WARHAWKS: 82
Hope: 80

After a closely contested second half a pair of free throws by KJ Evans with :07 on clock put the WARHAWKS up 82-78 and clinched the win.  All five starters scored in double figures (Young: 18, Evans: 17, Bryson: 14,  Odegaard: 12 and Egan:12).  Young added 5 assists and 5 steals.  Evans pulled down 6 rebounds.  The team showed modest improvement in free throw shooting going 12-18 and dishing out 9 assists on 32 field goals.  Ron Patten had 7 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

It was a good road win against a team consistently playing in the post season.

A little late commenting on this, but that was a nice win to get back on track. Hawks have a great core returning from their championship team, but really low on depth I think.

At first I was concerned with the Cardinal Stritch loss, but after looking into it they have an excellent BBall program down there. One of the best in the NAIA in fact, which made the loss a little easier to swallow.  ;D

Greek Tragedy

When has Whitewater had depth on their team? Seems like the starters play 35+ a game with one player coming off the bench to make some plays and another to come in and pass to the stars. It's not a rip on Whitewater.  I just don't recall ever telling myself, "Wow, they got 3 guys coming off the bench and they don't miss a beat."

St. Thomas will win yet another conference title.
They'll host a 1st/2nd round pod.
They'll advance to the 2nd weekend.

I don't see Point accomplishing any of those things.

Oh yeah, St. Thomas wil beat Point next month.

So is St Olaf any good?  They were able to stick with the Pointers, that seems to be a positive.   ???

I thought so last year, made the tournament and were knocked about by Central, Ia.  They returned a lot, have a solid center and a lot of nice players around him.  I suspect it will be St. Thomas and St. Olaf for the MIAC.

Point was more talented, but not by a lot.  St. Olaf won by playing a really good 2nd half of defense, Point couldn't hit the same shots they hit in the 1st half and St. Olaf made enough, got a good break and won a close game.  But Point could have easily won that game.  I wouldn't write-off either team for March just yet.

Greek Tragedy

Enough about St. Olaf.   ;D

I presume with Point's recent results coupled with Hope's narrow loss to Whitewater,  you're feeling pretty confident about Point's visit this weekend.

A little about St. Olaf:

"Modern historians generally support that Olaf was inclined to use extensive violence and brutality. This was, however, not unusual among Olaf's contemporaries. Earlier scientific presentations of Olaf are accused of undercommunicating these aspects of Olaf. A symbol of national independence and pride, not least during Romantic Nationalism, Olaf had to be presented in a way that better suited contemporary authorities."

Did the Pointers find them as physical as their namesake?  Did they communicate on defense?  ;D

Well, last year they seemed to have pretty good depth... and it got 'em a trophy.

This Hope fan was encouraged by the effort vs. WW but disappointed that they let a lead get away with three turnovers and a bunch of mssed but makeable shots in the final couple of minutes.  But credit WW for making that happen.  With regard to Hope vs. Point, personally I feel its way too early with a new coach and a new system to think that one game is an indicator of much of anything.  It would be way premature to be confident of the outcome against an established team like Point, even if its a down year for them.  If Hope gets a few more games under their belt where they play as they did vs. WW,  then I think we can begin having some expectations.

I'll say he was nasty.  He had a cousin imprisoned and killed.  The outrage forced him to flee Norway.

BTW, that cousin was allegwedly an ancestor of mine.
