And the 3 incoming recruits like associate head coach Brian Barone and said they would probably honor their commitments if Barone is hired.

Dick and Tony Bennett endorse Grzesk, who missed out on the job to Wardle 5 years ago.

This article mentions a lot of D1 assistants as candidates.
TJ Otzelberger has just accepted a job back at Iowa State and has withdrawn his name from consideration for the UWGB job.

Nice article on Grzesk and, to a lesser extent, Miller and Semling.  Grzesk is only 41 While Miller (47) and Semling (57) are older.

In regards to the article, I might lean towards Miller as he has had the national success that Grzesk lacks. Yes, Miller doesn't have that GB connection,  but that isn't always necessary.  The article is right about Semling's age working against him, which is good news for Pointer fans.

Here is a question, when it is time for Semling to retire, leave...whatever it may be...who gets the job??  Does Dernbach get the reigns??  Does Bennett continue the family legacy of coaching at Point??  Does the legend, Kalsow, throw his hat in the ring??

Greek Tragedy

That's obviously tough to say. Hopefully Semling retires as a Pointer...5 or more years from now!

If Semling retired tomorrow and Grzesk didn't get the UWGB job, I would go after Grzesk.  Some might think that's a lateral move and I'm not so sure St. Norbert doesn't already pay better, but jumping from a Top 15 conference to a Top 5 is a step up. He obviously felt going from the old LMC and Lakeland to the MWC and St. Norbert was a step up, which of course it is.

I am kind of surprised Bennett is back at Point as an assistant.  He's had significant assistant coaching experience including two low level D1 stops.  I am not sure he waits 5 years at his current position before moving on but he certainly has credentials to take the UWSP job.

What about someone like Combs ... bet he'd love the UWSP job!

Wow. News to me, but most is. I'm hardly in the loop! So, he spends 2 years at Whitewater to come back to Point? Did an assistant leave Point at the end of this season?

Nick is at Whitewater, not Stevens Point, and every indication points the the fact that he's very happy there (no pun intended).

I'm not sure that Nick really WANTS to be in Stevens Point. Remember, it's where his dad and uncle are legends, his brother played at UWSP, he went to high school AND college there, and besides, he's been a part of some of Whitewater's greatest successes as a program.

Concerning Jason Kalsow... his wife is a sideline reporter for the Cleveland Cavaliers for Fox Sports Ohio. I don't know what her career aspirations are, but they may factor in to any potential coaching moves for him... and the Stevens Point market simply may not be large enough for those types of jobs to exist. Doesn't seem like it at least.

I thought I read here that Gollon is leaving after this current season, but I'm not sure of that 100%.

Not to rain on the Phoenix's parade... but...

Geno Auriemma came out earlier this week with some rather... unflattering words to say about men's basketball.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaabk/geno-auriemma-mens-basketball-game-is-a-joke/ar-AAajT9a?ocid=ansFOXsports11

Interestingly, I just read this piece about Wisconsin:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25133355/how-can-wisconsin-beat-uk-with-its-offense-the-best-in-modern-history

Even though it may not SEEM like Wisconsin has an incredibly potent offense, they due, in part due to their pace.

UWSP was the same way this past season. Despite a few jabs during the NCAA tournament:

https://twitter.com/FFTMAG/status/576924532159696896

SP had an incredibly potent offense.... it just played at a much more deliberate pace than EVERY other team in the country. They averaged fewer than 57 offensive possessions per game. Only one other team was under 60.

https://twitter.com/FFTMAG/status/576925897036541952

(Thanks to my research assistant Matt Snyder, aka KnightSlappy)

So, what do you think? Is mens basketball broken?

Similarly... what do you think would/will happen if the men's shot clock drops from 35 to 30? UWSP will have to "pick up the pace" a bit... but on the flip side, they will have to defend for just 86% of the time to get a shot clock violation. I think scoring might actually go DOWN in the case of some of the best defensive teams. Thoughts?

It would take more than the UW-GB job to get Coach Miller to leave UW-W, IMO. Unless, of course, they want to step up and offer 600K. That is the going rate for a UW-W coach to go D-I.  ;)

In all seriousness, he would be a great hire for the Phoenix. They aren't going to get him, though.

I honestly have no idea what Geno is talking about. I would watch a regular season college hoops game 50 times out of 50 over a regular season NBA game. I think he was really crabby the day he said this or something...

Greek Tragedy

In shocking news the D3 Championship BeltTM was recently highjacked on the way to Stevens Point. Security forces targeted the man below, a Canadian extremist, with stealing The BeltTM.

After a heated argument with my wife, it was decided that a one-on-one fight would determine the rightful owner of said BeltTM

King Midget took the responsibility of taking on the Canadian extremist

After a long, hard-fought battle, the good guys reclaimed what was rightfully theirs.

The BeltTM security forces, with the help from my wife, King Midget, Fabio, Little Joe, Little Steve-O and The Little Show, returned The BeltTM back to the campus of UWSP.

Luckily, the Championship trophy, itself, was not harmed.

So, can you dispatch your security forces to Indiana ASAP, so Bucky can bring a championship belt back to the America's Dairyland, too?

ON WISCONSIN, AND GO BADGERS!
