The WARHAWKS jumped a spot and back into first in this week's Top 25.
The Pointers are ranked 19th having moved down four spots.

It's only halftime, but Point is currently on a 27-0 run at LA Crosse. Point jumped out 4-0, LaX scored the next 9, and the Eagles have been held scoreless for the final 15:53 of the half.

Sounds like Point is playing good D, but yikes...

UW-W wins 65-64 at Platteville.  Quardell Young scores on a layup with 8 seconds left. After a UW-P timeout, Young blocked a 3 point shot attempt from the top of the key. According to the UW-W website, he blocked the ball back towards half court so he got a pretty good piece of it. Q is flat out dominant this year. Tonight: 26 points on 9-15 shooting, although he did have 5 turnovers with only one assist tonight.  UW-P must have played an aggressive game tonight. They hit 20 of 23 free throws and UW-W attempted only five. All in all, it sounds like it was a great game. That's 11 straight for UW-W.

Why is he playing at Whitewater?  Is he a D-2 player or was he?

Size, has gotten much better, overlooked, someone didn't want to take a chance to see what he could be. WIAC is a tough conference. There are a lot of players who should have played D2, some D1. Conference of Champions!! Looking forward to February and playoffs. Is there someone that can take on UWW? They have pulled off some close games. Who is it going to be?

Q has been at WHITEWATER since he was a freshman.  It completely baffles me how UW-Parkside let him leave Kenosha.  Though he was a very good high school player he's put a lot of time into developing his outside game so maybe that was a factor for their staff.  He could definitely have played at the D2 level imo and if he were a few inches taller perhaps higher.

He's a difference maker because when push comes to shove he can get to the rim and for his size I don't know if there is another player in the league who can elevate like he can.  We're incredibly fortunate to have him wearing our shade of purple.  Also he an outstanding young man.

I believe Q's father is Matt Young, all conference 79 and 80 for UWW, jmo I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure that you're mistaken.

WARHAWKS: 65
Platteville: 64

The Pioneers opened the scoring with Jim Stocki's three point basket but neither team led by more than four points at any point in the half.  The lead changed hands eight times and the two teams were tied on four occassions.  With the score tied 31-31 and thirty four seconds remaining Cory Vaassen connected on two free throws to put the Pioneers up by two when Quardell Young's three point attempt missed at the buzzer.  The second half was essentially a mirror image of the first one with the two teams tied seven times and seven lead changes.  Platteville's largest lead in the second half was six 45-39 about eight minutes into it and the WARHAWKS never led by more than three points.  Jake Manning's two free throws gave the Pioneers a 64-63 lead with twenty seven seconds to go but Quardell Young's driving layup with eight seconds left provided the winning basket and his block of Peyton River's three point attempt ended the game.

Young: 26 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 2 steals
Cody Odegaard: 12 points, 1 assist, 1 steal
Xzavier Moananu: 9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals
KJ Evans: 9 points, 6 rebounds

Platteville:
Jim Stocki: 19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal
Cody Vaassen: 18 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals
Jake Manning: 11 points, 5 rebounds
Boston Johnson: 8 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists

Platteville makes four times as many free throws (20-23) as the WARHAWKS made (5-8).

The ball got partially blocked and ballooned into the middle of the lane. It was K.J. Evans (I believe) who swatted it the rest of the way towards half court.

RedHotFalcon--There's not one WIAC player who's D1. Quardell Young, WW, is the closest, and he, as good as he is, could not play D1, except perhaps as a bench warmer. Too small.

About 4-5 years ago Point had an excellent guard, equal to or better than QY but bigger, who transferred to a D2  team in the southeast after his sophomore year. I lost track of him, but maybe GT can fill us in on him. Rich Melzer of RF, the best we've ever had and the player of the year in the WIAC as a senior, would have been a good D2 player, but would have sat the bench at Wisconsin.

Melzer was a hell of a good player.  Despite the problems he gave us I really enjoyed watching him play.
