So, aside from cheering on the Pointers, Point fans will be cheering for a St. Thomas loss this weekend. The NCAA isn't going to fly 3 teams to Georgia for an Emory sectional. I'm guessing St. Thomas is the #1 seed, then Emory and then Point.

Bloomington is a nice central location - we'll take 'em at the Shirk! ;D

Doing some homework for my tourney fantasy league...

Man, I thought Stevens Point lacked depth. A team I was looking at has all 5 starters averaging over 30 minutes a game...38.4, 37.6, 36.4, 35.0 and 30.7. Wow.  :D

Honestly, it doesn't matter who the #1 seed really is... it's all about geography anyway. Wasn't that long ago St. Mary's and Middlebury were both the #1 regionally ranked teams in the same sectional which went to Rochester due to the fact SMC and Rochester were more than 500 miles from each other. In other words, you can be the #1 "seed" but who hosts in the sectionals sometimes has nothing to do with that at all.

Well, it does matter if the geography doesn't matter. If all four teams are driveable then it's all about seeding.

In my example, I would think it does matter. 3 flights to Emory, 3 flights to Whitworth. So, it would be down to Point, St. Thomas/St. Norbert. The Tommies would probably host because they are a higher seed. Emory and Whitworth could fly to any of Point, St. Thomas and St. Norbert. That was my point.

Understood... I was basically indicating that whoever is the higher ranked team, even if they aren't #1, of those who can bus to each other... they host. So they don't even have to be the #1 team.

If you lose to Dubuque could your venue host?  I recall a few years back none of the qualifying WIAC teams could host due to a facility conflict with a Presidential visit and Junior Olympics or something like All star Wrestling and so the event went to someone in the CCIW with a small gym--think it was Elmhurst.  Anyone recall that?

St. Mary's? The last time they won a MIAC title, according to the website, was in 1939-40....

Oh, wait, there's more than one St. Mary's. I'll be quiet and go home now.

I don't know if there is an actual rule that a non-participant can't host, but I don't think it has ever happened.  IWU WILL NOT lose to Dubuque (he says, hopefully)!  UWSP in SP will be a tougher hill to climb - I was just trash-talkin' Greek.
