I understand why Stout and their supporters may feel that it's time for a coaching change but, personally, I would hate to see Eddie leave.  Having worked the scorer's table in WHITEWATER I've come to really like him.  He's been the most friendly opposing coach and he treats us with respect and courtesy.  Admittedly I don't know him outside of our gym but within in he has my respect.  I don't mean to imply that the other coaches treat us badly, they don't, it's just in my experience he's gone out of his way to be friendly.

Sounds like a good one. I was wrapped up in the Stout vs. River game and I have one observation: the smart money is on Coach Andrist leaving at the end of the season (or before.) If he or the administration haven't thought about it yet, they should start. That is the least amount of energy I have seen on the sidelines in the WIAC in, well, ever. He looks as though he's given up on those kids and the program. There's nothing going on positive in that program right now. It might just be time to step aside and let Robinson try to resurrect the program or bring in a new guy. It is really puzzling.

The Devils are likely to be winless this year. With decent young talent, they need a breath of fresh air at the top, imho. Look at Oshkosh, for example... Juckem has brought that program back from an 0-16 season a few years back to a team vying for a home playoff game. That's what the Blue Devils need.

I couldn't disagree with this sentiment more. I don't know what team you are actually watching but this injury decimated team has never given up in a single game that I have watched. They have 9 healthy players and they all have to play. There are plenty of times when they have 5 freshmen on the court, yet they have made just about every conference game a one or two possession contest. Their Achilles heal has been the free throw shooting, never their effort.

This group in a year or two will benefit from this short handed year. To say the "smart money" is on Coach Andrist leaving at the end of the season is just plain ridiculous.

No kj Evans tonight

From what was said during the broadcast, he is at his sisters' wedding.

It will be interesting to see how Whitewater and Point start and finish their games this weekend. Whitewater will again be missing Evans

That is one heckuva long wedding reception. ;)

   Platte      @   RF
   EC      @   Osh

As things stand right this second, here are the seedings for the conference tournament:

#1. UWSP (13-1)
#2. UWW (12-1)
#3. UWRF (8-5)
#4. UWPlatte (8-6)
#5. UWOsh (6-7)
#6. UWLaX (6-8)

#7. UWLaX (5-8)
#8. UWSup (2-11)
#9. UWStout (0-13

UWSP and UWW have locked up the WIAC tournament bye and home court for round 2. We just don't know which is which yet.

UWW's remaining schedule:

2/14 Vs. River Falls (#3 WIAC 8-5; Last time: WW 67 RF 63)
2/18 Vs. Oshkosh (#5 WIAC 6-7; Last time: WW 78 Osh 59
2/21 @ Stout (#9 WIAC 0-13; Last time: WW 96 Stout 67)

UWSP remaining schedule:

2/14 Vs. Stout (#9 WIAC 0-13; Last Time Point 73 Stout 56)
2/18 Bye
2/21 @ Superior (#8 WIAC 2-11; Last Time Point 77 Superior 54)

Whitewater has a decidedly tougher go at it than Point. In addition to playing another game, they have to play River Falls, who gave them a good game last time out, though the game was on the shores of the mighty Mississip cagey St. Croix. And, as Tom stated, Evans will still be out on Saturday.

More later, perhaps... haven't even gotten to the interesting stuff.

We can agree that they haven't given up in games, that's for sure. They have plenty of fight in them. But not so sure their coach does!

Perhaps you're correct, the smart money isn't on Fast Eddie leaving. But that's a wagering term, and a bet is NEVER a lock, and I'd take that bet all day, every day.

I'm sorry that this has upset a couple of you. I'll do my best to keep these types of personal observations to myself in the future. I'd imagine that would be best!

Have a good weekend, all.

Disagreeing is one thing, it seems I've offended some. I'll attempt to keep it less controversial. But thanks!

I aso don't think that you have offended anyone with an opinion.  Thats what a message board is about.  I am hardly an expert on  this year's team as I have chosen to spend most of the season in Florida, but I will weigh in on Eddie's time here anyway.  I was on the committee that hired him, have been with the team most of his tenure as a broadcaster for most of his games, and consider him a very good friend.  Nobody wants to win any worse than Ed Andrist.  Nobody prepares any better, recruits any harder, or loves his players any more than Ed does.  The whole "Fast Eddie" nickname is misguided.  His time here should be appreciated for what it has been.  A guy doing his job and doing it well with one goal in mind. To win games, gain respect for his University, and continue to do what he does best and that is coach, respect, and help young men grow as players and men.  I have tremendous respect for all the coaches I have watched in this conference, both men and women.

chmarx

I think dumping Andrist would be a mistake.  When we hosted Stout, I was impressed that they never gave up.  It looks like they have played hard all year, even as the losses mounted.  With a VERY young team, the return to respectability could be swift.

Hang in there Blue Devil fans.

Big changes are still possible 3-6, not saying it will happen but if Eau Claire wins out, they can move as high as the fourth seed.
Hopefully it will be a little clearer tonight.

You speak of Eau Claire yet you don't even have them listed in the standings.  You think so highly of La Crosse, you have them listed twice!  (I know it's a mistake :-) ) Anyway, with the Blugolds schedule, they very well could go winless!

Regardless of effort, and I'm not arguing that, the bolded part of this statement is inaccurate. They've lost by 25, 17, 19, 3, 29, 6, 7, 10, 1, 5, 22, 2 and 4.

When I said earlier in the year that they may go winless, I was criticizing their lack of effort at all. I just don't think they were talented enough. Injuries have really hurt them this year, but sometimes you just have to admit you don't have the talent to win on a regular basis.

I am hardly an expert on  this year's team teams in the conference as I have chosen to spend most of the season in Florida Sheboygan, so I haven't seen in person the mannerisms of the players or coaches. But, a lot of the times you can "just tell". Obviously, morale can be low going through a long, rough season like this. So yeah, I think it would be natural if there was in instance here and there when a player or two, or possibly the coach would mail it in during a game.

Take Oshkosh's lead. They were pretty bad a few years ago, but I think they knew that and worked through the rough times. This year, they've made drastic improvements and have some good results.

There's a possibility that I may make my first appearance at a WIAC game this year, so if anyone will be at Quandt, flag me down. I will most likely be wearing an oversized brown down-filled jacket, sitting behind the north basket (by the Pointer basket) with Swampgoon and his wife.

If I was Eddie Andrist, I'd be less offended by the nickname that had been hung around my neck during my Mount Senario days than by the fact that my official UW-Stout coaching bio declares that I am multiple females rather than an individual male:

QuoteEddie Andrist is a Stout alumnae, enrolling as a student in 1972.
