Give me a chance cubs.  ;)
I was fully expecting your mid-morning post today!!!!

Old School summed it up pretty well....  In a year where Stevens Point and Whitewater are not in the running for the regular season championship, you could hear a pin drop in here.  Maybe that's the problem!!!!   ;)

Saturday
WW @ EC (last time EC wins 66-63)
ST @ PL (PL wins 66-62)
RF @ OSH (RF wins 76-75)
SP @ LX (SP wins 69-67)

4 way tie for regular season conference title?  Could happen.  What's the tie breaker then?

From the WIAC Championship page:

Quote
Seeding:
Teams will be seeded 1 through 6 based on the final regular season conference standings.  If necessary, the following tie-breaker criteria will be applied to determine entry into the tournament or to seed teams with identical records:

1.    Head-to-head competition between tied teams;
2.    Cumulative Won/Loss record vs. teams placed higher in the conference standings;
3.    Record vs. teams in conference standings in descending order (i.e., #1 seed, #2 seed).
[Note:  When comparing tied teams against positions lower in the standings which are also tied, those "lower tied positions" are considered as a "single position" for purposes of comparison.  Example:  Team A and Team B tied for second would compare against Team X and Team Y tied for sixth as follows: Team A would compare its combined record against both X and Y versus Team B's combined record against both X and Y.];

4.    Team with the best road record in conference games;
5.    Coin toss conducted by the WIAC commissioner.

[Note:  If two (2) teams remain tied after a third or other teams are eliminated, the tiebreaker reverts to criteria No. 1.  For example, if four (4) teams are tied with 4-2, 3-3, 3-3, 2-4 head -to-head records, the 4-2 receives highest seed and the 2-4 team the lowest seed in the grouping.  Since two teams remain tied at 3-3, we revert back to criteria #1 (head-to-head) between those two teams and then (if necessary) utilize the remaining criteria in order.]

Working through the possibilities (will be edited below)...

So, if LaX and RF are tied... (both win)

1. LaX (2-0 vs RF)
2. RF (0-2 vs LaX)

If LaX, RF, and Osh are tied... (both RF and LaX lose, meaning Oshkosh wins)

1. Osh is 2-0 against LaX, 1-1 vs RF
2. LaX is 2-0 against RF, 0-2 against Osh
3. RF is 0-2 against LaX, 1-1 vs Osh

If LaX, RF, EC, and Osh are tied... (both RF and LaX lose, meaning Oshkosh wins, and EC wins)

1. Osh is 2-0 against LaX, 1-1 vs RF,
2. LaX is 2-0 against RF, 0-2 against Osh, 1-1 vs EC
3. RF is 0-2 against LaX, 1-1 vs Osh

Here's the four-way tie at 9-5 (assuming the results needed to get there):

1. Record vs. the tied teams...
LC is 3-3
RF is 2-4
OSH is 4-2
EC is 3-3
So that would establish OSH as the #1 seed and RF as the #4 seed.

Then we'd revert back to the same tiebreaker to separate LC and EC
1. Record vs. the tied teams....
LC is 1-1
EC is 1-1

2. Records against teams higher in the standings...
(This tiebreaker can't be used because in the standings both teams are 9-5. There is no one higher. The fact that OSH was determined to be #1 in the first step doesn't apply. They still aren't higher in the standings.)

3. Record vs. teams in conference standings in descending order...
(We've assumed SP has won their last game and WW has lost in order to get to the 4-way tie. That makes SP the next team down the standings)
vs. SP (8-6)
LC is 0-2
EC is 1-1
Therefore EC gains the #2 seed and LC gets the #3 seed.

Final results:
#1 OSH
#2 EC
#3 LC
#4 RF

I'm pretty sure I've done it correctly, but I'll always allow that there's something I've missed.

You did the tough one... I did the easier ones  ;D

The tie-breakers are beyond me, but here are two tidbits from my perusal of the WIAC stats: Co-leaders LC and RF are the bottom two in attendance. Traditional 3 pt. bomber LC is in the lower half of the conference in 3 pt. atts.

What a finish!  I am disappointed that La Crosse only needed to win two of the last three games and has failed.  Now we could finish as low as 4th.   ???

Meaning no disrespect to Oshkosh and Eau Claire, who both outplayed us when it mattered.

With the league now down to 8 teams, is there any talk of going to just a 4-team conference tourney?

This year's tight league results would be an argument against that--while Whitewater will likely be 5 or 6, they could win it.  Of course in 3 games, Pat Miller could earn 6 technical fouls as well.  I suspect the odds for both are long.

My money is on Whitewater to win the WIAC Tournament Championship.....

Why?

No real reason.....  Just a hunch....

We're playing a little better since Pat tweaked the lineup but we still need to be more consistent to have a chance of winning the tournament.  A win today would be another positive step in that direction.

So just to review for today....for a 4-way tie at 9-5.

La Crosse loses to Point at home
Oshkosh tops River Falls at Kolf.
Eau Claire sweeps Whitewater

The only one I wouldn't put money on is La Crosse losing st home to Point.

Tom, you do realize that because of how the season has gone, you would be better off making logical predictions and then reversing them.

What a great final night....

The last time these matchups happened, the largest spread was 4 points. Should be some good games!

Hoops Junkie

My money to win the conference tourney is Lacrosse well or River Falls, well come to think of it Eau Claire has a good shot, but Point has played ok lately and then there is Oshkosh if they are making shots and well you know Whitewater has some athletes that can cause problems.

Basically this is an odds makers nightmare.  Has made the league fun and frustrating all at the same time
