Rumor is a Warhawk may be looking for a 10 day NBA contract.  And it's not Pat Miller. This could be convenient scheduling.

RF loses to no. 6 UST 70-69 in St. Paul. Falcons trail by 5 at half, but take as much as an 8 point lead w/7 minutes left.  Tommies rally and lead for the last 2 minutes. Big stat difference:  22 t.o.'s for RF, 8 for UST. Falcons make up for that with 61% shooting to 48% for UST. Four in double figures for UST, Shaeffer leading with 22.

RF led by Christensen w/18, Erickson w/16, most in the second half. Erickson, who led all divisions of the NCAA in assist/turnover ratio last season, added 5 rbds, 5 assts.

RF has no seniors. Though they have been starting a couple of freshmen from time to time, all starters were sophomores or juniors tonight.

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

Wow..impressive showing by the Falcons. Things seem to be on the upswing for UWRF athletics.

Stevens Point escapes 69-60 in OT at home vs Edgewood, a team picked 6th in the NACC. Alex Richard had another career night with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Lutz, Pelkofer and Ritchay also scored in double digits with 13, 10, and 10. Sean McGann came off the bench and played 38 minutes (that's not a misprint), contributing 10 boards. Point shot just 40% and only 25% from beyond the arc (5-20).

Platteville was surprised at home against Carthage 73-64. The Carthage just lost at home to La Crosse by double digits. I thought the Pioneers were poised for a 2nd place finish in the WIAC, but this result against a team picked 2nd to last in the CCIW doesn't help their cause. Jake Manning lead Platteville with 14 off the bench while Boston Johnson and Matt Oestreich were the onlybothe Pioneers in double figures with 13 and 10. Platteville allowed Carthage to shoot 54.3% and 60% from 3.

Superior was overmatched in the 2nd half against D2 Winona St, 92-69. Zach Schradle had a very good game with 14 points,  11 boards and 4 dimes. Ketz, Brooks and Lindblom chipped in 13, 10 and 11. Superior coughed up the ball 18 times.

La Crosse shot just 33% in a 56-52 loss to Viterbo. Vale Zuiker was the only one to get the memo that there was a game as he scored 22 and no other Eagle made double digits. Without Cale's 8-18 FGs, the rest of the team shot 12-42.

Greek - thanks for last night's summary.  Shocked by UWP's loss to Carthage - saw them last Saturday against LaCrosse in a game which they looked really bad.  Congrats to Bosko (who shouldered much of the responsibility for the loss even though I didn't see him get beat once defensively) for turning things around.

Not surprised by UWL's loss - they'll struggle to score on many nights this year.

WARHAWKS: 84
Alma: 71

The WARHAWKS opened the game with a 7-2 run and led through the first seven minutes of play.  Alma hung close and took their one and only lead 12-11 at that point but Ron Patton scored eight straight points and the WARHAWKS led 19-12.  Over the last ten minutes of the half the lead reached a high of nine points and low of two points before the half ended with the WARHAWKS on top by seven 43-36.  With a couple of exceptions the lead remained in single digits, reaching a low of 5 points, in the first ten minutes of the second half.  Leading 65-60 Cody Odegaard hit a pair of free throws and followed that with a three point basket expanding the lead to double digits 69-59.  Alma would get to within six over the next couple of minutes but a three pointer by Quardell Young put the WARHAWKS up by eleven points 76-65 and in the last three and half minutes the lead remained in double figures with a high of fifteen before ending.

KJ Evans had a double-double 20 points, 12 rebounds and added 3 assists
Steve Egan: 14 points, 4 rebounds
Ron Patten, 14 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals in 14 minutes
Quardell Young: 13 points, 6 assists, 2 steals
Cody Odegaard: 11 points
Xzavier Moananu: 7 points, 6 rebounds

Another near-full slate of games this weekend with 10 games involving 7 teams. Oshkosh and Whitewater didn't get invites to play this weekend,  so they'll just play each other in their conference opener on Wednesday.

The WIAC is just 20-19 so far.

In 2-day tournament games, River Falls (1-3) takes on St. Scholastica in Canada and Northland also heads to Canada to battle Superior (2-3). On Sunday, they swap dance partners. Stout (0-3) hosts Wartburg and then plays on Sunday as well. I have no idea who the other two teams are.

Other Saturday games:

Central at La Crosse (2-2)
Hamline at Eau Claire (2-3)
Buena Vista at Platteville (3-2)
North Central (IL) at Stevens Point (3-1)

Off this weekend

Whitewater (4-1)
Oshkosh (3-1)

I predict that the Whitewater vs Oshkosh game will not result in an improvement in the conference W-L record.  :-*

Thanks. It didn't help though! LOL. Unfortunately, I'm anticipating a lot of these nights this season.
