OK Tom. I'll change my statement to "more than half." Jeezus.

Take it easy, BDB. There's a big difference between "just about every game" and half (7 of 13).

Dude, isn't any jacket that you wear "oversized"? ;)

OK, Tom, I gotta ask: Does she let you call her "Mrs. Swampgoon"?

Yeah, I suppose you're right on the jacket thing. I guess I always thought I would "grow into" my clothes. That doesn't seem to be the case, even at my age. In fact, I should probably start buying smaller clothes than usual since I've heard older people shrink. And yeah, I guess I could call her Mrs. Swampgoon if I want.  ;D :P

Real nice. I'm glad the world has nit pickers to call out any errors we may have without checking the stat sheet first.

Greek Tragedy

Let it go BDB. I didn't have to look at the stat sheet to remember they've gotten beaten handedly on more than a few occasions. To their credit, they've nearly pulled off a few upsets.

KJ Evans arrived minutes before the game and got dressed. It will be interesting to see if he plays today.

Disagreeing is one thing, it seems I've offended some. I'll attempt to keep it less controversial. But thanks!
Nobody wants to win any worse than Ed Andrist.  Nobody prepares any better, recruits any harder, or loves his players any more than Ed does.  The whole "Fast Eddie" nickname is misguided.

As someone who had my players recruited by the likes of Eau Claire, Suoerior, La Crosse, and River Falls, as well as all of the MIAC schools NOT TO MENTION having several of said players attend and play at those schools, I can tell you much of that statement is inaccurate.

I've sat with Ken Koelbl and a player and his family and watched him attend 8 games! He was at our practices and home visits and school visits and even a track meet. Matt Siverling called ME regularly to guage his interest and learn more about him. Suoerior coaching staff sent him dozens of handwritten letters, were at several games, and called him every two days. Jeff Berkoff and his staff texted daily. The stout staff watched him twice. Andrist NEVER talked to him personally. Now, maybe he wasn't a priority, but he should've been. And that's just ONE!

Another player from our conference and his stout buddy chatted with myself and his former head coach this summer. Doesn't seem remotely like he has a love of more than a player or two in mind. Heard three stories that were pretty appalling before I excused myself.

Finally, another of his former players is now in my wife's company. Just sitting at a recent company party we started talkin hoops. His experience playing for that coach was not a positive one.

Perhaps most tellig is his track record of guys sticking around. Aside from last year where there were 5 guys that were in it for four years, his team's are always young, and/or his players are imports and transfers from all holy hell. What former player has slid onto his bench as a grad assistant? You see that everywhere else, just not there. And his assistants leave not for better coaching jobs elsewhere, but for high school jobs. Either they aren't good enough or they are looking for ANY out. Not good in either case.

Now, it is obvious we both have our biases. Mine because I hear nothing good about him in the coaching circles I am a part of, and you because he's your friend. I'd say, as so often is the case, the truth lies somewhere in the middle of our opinion.

I've laid into him pretty good here, and I apologize. I just didn't hink that characterization was anywhere near accurate from MY experience. I won't say anymore about the subject and I respect your opinion and relationship with him.

(One last tidbit... I actually WANT the Blue Devils To succeed. I don't have any reason other than proximity wise, it is now the team I follow most closely. I've got a couple players still left in the league, but that won't be much longer now.)

One thing for sure.  We both do have our biases.  Mine is that Ed is, and has been, a friend and has been good for Stout basketball for many years.  Yours is, well I'm not quite sure but it sounds like an ax to grind.  One of your stars didn't get recruited hard enough.  Hell, Ed didn't even come to the track meet!  But, alas, Ed is down now so if it makes you, Mr. high school bb coach with all of those great connections of yours feel better, feel free to kick away.

FYI - Regionally rankings will come out on Thursday next week due to the planned stat computer outage (upgrade) at the NCAA headquarters this weekend. Thus all committee calls pushed back a day and as a result rankings will be posted Thursday this week. Game info still through Sunday's games.

Oh, I want to be perfectly clear - something that I often struggle with on attempt one - I get no joy out of Coach Andrist being down. And this has absolutely nothing to do with me. Just an observation. It is clear you are a loyal friend. A very admirable quality.

I had no intention of kicking him while he was down, just initially providing an observation that he looked "checked out" at the last game. Then I thought to be fair to the program (not my friend) that I would challenge the notion that he works harder, is more well prepared, or cares
For his guys more than the other fine coaches in this conference. To provide context, I felt compelled to challenge those sentiments. If he truely was a more tireless recruiter, more well prepared, and loved his guys more, one would think he would have had better results. I mean, there are a couple of really great coaches in this league. I wonder why there successful if they don't recruit as hard, aren't as well prepared, or as concerned about their players as Fast Eddie?

