I did a quick look at the WARHAWKS scoring last year compared to this year and it is up 4-5 points.  However that was an apple to oranges comparison so I didn't bother posting it and decided to just keep an eye on it as the season progresses.  I would expect scoring to slow somewhat once we are into the conference season.

The La Crosse Tribune printed on Sunday the AP article which realist referenced. While I prefer the 35 second clock, I do favor efforts to curtail the physicality of the game, as long as defense is not made illegal.

Read an article in the St. P. Pioneer Press saying scoring over the nation was up so far this year 3-4 ppg.

From Colorado Springs and Colorado College:

WARHAWKS (7-2): 108
Concordia - Texas (5-2): 90

The WARHAWKS took a 9-7 lead a little less than four and half minutes into the game and held it the rest of the way.  The lead reached sixteen points, 41-25 before Concordia - Texas closed the half on a 15-5 run cutting their deficit to six 46-40.  The WARHAWKS opened the second half with the first five points but Concordia - Texas hung around and eventually trailed by only three, 56-53 five minutes into the half.  However the WARHAWKS responded and by the thirteen minute mark led by double figures 70-59.  That's as close as it would be after that.

The WARHAWKS offense shot 57% from the floor and surpassed the 100 point mark for the second consecutive outing.
Trinson White: 22 points, 9 rebounds
Haki Stampley: 19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals
Cole VanSchyndel: 17 points
Tyler Edmundson / Drew Bryson: 11 points
Michael Pfieffer: 10 points
Andre Brown: 10 assists

Stampley became eligible at the semester break.  The dude can play.  He's going to be a nice addition.

This was the first of three games the WARHAWKS will play in the next four days.  Tomorrow's game is against Farleigh Dickenson - Florham.

Farleigh Dickenson - Florham (3-8): 71
WARHAWKS (8-2): 84

The WARHAWKS started slow and FD-F hit their first two three pointers taking a 8-7 lead early in the game.  They gradually built the lead to eleven points twice including 34-23 with six minutes remaining in the half.  However the WARHAWKS closed the half with a 16-3 run and when Jerry Ngobi completed a three point play with less than one second left regained the lead 39-38.  Cole VanSchyndel's 12 points were supported by 10 from Haki Stampley and 7 by Ngobi.  FD-F jot 6 three pointers.  Drew Bryson's three pointer opened the second half and the WARHAWKS lead remained in single digits.  FD-F gradually gained ground and tied the game 51-51 at the fifteen minute mark but the ]WARHAWKS responded with a three pointer to regain the lead.  FD-F would keep it close for the next few minutes but the lead gradually reached double figures66-55 with nine minutes remaining and reached a high of fifteen points 79-64 before the game concluded.

VanSchyndel: 23 points, 6 rebounds
Stampley: 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals
Bryson: 15 points, 5 rebounds
Ngobi: 13 points, 4 assists
Trinson White: 10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks

The final of the three games will be Wednesday afternoon, 2pm CST vs Colorado College.

Cole Van Schyndel has been a pleasant surprise for Miller.

Check your PMs.

VanSchyndel played both football and basketball as a freshman before deciding to focus on basketball last year.  He's worked really hard on his game and his conditioning (dropped 40-45 pounds).  He's got his limitations but he's tough to defend in the low post and he's actually a pretty decent three point shooter.  Last night when the score was tied 51-51 he drilled one to reestablish a lead we never surrendered.  He's always been one of my favorite players just because he's a great kid.  After watching some early practices I thought he'd be on the floor longer and make a contribution.  But, honestly, I never expected it to be what it has been to date.  Whether he can keep it up or not remains to be seen but if he does it's really, really going to help us.  I was high on Edmundson earlier (and still am) but it appears he's not quite ready.

He is a great kid.  My son played some AAU with him, he is a nice guy who worked his *** off working out and on the court.   :)

Falcons lose to Alma 83-66. Alma shot 57% (they average 50%), Falcons shot 38% RF without Pearson's 16 ppg. Don't know why. Erickson finally back, but played sparingly. Christensen got 21, Moldenhauer 13.

RF plays winner of St. Norbert/Anderson tomorrow.

Oshkosh played #1 Augustana to the buzzer tonight at Just a Game in Wisconsin Dells. Lost on a fall away with 2.6 sec left, 67-65.  Video was marginal but it appeared Oshkosh played 10 players plus, including what appeared to be increased time for frosh Brett Wittchow.   Oshkosh has lots of spunk.

I need some help interpreting the UWP (6-4) score over McMurry (1-10), a 69-63 win on a neutral court. (I doubt that any McMurry player has ever played at Schreiner.)

Thanks

I'm really not sure how good Platteville really is. From boxscores and who they lost last year (16-11, 10-6), I don't think they are really that good. They do have six wins, against 4-4 Lake Forest, 1-7 Finlandia, 1-9 Luther, 5-5 Coe, 4-6 Loras and McMurry.

They have a notable 10-point loss at Hope. Sac thought Platteville was a pretty good team based on that performance. I reminded him Platteville just got smoked by 30 by NCC, but that didn't change his mind.

Did they always call the gym "JustAgame" or did they change it after having to use that phrase far too often with crazed parents?  Also, a new reality show in the Cities called "Hockey Moms" looks interesting.  The wildest character looks to be Shay Chamberlain from Menomonie who somehow got her son banned from the local association by her actions.
