For "Q", It's three times this season (LaCrosse, Platteville and EauClaire) that he's hit the game winner in the closing seconds.  Four times if you include the win over Williams in last year's national championship game.

Here's "Q" Young's game winner La Crosse on Saturday night..

Just wondering... Is UWW's "Q" Young on the short list to be named "Player of the Year" in D3 this season. I know he's one of the top 3 point guards to ever lace 'em up for the Warhawks.

I'd say Quardell Young is definitely on the 'short list'.  Probably the two leading candidates before the season began were Aaron Walton-Moss of Cabrini (but his team is doing rather poorly this season, which can't help) and Duncan Robinson (last season's Rookie of the Year for Williams, but now a Michigan Wolverine).  Others on the pre-season 'watch list' would have included Q's teammate K J Evans (who has been surpassed on his own team), Xavier Brown of Wooster (who again has probably been surpassed by one of his teammates, Dan Fanelly), Joey Flannery of Babson (both he and his team are doing very well, but he is only a sophomore, and no Duncan Robinson), and perhaps Q's leading competition now (IF Cabrini's so-so season works against Walton-Moss), Gerry Wixted of Dickinson (both he and his team are doing extremely well, and he is a senior which is usually a plus).  (Apologies to any worthy candidates I have overlooked.)

The CCIW has a number of excellent players, but I don't see any POY candidates; the same with the UAA, NESCAC, and ODAC (the other power conferences).

River Falls has shown they can play with both Point and Whitewater, and they won at Platteville. If Pelkofer doesn't play, they have a real chance, IMO.

Pelkofer played and Point win 64-40. SP's third straight W holding opponents in the 40's.

Platteville squeaked by Oshkosh 49-46
LaX beat Stout 64-62
EC beat Super 80-69

Q Young drive the length of the floor in .2 seconds and threw down a wicked dunk as Whitewater took down the bye.

Prior to thowing down that nasty dunk, Q somehow had time to stop and pump up his Reebok shoes like Dee Brown did in the slam dunk competition.

Pointers won the game last night but Jordan Lutz went down with a left knee injury late in the first half.  It did not look good.  If anyone's hears what the extent of the injury is, please post.

RF over Osh. 57-53.

Two evenly matched, poor free throw shooting teams battled each other hard. Olson only player in double figures for Titans w/15. Christensen, Erickson, Lewis led RF w/ 14, 11, 11.  Lewis, freshman guard, was 4/4, 3/3 on threes. Osh. w/8 for 19, RF w/ 11for 21 free throws played big part in the decision. Ten t.o.'s per team meant smooth play. Important win for RF may have meant home court for a tourney game.

EauClaire: 62
WARHAWKS: 77

Behind strong play from the front court the WARHAWKS turned a close game into an easy win with a 34-17 run over the game's final fifteen minutes.  The BluGolds opened the scoring with a three point basket but the WARHAWKS tied it on Steve Egan's three point play.  After another tie the WARHAWKS built a six point lead only to have the BluGolds tie again with a pair of three pointers.  Egan's layup regained the lead for the WARHAWKS but EauClaire answered with their third consecutive three pointer taking their last lead of the half 14-13 at the fourteen minute mark.  Egan's jumper put the WARHAWKS back on top and the lead gradually increased to a high of eleven points, 30-19, when Xzavier Moananu dunked off a fast break with six minutes remaining.  EauClaire was able to reduce their deficit to six points 34-28 at the intermission.  The WARHAWKS only shot 36% from the floor but outscored the BluGolds 20-10 in the paint, 10-3 off of turnovers and 8-2 off of turnovers.  Egan's 9 points led the way while Moananu added 8 and Ron Patten 7 with 5 rebounds.  Tyson Kailen led the BluGolds and all scorers with 13 points including 3 of 3 from beyond the arc.  The WARHAWKS maintained a single digit lead for the first six minutes of the second half but Kailen stayed hot from beyond the arc and after he hit one on three consecutive possessions the BluGolds were back on top 45-44.  Quardell Young's layup regained the lead and the WARHAWKS held it for the remainder of the contest.

Steve Egan: 19 points, 7 rebounds
Ron Patten: 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals
Quardell Young: 14 points, 5 assists, 2 steals
Cody Odegaard: 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
KJ Evans: 8 points, 9 rebounds
Team: 18-21 free thows, 40 rebounds (16 offensive)

BluGolds:
Kalien: 28 points (6-10 three pointers), 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
George Diekelman: 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals

LaCrosse: 70  Superior: 62 -  The Eagles shoot 54% from the floor and connect on 8 three pointers to open a seventeen point lead 43-26 when the first half ends.  But the Yellow Jackets buzz their way back and take a one point lead with six minutes to play before the Eagles recover, rebuild the lead to eleven and pull out the W.  Cameron leads the Eagles with 27, Coenen adds 10.  Ty Ketz's 16 points leads five Yellow Jackets with double figures.

River Falls: 57  Oshkosh: 53 - The two teams tie five times and exchange the lead 13 times in a closely fought battle.  Trailing by a point the Falcons regain the lead on CJ Lewis's three pointer with less than two minutes to play and hold on as the Titans turn the ball over twice and miss their final three shots.  Jon Christensen leads three Falcons in double figures with 14.  Alex Olson paces the Titans with 15.

Stevens Point: 67  Platteville: 55 -  The Pioneers shoot 59% from the floor in the first half but trail by five 32-27 at the half.  There were five lead changes and a pair of ties in the half.  Pointers shoot 50% from the floor and outscore the Pioneers 15-5 off of turnovers.  The Pioneers get to within a point in the first five minutes of the second half but the Pointers prove too much and lead by double figures for the final seven minutes of the game.  Joe Ritchay's double/double 18 points, 10 rebounds paces the Pointers.   Jake Manning score 20 to lead Platteville.

Has anyone heard the injury Lutz sustained and how long he'll be out??

So I'm sitting in the front row of the bleachers Saturday at the UW-Eau Claire at UW-Whitewater basketball game feeling pretty weak after spending the previous day in the hospital. During a second half time out I leaned over with my elbows on my knees. Oops... I fell face forward onto the gym floor.  In a split second, a team manager was picking me up. As he did, I noticed a UWW TV camera, about 10 feet from me, catching all the action on live TV.  My right arm is still sore. Yes - I'm extremely embarrassed!!