I didn't get to watch the game tonight. It sounds as though Point just shot the lights out. They are a very talented team. I wonder why all of those shooters always wind up there? Hmmmm...

Yes, I guess you are right, Hoops and Golf.  Your guys at EC, RF, LX, and Superior are stealing Semlings good shooters in this recruiting process all the time!

River Falls: 66
WARHAWKS: 85

With Ron Patten scoring eight of the team's first ten points the WARHAWKS got out of the gate quickly and built a lead reaching a high of ten points in the game's first twelve and half minutes.  But lapses in focus and execution coupled the Falcons hitting a couple of three pointers and solid free throw shooting got the Falcons their first lead 23-22 with seven minutes to play.  After the two teams traded baskets the WARHAWKS went back on top  and held the lead for the next three minutes.  Jon Christensen's layup with a minute remaining regained the lead for the Falcons and the half finished 35-32 River Falls after the WARHAWKS missed a pair of shots and committed a turnover.  Steve Egan and Patten each had 10 points and Egan pulled down 6 rebounds leading the WARHAWKS.  While Christensen's 15 points and 5 rebounds paced the Falcons.  If the WARHAWKS started the game hot they started the second half on fire.  Making a 23-0 run to open the half all but ended the game in the half's first five minutes.  The WARHAWKS lead reached a high of twenty-six points on a couple of occassions and the Falcons got no closer than fifteen in the game's remaining time.  The WARHAWKS shot 60% from the floor including 58% from beyond the arc in the second half.

Cody Odegaard: 19 points (4-7 three points)
Steve Egan: 16 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals
Quardell Young: 15 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 block, 3 steals
Ron Patten: 14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal
Rajon Muhammad: 10 points, 2 assists, 1 steal
Team: 12 steals from 9 different players

Falcons:
Jon Christensen: 21 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists
Garret Pearson: 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists

The rest of the league:

Oshkosh: 70  Superior: 58 -  The Titans outshot Superior 59% to 31% and jumped out to a first half lead of seventeen points 40-23.  The Titans outscored the Yellow Jackets 22-2 in the paint.  The Titan's lead grew to twenty two in the second half before the Yellow Jackets cut it to low of ten points with a minute and half remaining.  Alex Olson's 20 points and 6 rebounds led the Titans.  Zach Schradle (17) and Caleb Burch (11) each pulled down 8 rebounds to lead Superior.

Eau Claire: 69  LaCrosse: 52 =  After a close first half which finished 30-28 in favor of the BluGolds the Eagles never led but stayed within single digits for the first sixteen minutes of the second half before the BluGolds put the game away by going 10 of 10 from the free throw line in the games final three minutes.  Jacob Kohner (21), George Diekelman (14) and Lewis Mau (10) scored in double figures for the BluGolds.  Mau and Diekelman each pulled down 9 rebounds as the BluGolds won the battle on the boards 38-24.  Johnny Coenen's 13 points and 5 rebounds were Eagles' team highs.

Stevens Point: 85  Stout: 44 -  The Pointers shot 70% from the floor including 8 of 14 from beyond the arc and put this game away early with a 47-23 bulge in the first half.  The Pointers ended the game 64% from the floor while holding the Blue Devils to 33% and out rebounded the Blue Devils 33-18.  Of course when a team only misses 19 shots in the game there aren't too many rebounds available.  Six Pointers (Pelkofer: 15, Lutz: 14, Ritchay: 11, Ryf: 11, Richard: 10 and McGann: 10) scored in double digits and Ryf added  game highs 9 rebounds and 7 assists.  Jarvis Ragland  had 13 to lead the Blue Devils.

While I take no offense from your posts, I do see contradiction in some of the things you say. If you honestly don't want to rip on a coach who's team is having a down year, then why do you refer to Coach Andrist as "Fast Eddie?"  That seems rude and disrespectful.

And as far as looking like he was "checked out" at a recent game, I have been watching Coach Andrist during games since he came to Stout and I have attended every home game this year. I haven't seen any change in his coaching intensity or style this year from the past.

I'm sure having a 3 win season and not winning a conference game yet is bothering the heck out of him. But to me, he is as involved in every game as much as he was 2 years ago when they were 11-5 in the conference and 20-7 overall.
