Yes, Bryson's three gave the WARHAWKS a one point lead.

So going up in divisions you have to sit out a year but going from D1 to D3 you don't have to? That sounds backwards. Or did Heuer sit out a year? I can't remember.  ??? I think I read that Evans sat out two years ago when Whitewater won it, so I guess it goes both ways.
That is correct - going up from D2 to D1 or D3 to D1 you have to sit out a year.  Whereas you can drop down divsions without sitting a year.

I think this is done to keep lower levels from becoming minor league system to the D1 powerhouses.  Wouldn't UW love to place a player or two at UW-Platteville.  Have them play a lot and then "bring them up" the following season?
I can't see this being a big problem.  They obviously wouldn't get a scholarship while playing at Platteville and if they were good enough to be close to a D1 scholarship at a powerhouse, they surely have mid-major offers.  The guy without any D1 offers that's looking to move up after a year of D3 is probably not going to suddenly get promises of starting jobs at the D1 level.  He'll probably find his chances of playing professionally are pretty even since he's going to get more playing time at D3
I hope you can see how it has the potential for abuse ... place someone in your coaching tree at Platteville, funnel some recruits like Evan Anderson or Zac Showalter there for a year ... helps Wisconsin, maybe helps UWP for a year but could be harmful to the WIAC or to potential recruits elsewhere.

I don't necessarily disagree with your position.  This "rule" restricts player movement while college's can cut a player whenever they chose.

Greek Tragedy - thanks for the run down on who is and is not returning.

With regards to the height thing most schools add inches.  Someone from Green Bay was trying to argue with a friend of mine that Keifer Sykes was 5-11.  The only way he's 5-11 is if he's wearing shoes designed for JLo (my wife watches Idol).

There are 14 class of 2014 Wisconsin HS players going DII.

Here is a link of Wisconsin's class of 2014: http://www.wissports.net/Playground/default.aspx?g=posts&t=1239599

Even worse, the D-I teams could simply raid the D-III teams for talent, even without a connection like that in place.

Isn't it against NCAA regulations for NCAA schools to recruit athletes that are enrolled at other schools? So, if a transfer would take place the student would have to initiate coversations. Right?

I think we discussed this once on the football boards before.

It's against NCAA regulations for schools to recruit athletes that are enrolled at other schools without a release.

In the case of a scholarship school (D-II and D-I), the school must provide this release. In the case of D-III, students can provide their own release.

And just because it's illegal doesn't mean it wouldn't happen, guys.

That's my thought as well, Pat.

Any school can throw out an unofficial flyer. The student gets that information through hearsay and the ball is rolling.

Is it November yet?  ::)  ???

2013-2014 starting lineups and who they lose

Whitewater
Evans-17.3
Hearn-12.2
Bryson-11.8
Young-10.7
Merg-7.2

Two key components returning for the national champs next season. They will miss Bryson's versatility...hopefully his brother can fill his shoes. Odengaard, key bench player in 2013, should move into the starting role next year. Still, with Q and Evans returning, UWW will be very strong.

I'd say 3. Egan may not have played a huge role throughout the year... but he played a significant role at times, including in the championship. His 8 points in the first half against UWSP blew that game open for UWW in the game @UWW (three quick Pointer 3's negated that in 2 minutes in the second half, but think about the outcome without those points!)

Is Souter coming back, or was he a senior too?

Souter is a senior. Souter, Hearn, Merg, and Bryson are the seniors. Souter really gutted it out to give the Hawks some minutes in the last couple of games. The Hawks will miss all four of these guys.

For anyone that missed the game (like myself), I found this link on D3hoops which replays the entire game

UWW Championship Game

I'm reading that it's only up until the end of the month,

badgerwarhawk

I get an error message saying the video is not available.

Souter really gutted it out for the whole two years he played for us.  The average fan has no idea the injuries that he's played through.  I was really happy to see that he got on the floor for the championship game even if only for a few minutes.  He's a really good person and if anyone deserved the opportunity it was him.

Odd, I watched the entire game at home yesterday with this link.
