Has anyone ever done what the Warhawks' Quardell Young did this season?-- POY, First Team All WIAC, All Defense Team, All Sportsmanship Team. Perhaps someone has mentioned it already, but that's a remarkable achievement, one that's rarely, if ever, accomplished. Congratultions to him.
Shorter answer: No
Short answer: I think the defensive teams are relatively new? dating back to the 2012-13 season, while the Sportsmanship teams date back to the 2008-09 season. *
*As per the WIAC site, listing the all-conference teams...

The thing about Quardell is that he's not only outstanding on the basketball floor he's outstanding off of it as well.  He is exactly the type of person you would want representing you.

Is it bad that I'm ecstatic his eligibility is done with UWW??  I've only seen his exploits on the basketball floor and he certainly had the ability to be going to school for free.

Just curious - who did Q turn down and instead decide to attend UWW?

Any firsthand accounts want to chime in? I watched it online. Point's defense has been dominating and the offense has been spectacular. A different guy steps up each night and they're sharing the ball, taking care of it and shooting tremendously well.

I've been a but disappointed by the crowd. I'd say it looks average, at best... Not the kind of crowd I'd expect for a deep NCAA run. Likely that SPASH is drawing people away? But the last SPASH game was Thursday... Curious.

The SPASH game today was moved to earlier in the day to potentially accommodate fans who want to see both. Let's hope they get to see a Panther and a Pointer victory!

I don't know how it looked on the live feed, but many of us at the game last night thought it was possibly one of the finest all around games we've seen Point play in a long time.  Stifling defense, which seems to have become normal, and always looking for the open shot which often times results in the shot clock winding down.  This was Pointer style basketball at it's best, with the only downside being a few missed free throws.  The nice thing about this group is the unselfishness on distributing the ball and the potential that any of the top 6 guys can score from any range.   I'll admit that looking at this team on paper at the beginning  of the season I would not have predicted hosting the first 2 weekends of the tournament, but I think a lot of us Pointer fans feel that there is something special about this team.  I've only missed 2 or 3 games since 2003 and feel this team has progressed as much or more since the start of the season as any Pointer team during that time.  Just my 2 cents.

As for the crowds, last Saturdays seemed to be less than a Wednesday WIAC game, where last Friday's seemed much bigger.  But last nights game vs. Emory drew a good crowd, almost filling the balcony, each end zone, and almost both sides of the court.  Not sellouts like in the mid 2000 championship years, but not many empty seats, either.  Also, Channel 7 in Wausau did broadcast last nights game live, and will do so again tonight.  Not sure it really affects walk up sales or not.

SPASH plays at 4 PM in Wausau, so making both games should not be an issue for those wanting to attend both.  Hoping for another big crowd tonight.

Scott Anderson of SPASH and Pat Miller must have gone to the same school or constant whining and referee abuse.  Talented teams,  but not likable when you watch the bench antics of either team.

I hope SPASH wins the state title and Coach Anderson develops a sportsmanlike manner in 2015/2016.

I agree with what you've said about this team. I wholeheartedly agree. I think Coach Semling and Coach Bennett do too (from Sem's comments in pre- and post-game, and Coach Bennett's comments during the broadcast last night).

I was concerned about UWSP's perceived lack of depth, but the additional media timeouts have really helped. SP is doing their typical "first guy with a foul comes out" like they've done recently, but there hasn't been a drop off.

These crowds aren't bad as typical D-III crowds go, but Stevens Point can do much, much better. If there truly was 1800 there last night, Quandt can take roughly another 900 before it's a sell out.

Look at the crowds on these videos I just found:

Platteville @ UWSP - Platteville won the D-III title the previous year, their first, and would make it back to Salem (3rd). Point lost in the second round of the NAIA tournament.

I also know that in '82, UWSP led the nation in 1982, Point led the nation in attendance (2929 per game), as they did in 1985 (2313).

I know Quandt's capacity used to be larger, and it's better now that it's in color too... but...

UWEC @ UWSP used to have 4000+ people.

Maybe these were the glory days. Things have certainly changed. But in big games, these players really deserve to have the support!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the Pointers probably didn't believe shooting 38% from the field and 25% from the arc and being held to <50 pts was the recipe for getting to Salem.  But a W is a W and Final Four berth is a Final Four berth.  Congratulations UWSP!

Congrats to the Pointers... Follow the yellow-and-purple brick road to Salem...

John Gleich - who was that #30 in the old-school b&w photo?  ;)  Those Point/EC matchups were some fun days at Zorn Arena, too...

Has to be the best coaching job in d3 sports history.  There's no one who can honestly say they thought this team would make the final 4 before the season started.  Nice to see a team work that hard defensively and play team basketball.  My guess is it doesn't hurt having bailey and gollon working with u on a daily basis too.
