Preseason poll is out. Whitewater #1 and Point #7. (WOW!)

It's our preseason Top 25, not the WIAC preseason poll.

Wow is right....I don't think Point has the firepower offensively to be a top 10 team, I'm certainly hoping to be pleasantly surprised though.  Losing Tillema, Hass and Heuer won't be easy to replace.  Underclassmen will have to grow up quickly.

You Point guys led me to think you might not be #2 in the WIAC, much less #7 in the country.

Point should be #2 in the WIAC, and I'm still hoping they can beat WW for a conference title...they have the talent to contend with anyone.  It's just unproven talent.  Anything can happen in a tough league like the WIAC, should be a fun season to follow.

Based on returning players, not sure who could challenge Point for the #2 spot.  I think there's a huge drop-off after the Big 2.

I know it won't be Stout, who gradulated 9 seniors and probably not La Crosse, who returns a total of 27 starts from returning players, 20 from Clint Rihn, who averaged a robust 2.4 PPG (No Callahan Skogman on returning roster??).

River Falls returns eight players and two starters from a 8-17 (3-13 conf) and Superior graduated Jarrod Peterson the top scorer in the WIAC last year and Bronson Byrne's 11 and 7 are no longer with the team either.

Two young teams Oshkosh 12-14/7-9 and Eau Claire 10-15/3-13 are poised to make some noise I believe. The Blugolds return all 5 starters  (and graduated no one from last year's roster) and the Titans return 3 starters and 70% of their scoring and rebounding as well.

Platteville loses Cross and Skip but returns everyone else from a 16-11/10-6 squad.

On paper the Pioneers return more than Point so I figure those two will fight it out for second behind WW.

Was impressed with new players on RF roster last night in intra-squad scrimmage, but they're all young. Falcons will have NO seniors. One of their last year starters,

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

woops, wrong button. One of their starters, Devin Buckley, will not play this year, I was told by a fan, becuz of back problems. Unfortunate cuz he was a good freshman last year.

I will wait until after Thursday night when RF scrimmages St. Olaf to make any more accurate comments. RF has 7 transfers with good size and mobility plus several freshmen who will contribute. But it's a team of the future.

Not sure everyone will agree, but it seems to me that unproven talent is more accurately labeled "potential" than talent.
Good HS players don't necessarily have the talent to be overly successful at the next level, especially when you consider that most HS players good enough to play in college roster have some "talent." They then also have the potential to be talented college players.   ;)

What happened to Skogman?  That is a big loss.

BW--There's a RF kid named Murphy who's out for bb at WW. He's the all-time leading scorer at RFHS, but he's only 5'9" and had some trouble academically in hs. I've looked at the roster but the new one is not up at the WW site. Do you know anything about how he's doing? He's a good kid, but whether he's ready for the WIAC /college is a question folks around here have.
