Whitewater men up 8 with 12 to go, and we know that may not be enough... :'(

Looks like KJ Evans is Whitewater's Tillema last night. Emory can't stop him. 8-14, 18 points and 7 rebounds.

It's safe to say whitewater has a great shot at title point sure picked a bad time to play their worst ball.

Congrats to both the Whitewater men and women for each making the Final Four.

The men have been playing great for four games, but have a mountain to climb against IWU. Check out the always active CCIW page for insight on Illinois Wesleyan. They are a very tall team with great shooters and a deep bench, from what I've read. But, Whitewater is pretty good too!

Good luck, make the WIAC proud.

It's a great day to be a WARHAWK

It was a tough first half.  Neither team seemed to play very well but once we made the run to start the second half it was on.  Of course it helped that Davis had foul trouble and sat more than the night before and then fouled out.  But Bryson, Evans and Odegarrd really did a good job on him defensively.

We'll do our best to represent our league well.

Greek, I wouldn't say IWU is tall (taller than UWW, but not unusually tall for a good D3 team) -- but rather extremely physical and strong.

It should be a great matchup - two very different teams.

Did teams in the WIAC zone Whitewater a lot this year?  How do the Warhawks typically fair against a zone?

Seems like a something teams would do to on occasion to disrupt UWW's dribble penetration.  Just curious how they handle it.

I would get video of the Wiac championship game at point if you want the recipe to beat the war hawks.

Congrats to Tyler Tillema and Trevor Hass (first team) and to KJ Evans and Chas Cross (second team) on being selected to the All West Region team.  Evans and a sophomore from Crown (third team) were the only non-seniors of the 15 selected.

Tillema was the West Region's Player of the Year.

Titan Q,

Thanks for the info.

Admittedly, I have not seen a lot games recently. Point rarely plays zone, so I don't think thwy played that at all against Whitewater. I could he wrong though. I can't speak for any other team and I'm probably not qualified to speak for the Pointers!

Someone like badgerwarhawk, frodotwo or John Gleich could help more.

We had a discussion about UWSP and zone back in December after the D3hoops.com Classic. If I recall correctly, UWSP was sagging so far and switching enough that their man looked like zone to me and Dave. :)

Emory switched defenses alternating between a 1-3-1 which at times looked like a 2-3 zone and a man defense.  UT-Dallas did the same thing though they stayed in the 1-3-1 more.  Both teams extended it way out to nearly mid-court.  It took a while to adjust but once we did we did just fine.  Against UT-D Cody Odegaard got hot and hit 5 or 7 three point attempts.  That opened things up and then our dribble penetration was effective in getting Evans and Hearn short shots.  We didn't shoot as well against Emory but they were so spread out that we were able to dribble penetrate, particularly on the baseline, and get easy shots.  Other teams in conference play have zoned us and though we'd probably prefer they man up we've been able to adjust.
