So, aside from cheering on the Pointers, Point fans will be cheering for a St. Thomas loss this weekend. The NCAA isn't going to fly 3 teams to Georgia for an Emory sectional. I'm guessing St. Thomas is the #1 seed, then Emory and then Point.

Bloomington is a nice central location - we'll take 'em at the Shirk! ;D

Can you host if you lose game 1?

And that is relevant to the Titans how? ;D

If you lose to Dubuque could your venue host?  I recall a few years back none of the qualifying WIAC teams could host due to a facility conflict with a Presidential visit and Junior Olympics or something like All star Wrestling and so the event went to someone in the CCIW with a small gym--think it was Elmhurst.  Anyone recall that?

Elmhurst hosted in 2008-09, the bracket of death, where Point lost at UST, UWW lost @ Wash U (@ Elmhurst) and UWP lost @ Wheaton all in the second round. Though each of the WIAC teams were in the top 10, they were playing higher ranked teams and UWP/UWW would have met in the Sweet 16, with Point waiting in the Elite 8 if all had won.

Wash U survived the bracket of death and won their second national title.

The infamous 2009 "bracket of death" sectional was held at Wheaton's King Arena. The pods that fed into it were held at Elmhurst's Faganel Hall, St. Thomas's Schoenecker Arena, Puget Sound's Memorial Fieldhouse, and Wheaton's King Arena.

Yep, I took in the UWP/Wheaton game in round 2. Best game that Jeff Skemp ever had (not that I saw them all by any stretch) and it was his last, scoring 38 points in a losing effort.

WashU won by two over Lawrence (@Elmhurst)
WashU won by three over UWW (who won in OT over Elmhurst)

WashU then won by 3 @ Wheaton
WashU won by 5 over St. Thomas

It must have been a relief when they got to Salem!

WashU by NINETEEN over Guilford
WashU by NINE over Richard Stockton

Both the regional and the sectional may have been tougher than the FF.

Except for the two missed free throws at the end of the game which could have beaten Wash U.  That was one of the best teams we've ever put on the floor and I really thought we had a chance at a national championship that year.  But at least we lost to the eventual national champions.   I don't know that I've ever been as bummed out after a game as I was after that one.

For the UWSP pod tonight, some data:

Team      Off Eff      Def Eff      Poss/gm      PPG      Def PPG
   UWSP      114.6      96.5      115.0      65.8      55.6

For the first 13 minutes of the first half, the Defiance coach has been far more animated toward officials than Coach Miller...Huh.

..and now with 9:17 left, Defiance is getting all the calls in their favor, including that last time out call when the guy was laying on the boundary with the ball in his arms.  bleed, what is it with this play by play announcer? Is  he secretly a Defiance student or what, he needs to calm down when Defiance throws up one of those 33 footers.

Quite the stunner from Whitewater...very tough way to see the season come to an end...Warhawks got totally blasted in the second half by Defiance by 20 points and giving up 55 total in the 2nd half. Those Defiance shooters looked like Mickey Crowe (any shot within 4 steps of half court was fair game) with those long range bombs in the last 20 minutes. Congrats to the purple and black Yellow Jackets.

Very disappointing ending to the season for the Hawks. Congratulations to Defiance. They brought it hard tonight. Lots of things added up to make this happen, but I'll let the guys who know more about hoops than me break it down.  Thank you Warhawks for a great year and thank you seniors for all you have done. It has been a blast to watch you play.  It's really too bad because this is really a talented group.  But hats off to Defiance. Good luck the rest of the tournament.

Sucks to be whitewater but it happens point arguably should've lost last year to Marian first round.

Yes, it sucks they'll be no three-peat repeat, but Whitewater will be back.
