewis Mau 19.00   NOT ON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
21 Boston Johnson 18.938 pg NOT ON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

31  Alex Merg 15.313 NOT ON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
32 Grant Erickson 15.063 NOT ON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Longtime reader; first time poster, but I felt compelled to enter the fray as I feel Jarrod Peterson should have been a lock for first team All Conference.  I know he was fiesty and probably set the WIAC record for T's, but he was the conference's leading scorer and was the target of the defense of the opponents every time. I saw him play a lot the last couple of years and believe me, the Jackets will miss him.  He was slighted! JARROD PETERSON is on my FIRST TEAM ALL CONFERENCE TEAM!!!

Love the name, billybobble! Welcome to the board.

If you read, I'm pretty sure everyone had Peterson on their first team...everyone except the ones that mattered.

Hope to hear more from you...

For those in the area and unable to secure a ticket, WSAW is broadcasting the Stevens Point vs Emory game live Friday night....  Might be a little easier to watch on TV compared to your computer.  IF Point wins Friday night, Saturday's game is also scheduled to be televised live.

Wow, so who gets the TV $$$ for this?

I suspect that the NCAA gets the money considering that they own the rights.
